TS my car is coming to 13years now. It it worth it to install a new Michelin Primacy tyre?

Previously also using primacy tyre.
*
Why not? Age of your car doesn't change what type of tyres you need.

Roger that.

For awareness, does this tyre cracking bring safety concern? It's merely 4 years old tyre.
Also, new tyre shell life 1-2 years shouldn't be any performance lost right? Some even say it's better to have a 6 months shelf tyre than a fresh tyre. Your expert view ?

Hi epjx31 and all,

Can recommend which tire for Ford Focus, size 215/45/R17?
Usage = driving for work daily, town area driving with heavy traffic
*
What are your priorities? Price? Performance? Comfort?

Cheapest options which give decent performance:
- Maxxis Victra i-Pro
- Nexen SU4

Best Overall Performance:
- Michelin PS5

Best Comfort:
- Michelin Primary 4

Thanks, yeah tried PS3 before xm2+ and its wet grip is better, wondering if there's other option that can match PS3
*
Don't think there any tyres with 15 inch who can match PS3 in the wet.

Hi epjx31,

My car is driven less (~5000km per year).
Now my car is 4 years and I think it's time to replace them with new

Here is my situation:
1. 1 total new (used, 4 years old) spare tyre 'sleep' inside my car boot
2. 2 Rear tyres are look healthy
3. 2 Front tyres should retired

I have low budget and here is what I'm planned to do
1. Replace 2 front tyres with new purchase tyres
2. Keep 1 one of my rear tyre, and exchange another rear tyre with my spare tyre

In this case, I will have 2 new tyres as my front tyres,
1 existing rear tyre, 1 unused old rear tyre,
and 1 used rear tyre as spare

May I know if this is possible? Thank you
*
If there are no visible damage or cracks on your tyres' sidewall, then there is no need for you to change your tyres since you're on a budget anyway. They can last another 5 years.

i thought this is RFT, harder sidewall should be ok to use and sustain though.

Tyres flex hard all the time while being driven. It will eventually be a problem

Anyone knows what this means? NG condition? RR 1mm means no longer enough?
*
Replace your rear tyres immediately. Minimum legal tread depth is 1.6 mm.

Two questions:
1) What's the minimal acceptable thread depth for any tire, especially when it comes to wet weather?
2) If my tire is 5+ years old, but less than 10% used, can I still drive with it?
*
1. 1.6 mm

2. As long as no sidewall damage or cracks on the sidewall, by all means use it. Tyre lifespan is 10 years.

Thanks for the advice. Just went and checked again, all four tyre thread is still comfortably above the TWI thread wear indicator, even without TWI its very obvious tyre tread still way above 1.6mm and rubber still in good condition.

Which is why I asked here, idk how workshop got the 1 mm and NG thing. That said already planning on my next tyre, michellin XM2+ or continential CC6.
*
I could be wrong but maybe check the inner side of the tyre for wear. Cars with slightly negative camber will wear the inners faster than the outer to some extent, so it doesn't actually wear out evenly as what everyone would think.

I am looking for tyre suggestion

Currently, I am on Pilot Sport 3 195/55/r15. Currently looking at getting another set of Pilot Sport 3 (PS3) or Primacy 4 ST (P4ST).
I know one is a performance tyre and one is a touring tyre.

1. Can't find people comparing them. What should I expect if I go from PS3 to P4ST in terms of grip?

2. Which tyre would you suggest? I am pretty happy with my PS3. However P4ST is a newer tyre than PS3

Thank you
*
Don't think there's Primacy 4 for your size.

Yes can still be used, but due for replacement soon. Drive slow in the wet. Use the treadwear indicator on the tyre as reference.

Hey guys, desperately need help for opinions on SUV tires. I don't have any knowledge about tires prior to this.

So my tire size is 225/55R18. My current tires are Conti CrossContact lx which came with the purchase of my car.
I usually drive around the city and kampung area a lot due to my sales job. I travel to KL and Kedah occasionally (2 - 3 times max a month). My highway speed is usually 120~140km/h, 150~160 if really in a rush.
Budget wise if can get a good tire at RM400+/piece is the best but if RM500-ish with good mileage then I suppose it's ok for me.

So I've been researching tires a lot and asking prices around as of late but I just have no idea how to judge which is good or bad or worth the value.
The tires I've looked at are:
1) Toyo CR1 - RM430 (I think, my uncle asked for me)
2) Goodyear Assurance Maxguard - RM520~550 (generally, with one exception at RM480)
3) Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance - RM545 (pretty rare find in my area)
4) Hankook ventus prime 4 - Haven't got the price yet but this is the one I'm interested in the most because it seems like the performance is as good as Efficientgrip 2 according to tyrereviews and cost less but with lesser mileage.
5) Conti CrossContact lx  - RM530 (this is quite a good tire but became noisy after idk maybe 30,000km? And going through speed bumps is really unpleasant which happened at the same time where it became noisy.)

My preference in tires regardless of price currently is
Hankook >_ Efficient grip performance > CR1 > Conti > Maxguard

Looking forward for any opinions provided and would greatly appreciate it. I'm planning to change 2 of my front tires next month as I believe it's almost 85-90% done with the tire tread.

Try to ask the prices for UC6 SUV. If it's cheaper than VP4, go for it. If VP4 is cheaper, go for VP4. If both are too expensive, then go for CR1 SUV.

Seems like you can get CR1 SUV at RM350/pc on mudah.

Well I got UC7 for RM560/piece and VP4 for RM460/piece. So, should I go for VP4 then?
Regarding to mudah, how do you claim that? Is it the same as lazada/shopee? Just go to any authorized shop?
*
In that case VP4 is the no-brainer choice here. VP4 is tested globally with proper results, while UC7 is more of a regional product.

You search the listing on mudah, and usually they will have their shop name or contact there. You can google their contact to verify and then ask again.

Thanks for the great thread OP.

I recently purchased a BMW F30 LCI that has 225/50R17 tires. Is this the original size? I was looking at some F30 brochures online (please see attachment), and it seems like it could potentially be 225/55R17s.

Secondly, aside from Primacy, can you recommend any other tires? Just wondering if there is a more wallet-friendly option if my priorities are handling>fuel economy>comfort. I don't drive this car outstation and seldom ferry more than 1 passenger.
*
Yes this is the original size. There are no F30s that came with 225/55 R17 stock in Malaysia.

If you want tyres with handling as the main priority, it's not going to be fuel-efficient. Since you mentioned Primacy, some good cheaper alternatives will be Continental MC6 and Hankook Ventus Prime4.

If performance is priority, then Bridgestone RE004.

Thank you!

Between MC6 v RE0003, I am leaning towards RE004. Is that a good choice?
*
MC6 is more of a touring tyre, although marketed as UHP.

RE004 is more performance-oriented. Sacrifices comfort for more grip.

Both are good tyres. 1 is a slightly extreme performance tyre while the other is more of an all-rounder.

For hankook ventus prime 4 vs continental UC7, which is better?
Size is 185/55R16

Hankook VP4  - RM190
Continental UC7 - RM215
*
I'll take the VP4 if these are the prices.

QUOTE(kira_88 @ Dec 11 2023, 08:53 AM)
Currently using potenza ree004, planning to go for hankook VP4 will it be an upgrade or a downgrade?

size is 215/50/17
*
Downgrade in terms of performance. Upgrade in terms of comfort.

Already got comparison ready in tyre reviews...
*
This comparison reviews the performance of the tyres, as well as their subjective comfort. But it did not test the longevity or average wear.

Interested to get other people's experience that may be used in different conditions or circumstances, and also their own opinion on the comfort and wear based on their usage.
