i thk country is not the issue, the most important is the attenna is suitable to ur data card or not. so i thk it is no problem with sierra 875.

Maxis Broadband is not gaming-friendly at all.
At least to me LOL

I can't play Lineage 2, the patching just don't work.
I tried playing by clicking the button before the patching starts, and it lags real bad.

I am now accessing the net thru an unknown wireless network around my area, and I can even play the game without any interuption (but I don't do it too often lol ).

My Maxis totally died on me. First, they didnt send me the bill, which is okay, then they cut my line, which is still okay, I called them and they send me the bill the day after.

The post office doesnt allow me to pay half of it, so I paid for this month instead.
Made a call to MAXIS, and they told me I will get back the line after 2 hours

But it didnt work. So I made several calls to them, all they ask me is to shut down my modem, shut down my computer again and again.
It's already past a week. And it's still not working.
Will be going to KLCC to check with them along with the modem.

I think this service only suits for those who are casual users, not for hardcore users.
My housemate is sharing a line with another housemate using TMNet service, and they load things faster than I do, and they are hardcore users.

Now I just want to terminate my account hahhahaa.... I don't see a point of paying a service that doesnt work.

Funny how when everyone is complaining here and a Maxis promoter just comes in and says there's a promotion.

i just got my maxisbb yesterday...i got the Advanced 640 package...with the ZTE MF600 modem....

setup was easy and practically need to do nothing except for plugging in the power and sim card...

i noticed something very annoying which has creeped up on me by the 3rd hour of use...

i noticed everytime it disconnects or changes ip due to the changing of service HSDPA -> UMTS and back will cause the connection to fail unless i open a browser and browse to any sites... which will then automatically redirect me to the www.maxis.com.my/maxisbb

this is annoying for 2 reasons...

1) i need to access a site for my work which i think is developed in .NET, sometimes i need to spend some time on a single page for long enough for the modem to either think i am idle(changing the service back to UMTS or EDGE) or it disconnected for some reasons which i won't know... then when i click submit to save the changes i made the page redirects to www.maxis.com.my/maxisbb and all my changes are lost because my session with the site is dead and the site thinks i am another user as i gotten a different ip address and asks me to login again...which is frustrating...

2) i sometimes need to download some large files (not bt, eithe FTP or HTTP).. i leave them mostly unattended in my download manager as it sometimes take 2 or 3 hours to download a single file... when a disconnection or ip change happens... all the downloads queed in the download manager gets stuck until i access any web sites...

so i downloaded a little application named Connection Keeper 7.2
Connection Keeper 7.2

this application will simulate the opening of a web page (site you specify) on an intervalin trying to fool your modem to think that there is actually someone behind the computer... the only thing is that you'll need to install this on whicever computer that is opened for most of the time...this however still does not solve my first problem... it only resolves my problem of the downloads getting stucked....

i thought to resolve the first problem partly was to set the modem to only acquire WCDMA connection only... but in the modem... the options are grayed... are we supposed to be able to change that setting? i hope maxis could give us more options to play with in the modem like the DHCP settings and stuff....

does anyone has any better tricks than my shitty solution?

This is the details on my modem

Wireless Network InformationNetwork Provider maxis
Network Type HSDPA
RSSI -74 dBm
RSCP -78 dBm
Ec/Io -4 dB
Cell ID Dec:46112 Hex:0xb420
LAC Code 502 12 Dec1:12000 Dec2:46224 Hex:0x2e 0xe0

Modem InformationIMEI 351826010841917
Control and route module software version MACRP670M1V1.0.0B04
Wireless access module software version MAWAP670M1V1.0.0B04
Hardware version P670M1-2.0

Data Statistics Connection Status Connected
Total Data Recv 205.31MB
Total Data Sent 4.39 MB 3

according to previous post by Prasys...i think my RSSI is not very good in comparison...what is the optimum to achieve? i tried moving it around the house and it is only +_ 2 or 3 difference as i got this details from putting the modem at the window...

my speedtest at Maxis was very inconsistent... ranging from 200++ kbps to 400++kbps

speedtest.net was however better compared to maxis speedtest

i got about 400-500kbps DL and 40-50kbps UL with the preffered location
i faired better with CyberJaya location with achieving more consistent results at around 550kbps +_ DL and close to 55kbps and sometimes peaking at 60kbps UL

other than this... i also tried my personal benchmark which is to download a driver from nvidia.com which i got about 60++ KBps...which i think is fair considering the maximum achievable speed for the 640kbps package is only 80KBps... i am not that far off... slow DL speed with some other sites could most probably be cause by the extra hops it takes through other countries compared to other ISPs... however this is just my speculation... as i dun have a TM line with me at the time of posting...

Maxis only specified their DL speed.. i wonder what is their UL speed officially? I asked the agent and he wasn't very convincing in his answer...

i think he just goes to every thread that has the title maxis broadband and make a post there no mather it is filled with complaints or happy results from users... i don't think he ever even bothered to read through the thread... and as an agent... isn't he supposed to help out with some queries??? shakehead.gif

and the kicker is... why is he posting to promote maxisbb in threads like this when the users already has maxisbb and some are even thinking of abandoning it rclxub.gif

Hey there,

Your signal seems to be okay. You might face inconsistency in ydownloading and things like that. To change to WCDMA only. You'll have to do this,

Go to your modem configuration and click Network Connect. Select Disconnect Internet and press Apply. Then next up go to Network Select and choose WCDMA and press apply.

The next thing you should configure is APN Settings. I've managed to find out that the default Maxis DNS Server sucks most of the time. Yes , thats why you are unable to your .NET thingy. In order to fix this you gotta change few settings

Firstly change the APN Dial Number from *99# to *99***1# , this should fix the disconnection issue at least !.

Next change from Auto DNS to Manual DNS and use this

Primary DNS : 202.75.129.101
Standby DNS : 202.75.129.102

Give it a shot and let me know ~!

Please do me a favour if you change this settings , go to Report and Check on Do not Report. I dont want Maxis folks to know what am I up to actually !

hmmm..... hmm.gif ..... interesting theory, I think i know where you are getting at... I proposed that you quicky PM :butthead: on this post and delete your post to avoid detection, once they know they might just blocked it.

Btw, the official upload speed for MaxisBB is capped at 50kbps, sometimes they uncapped it, not sure why...

Hi Prasys,

Thanks for the info... have made the changes as soon as i saw it , especially the report sending tongue.gif (i don't want them to know either)

Just out of curiousity, does forcing it to choose only WCDMA make it stick to only HSDPA? or will it still switch around HSPDA, EDGE and UMTS when i am idle?

Anyways, thanks a heap for the steps and i'll monitor over the next few days and report back smile.gif

My speedtest.net results after changing the settings... 3 tries on each KL and CyberJaya and 1 on New York

I guess its better on some hops. Anyway I'll see if I can do anything else or not. It seems that you are getting 700kbps on burst which is good !

WCDMA only will fall back to UMTS/HDSPA. It still keeps your connection alive and it shouldn't be a problem !

50kbps is a bit slow isn't it ... especially for BTers....

i'll try to get some tracert results of a simillar address from my office and compare it with the maxis tracert...

i have been monitoring for the past few hours... it seems everything is fine.. i don't know if it is the settings that gave the changes or the Connection Keeper application that made the change... anyways... my downloads in my download manager just continues running for the past few hours...

i hope maxis considers to get rid of the initial redirection to the www.maixs.com.my/maxisbb...

it seriously is frustrating at times when it just redirects only once every re-connection... and if no connection is made, no data is passed through....i wonder what is the logic behind this???

Well it is an ingenious way of saving BW, as we all know, there are limited slots for HSDPA connection per area/basestation, so switching the non-active/idle connections to UTMS, they can reserve more slots to active users... that is why P2P connection is discourage. That is how the emergence of VPN & WebUI became popular in M'sia icon_rolleyes.gif ....

Btw, I dun understand why your connection will disconnect during ftp/http d/l? I use WebUI torrenting and perform constant ftp d/l and it never dc.... are you suffering from intermittent signal?
