QUOTE(krynzpeaches @ Jan 25 2008, 12:04 AM) Yes, mealworms and cricket provide them with protein, but make sure to gutload it a little, the mealworms and crickets sold here are not enough healthy. KP, do means to me? The pics shown in my threads is not a permanent cage. just to show off to ppl only.. Can feed them everyday too in little amount. I hope you don't mind, but please get a bigger cage for your suggie. The hamster cage shown in the GS is wayyyyy too small for suggies even tho the joey looks small. Big cage is very important to keep suggies. Do spend some time reading the first page as well as some discussion done here in this forum. There are plenty of useful infos for newbies. Keeping glider is not a short term commitment, it's a long term commitment. Selling is easy, but keeping them needs a lot more commitment. KP Im still waiting my big cage from supplier as them promise me to get a cheap price. Measurement of dat cage is around half smaller than urs, and exactly the same pattern. Birds cage. *My temporrary cage is not really small, and not a hamster cage. its a birds cage, something for "burung Nuri". Enuff to fit one glider. Consider comfortable for a moment. |

QUOTE(Reanne @ Jan 25 2008, 02:39 AM) Make sure get from a reputable seller, not from a mill/supplier as they usually sell too young or unhealthy. haha, not sure that u breed cricks or not, now i got it already lo.Nope, I don't breed. i do breed on cricks, but then every time will become less, becasue got some house gecko everytime sneak into the cage and eat them, especially my pinhead cage. hmm, i long long time wanna keep sg already, but then now still got few pets on hand. later when they meet up their time then only i get sg... but again, hand itchy la... haha... |

Actually, I am very envious of you sugar glider owners. I have wanted a pair of sugar gliders for almost 3 years now. About a year back, I nearly bought them from Hun but last minute pull off cause I just bought Casper, my male Westie and was going to move house then.
A year passed and then I bought Moonie, my female Westie home. Until this day, I still want to own my own pair of sugar gliders but my sister and gf is against the idea. Current house (havent moved yet) also has no place to keep such a big cage. Gf also making noise said we are to save for wedding next year but I keep spending on pets and constantly reminded me I have two dogs already. I come here quite often, for the sake of satisfying my knowledge on these little creatures. Hope I am welcome here and some of you vet will be able to answer my questions even though I possibly will never own any. They are nocturnal animals, so does it mean that if you bring sugar gliders out in the pouch from 8am - 6pm (working hours), they would not wake up? During these long 10 hours, they sleep all the way through?? How about doing their business in this period of time? I also understand that we must keep them as a pair. Then, I read that some of you bring one to work today and the other to work the next day - take turns. I thought they cannot afford to live alone as they are colonial in the wild. So Monday comes, you bring A out to work for 10 hours. You left B at home alone for that 10 hours. Tuesday comes, its B turn to go to the office with you and A is left behind. Wont this have a negative effect on them, especially when they're alone for 10 hours, they wake up just to friend their friend... gone? Enlighten me please. Thank you. |

You don't have to own one to love 'em, so it's no problem to have you around. A year passed and then I bought Moonie, my female Westie home. Wont this have a negative effect on them, especially when they're alone for 10 hours, they wake up just to friend their friend... gone? Enlighten me please. Thank you. They are nocturnal, so they sleep away most of the day but doesn't mean they can't wake up. Our glider owners here usually bring them out in their pouches all day, but we don't constantly play with them, allowing them to sleep in the pouch. Once they get used to the motion of being in the pouch while we do our daily routine, it's not easy to wake them unless you take them out. Like I can run, walk, or even jump and Billie will stay fast asleep in her pouch. They do wake up themselves when they need to pee and/or poo, or even play. Billie is a pouch destroyer because when she wants to pee, means she wants to pee, so have to secretly take her out during class for her to pee. But sometimes she wants to play, which will result in the process of destroying the zipper because I can't leave her out too long. But usually if you do not take them out for a long period of time and they stay asleep in the pouch, the next time you do, they will usually automatically pee and/or poo right after you take them out. That kind of routine to bond to 2 is okay for short periods of time, preferably not over a day, but once in a while let them rest, like don't bring them out for alternate days. Its recommended to have a strong bond to the first one though, then only get a second. And also, bringing both out at the same time is better than leaving one at home, unless you have no confidence when it comes to handling 2 at once. It does have a negative effect if you do it too often and separate them for too long. QUOTE(jinhoe @ Jan 26 2008, 02:21 AM) will changing their sleeping time to nite affect them? they are nocturnal by nature. and ya, 1 thing tat my fren ask me, how many nipple a sugie have? more than 4? They have an average of 4 nipples, but can only conceive 2-3 at the most. Anymore would be unnatural or unusual. Apparently you can change their sleeping time, but it would depend on your glider and you would need to keep that routine up no matter what once it's set, or it may have a negative effect on your glider. You also must make sure your glider does sleep at night if you are determined to keep it up during the day. However, changing an animal's natural behaviour is never something you should take lightly and personally not recommended as it may be unnecessarily stressful to the glider. Reanne,
How do you secretly take her out of the pouch? She doesn't crab or anything? Mine crabs, if she needs to do her business when she is in the pouch, in fact sometimes, she'll start punching/kicking the pouch if I did not respond to her crabbing and let her out. Then, right after doing her business on me, she'll dash right back to the pouch. |

All my gliders don't crab when I try to take them out, they only crab if something suddenly pokes them or the pouch knocks on something.
I will scoop them out, then put them on the table or inside the desk for them to pee and poo. Sometimes their pee really stinks despite them being females, so I dislike them ever peeing on me. |
