Hi guys, this is a home for my suggies buddies, made of an aquarium frame 6 ft tall and 4 ft wide,
a wooden frame for the doors, i think i should put proper tents and hammocks rather than unused cloth.

Hi buttercup and crazymouse,
O sorry, can't recall how much i bought the aquarium stand already.. it's quite budgetary.. To make this, it's very simple one. The aquarium stand is a double deck caters for two 4 ft aquarium and can be dismantled to be stored away. I bought it from this dealer Ah Loy: Loy Aquarium 19, Jln SS 26/8. Tmn Mayang Jaya Tel: 03-78053682 Started it by making a calculation of the surface area that needs to be covered with coated wire mesh. A hardware shop in OUG sells this green colored coated wire. 2 sizes are available, 1" x 1/2" inch spacing or ½" x ½" inch spacing, the latter is of better quality. Just simply wrap all the sides with coated wire like wrapping a box or gift and fastened with cable ties. Then follow by the top and bottom. There are 2 large doors, one top and the other bottom. A small door at the side for serving dishes. SG get very excited during dinner time and they tend to escape through large doors, so a small door comes in handy. The wooden door frames are nailed together. Put on hinges. Finally for safety measures, put 2 safety pins / screws on each doors. Well isn't this easy to make? Try it and it's lots of fun too! |

QUOTE(sogoatticus @ Nov 30 2007, 03:40 PM) my mom sure scold me n ask me to study rather than waste time to glider.. Well, To have the support of my family, when i was schooling, i set apart exactly 3 hours a day for revising and study. Consistently doing it everyday. After that 3 hours, i will watch TV or play with pets etc. leisures.. and NO MORE STUDY.. My parents knew about my "3 hour a day" study plan as i told them, so they will never scold me for having leisures and playing with pets after my study hour. Don't be discouraged by your mom ok? Have a nice day.. |

QUOTE(vincent09 @ Nov 30 2007, 06:39 PM) Ok, i will check again when was Ah Pit wake up time, sometime when i look at her around 10pm, i saw her stay at sleeping house door there look like waiting food coming ~ Vincent,This is best time to call your suggies. When i call my suggies, they will peep from behind with inquisitively look, and in response to my calling, they will jump out.. I think they have recognised my voice now. KP, Apparently, your feeding schedule is similar to mine. First, i give them their dinner in the late evening, then subsequently their supper. The next day, a light breakfast in the morning. But their menu for super is only the salad, because i don't want the leftover to invite the colony of ants.. jaswwp, Hi, would like to know about your pets collection and learn from your experience cos i am a newbie here.. So you have more time to take care of your pets now yeah? |

QUOTE(buttercup07 @ Dec 1 2007, 05:42 AM) silverwineus It seems like your abu and suggies very manja2.. Mine is not exceptional as well, quite manja too. Even though they take it for granted sometimes, but love covers all.ur salad contains wat inside ? my glider seldom eat vege lah... btw...how to actually make them eat scramble egg or telur rebus ar ? they like tak layan the food only..... and how to actually halau the small small lalat ar ?? haiya...i put daun serai they still come lah... Added on December 1, 2007, 7:21 amnew update...i saw ally(the female) eating the telur.....not abu... they very choosy wan...wanna start give mealworm...dunno wether they nak makan or not... Oh you want my salad recipe? Hehe.. Nothing extraordinary la.. I give them just a few selection of veges that are intended for my guinea and tort, like sawi, kangkung, carrot(they especially like this one), cucumber, spinach and the like.. i don't know whether oyster mushroom is good for them, maybe some may advice me on this. I observe that suggies are fond of sugary food. I think veges are rather plain in flavour, so it won't appeal much to the suggies. If you were to put apples, mealworm and veges into a bowl and test them, they will most likely go for the mealworm first, then apples, and finally the vege. Do you all agree? Therefore i will leave only the vege with them for the night, and since that's the only choice for them or starve, they will settle on for the vege. I think, suggies have all their likes and dislikes, if yours do not like scramble eggs, you can try by just giving them the yoke and see what happens. Another method which has already been mentioned below is to mix the yoke with Gerber's applesauce or honey. Hopefully they will layan. Well, let me know what's the outcome. This is the first time i heard this, using daun serai as a deterrent to flies, hmm.. If you are really really annoyed with this fly, then install mosquitoes netting to your entire house just like mine, of course that's just meant for joking.. You can use mosquito netting for your cage, but it won't be able to shield you from the very small flying insects. It can prevent the larger ones though. Or you might want to bring them in with a carrier and let them eat in it. Place the carrier at a place that's safe from insects, maybe an enclosure with locked doors or window. If possible don't leave the food there for too long. I used to let my suggies eat in a small cage and membelai them while they eat as a way of bonding. I believe your suggies will love mealworms, but i have come to know that its content of fat is high, so nowadays i am not so generous with mealworms but rather the crickets. Well, nice effort, thanks for sharing the website, it's indeed helpful, let me know what's site is that if you will? Have a nice weekend to all.. Added on December 1, 2007, 4:59 pm QUOTE(krynzpeaches @ Nov 30 2007, 05:00 PM) Vincent, For those who face a hurdle before they could keep their pets will cherish theirs more..I used to keep pets "sorok2" from my dad during school days cuz my dad does not like me keeping pets... Lucky my mum was okay Now I can keep pets easily(well not that easy... but atleast don't need to hide, except when my dad comes over my house ler Family will marah because they just want us to give priority to studies ofcourse. If you can prove that you are good at handling everything equally, then I don't think it should be a problem... However, keeping a glider while you are studying is a bigger commitment and challenge as they need a lot more care and attention. KP This post has been edited by silverwineus: Dec 1 2007, 04:59 PM |

QUOTE(buttercup07 @ Dec 4 2007, 03:26 AM) guys...ive read in an article somewhere i forgot the link... What i know is sugar gliders can contract aflatoxicosis, ingestion of the aflatoxins, by eating crickets who have been fed contaminated corn or feeds.they say that there is something in cricket that can actually make ur glider sakit....the fluid inside cricket can make something lah....some penyakit... lupa wat..issit true ? Added on December 4, 2007, 7:13 pm QUOTE(crazymouse_yyh @ Dec 3 2007, 10:04 PM) Haha, you are most welcomed to be my honored guest. But there's really nothing remarkable aboout my pets.. i have some fishes, bird, marsupials, chelonians, rodents..During my badminton game yesterday, my friends noticed that i was scratching my hands. Both hands were marked with red rashes. They asked me why. Then today, another friend asked me what were those scratches on my hand. Do you guys have these scratches and rashes associated with gliders? Just want to know. This post has been edited by silverwineus: Dec 4 2007, 07:14 PM |

QUOTE(buttercup07 @ Dec 6 2007, 08:54 AM) guys... I use a forcep to snap the live crickets into a transparent plastic container with a perforated lid, those sold in aquarium shop, and then i put the gliders in. Save time on catching one by one for them. Added on December 6, 2007, 8:55 amanother thing...how do u guys intro crickets to ur glider? feed them alive or dead? and how to actually put insde the food place? the cricket will jump off and run rite? or patahkan the jumping leg? and the amount? hehe Added on December 6, 2007, 8:58 ami got this statement from a website.. insects in general, are low in calcium, so they should be gut loaded with a high quality diet containing additional calcium. This means that insects, such as crickets, must be fed a special supplement prior to feeding them to the sugar gliders... how? The thought of disjointing their legs is rather displeasing. Crickets have low calcium phophorus ratio. that's why additional calcium supplement is to be added to the sugar glider's diet. Why need to add to the crickets' diet instead? I gut load my cricket with carrots and greens, source of vitamin. But haven't tried with the bunga raya, this flower has a high Ca/Ph ratio. It's the staple food for my tortoise. It's sooo crunchy & sweet! .... For reference, most of the best suited sites are listed in the 1st page You can read thru a few and decide which one suits you best... Personally for me, I will always refer to - suncoast, petsugargliders, thepetglider and ofcourse sugarshack KP Persimmon is a great delight for my gliders Added on December 8, 2007, 1:56 pmAn upate, I have a confrontation with an uninvited guest in my house just now. When i saw it, I thought when did i or my family add another furred animal in the house? Well, the shrewd monkey intruded thru my back door and grabbed away what belongs to my gliders- their persimmom. This post has been edited by silverwineus: Dec 8 2007, 02:00 PM |

QUOTE(emino @ Dec 13 2007, 07:07 PM) Heya fellas. I'm interested in keeping a sugar glider as a pet Helo, i'm not a glider veteran, but would share my view with you.I have a few questions. 1. How does their poop looks like? and how bad is the smell? 2. Will it be okay if I place their cages on the balcony of my house once I got one of these adorable creature? Hopefully someone will answer those questions. Looking forward for the answers, and will rpob ask more later Their poop is very alike to the household lizards, but slightly larger. In terms of smell of the critter, keeping it indoor might be different than outdoor. Due to the better ventilation of outdoor environment, smell can be much diminished. Personally i chosed to keep glider, part of the reason is, that it is very much cleaner animal, compared to the rodents. I have kept mine outdoor and didn't notice any smell so far, but do not know about indoor keepers. If the balcony is not expose to direct sunlight to a great extent, i think there's no harm. You can read more on this subject on the harm of direct sunlight on glider's sensitive eyes. |

QUOTE(emino @ Dec 13 2007, 09:15 PM) Thanks for answering Unlike most people, my gliders take turn for their office trip and car ride during week days.I dont think the sunlight would reach the place on the balcony, but to be safe, I shall install some blinds/tirai on that area. BTW, isit safe to bring the glider to teh outdoors? They will be in the pouch when i had my breakfast, sometimes they will make some noises which kinda startle some surrounding peeps. I will make it a quick one. They need to be attended to if they are restlessly moving, wiggling in the pouch. I will pet them in the car and put them in a small cage in my office when i arrived. We need to consider the reaction of people when we bring them for our happy hour teh tarik and mamak. Then we need to keep the glider confined and restricted to an area, best is the cage, to be safe than sorry. |

before i have these pocket pets to bring along to work, well actually, i used to bring guinea pigs. It's rather silly and "illegal" sort of thing but fortunately no one seems to mind, my superior and collegues are all nice people. |

Well, this week i tried sth too.
Just make use of the old clothes to do pouches and stuff for my pets for fun. But of course not as adept as yours in making these things. I'm thinking of making some protective covering for my hands. Just some problem with rashes, whenever they climb on my hands. can we see your masterpiece when it's finished? This post has been edited by silverwineus: Dec 14 2007, 06:46 PM |

QUOTE(krynzpeaches @ Dec 14 2007, 06:10 PM) Ofcourse, when the cage upgrade is done (be it DIY or buy a cage) I will share it here You are spot on, i think it's time to trim their nails.About the rashes, do you trim their nails? Trimming their nails can reduce chances of getting scratched or poked onto thus reducing the rashes. If you let them climb about you, you need to trim their nails atleast once a week. I try and make a point to do it every week, if not, I will end up having rashes too after their climbing sessions Just yesterday I dunno who left a little scratch on my right hand and it itches like hell. It gets really-really itchy from minor scratches from their nails or the nibbling that Iggy loves to give me Last week, didn't cut Luna's nail for 2 weeks and when she did a dash under my shirt onto my shoulder, she left some lovely itchy red scratches which was also a total pain when I took my shower KP After washing with soaps and water and applying Nixodem, it does relieve. I don't know you are aware of this statement i read before. It says that the saliva in combination with their sharp nails can puncture the skin and cause a condition known as dermatitis. That's why "Something about their nails and teeth can cause itchiness to me..." My friends or family misunderstood as being unhygienic, and that's the impression they have on me, haha.. |
