Out of curiosity, can anyone connect through Adium lately? Been trying, but the status remains at "Connecting (0%)" for a fairly long time. Messenger for Mac works fine, though. Just wondering, because I want to try out Adium. (I tried using aMSN, but I kept getting errors every time I wanted to change a font colour.)

@equustel,
I'm on Adium for 3 separate messengers (MSN/YM/AIM) and have no problems getting through. Perhaps U put in the wrong password; just check your preference/configurations again.

Hmm, that's odd. I re-entered my password when I was fiddling around with the preferences to see what was wrong. Never mind; I'll try it again later. Thanks!

ETA: Don't want to spam this topic, so I'll post this as an edit. I can connect to Adium fine now. biggrin.gif

Aww man, I got some good news and bad news sad.gif

Good news is that I manage to borrow the philips screwdriver to remove the L bracket so that I can upgrade my rams smile.gif

Bad news is that one of the ram seems to be faulty, I insert both rams (mushkin) and my macbook cant boot. Remove one and it works like a charm, right now running on 2.5gb only instead of 4gb sad.gif

Now I need to send the rams to my bro-in-law in KL to claim the warranty, haih sad.gif

Finally got around getting the appropriate video editing software I need to edit my home movies. Got myself the Final Cut Express 4.0 ,and in addition to iMovie 08, it covers my needs well. Some of the effects in Motion & Colour does not work on my Macbook 2.16Ghz, but that is expected. The scratch disk is the still voluminous Macbook HDD I've just recently upgraded, and although the final render takes a bit of time, I'm pleased that it does the job without me needing to resort to getting a Macbook Pro.

Next stop would be getting a .Mac subscription. I would eventually get myself a Macbook Pro in the future, but not until Montevina/Nehalem which would bring about a case redesign. I'm tired of the Powerbook look already, plus the wait may even result in me either going the iMac or even Mac Pro route.

Until then, this little white machine of pride of mine does the job admirably.

I asked Machines if its possible to upgrade my specs, and they said that they would need to order it for me and it would take about 4-6 weeks. Coz i was thinking of getting a white MacBook but with 250GB hard disk... Dont really like the black... It looks alright from the top, but the keypads and all dont really look nice in black... However, they couldn't give me a price estimate...

If you get it yourself at Lowyat, it is approx RM410 for 250GB 2.5" SATA.

Maybe he scared he might do something wrong. I won't upgrade mb by myself as well. If something goes wrong and mb goes kaput, waste 4000 just like that.

The hdd installation is very very simple. If you capable of unscrew a small screws, you pretty much ready. You'll need a Philips 0 or 1 to remove the L bracket and torx t8 to remove the hdd mount, took me about 5 mins to do it smile.gif

ps - above is my experience on macbook 13 inch, not sure about macbook pro tongue.gif

Not enough RAM. Spend ~RM180 and get 2GB RAM extra and you'll see a *huge* difference.

When i was surfing the net i saw this:

EXPLODING MACS ARE BACK

Yes, you heard right. A good friend of mine, and part time contributor to Appletell, James Bayliss, is the latest victim of an exploding laptop. James wasn't hurt or anything other than a small burn on his hand, but both his MacBook Pro and desk have seen better days.

James was sitting at his desk yesterday, reading Digg, when all of a sudden he heard a loud "POP". Immediately after this pop, sparks and flames started shooting out from his MacBook Pro, lighting his desk on fire and giving him a slight burn as he tried to put out the flames. He finally got the fire out, unplugged his MacBook Pro and pulled out the battery and gave Apple Europe a call.

Upon calling Apple, James was transferred through a half dozen departments until he reached someone who claimed to be someone quite high up with Apple Europe. James was asked a large amount of questions over the phone. They asked whether he had to call the fire department, if there was any major damage to his house, what color was the smoke, did the smoke make you sick, did you get hurt, etc. etc. Upon answering these questions, James was told he should be receiving a phone call the following day (Today, March 12, 2008) - which he has just told me he did not receive.

It's very sad to see Apple fumbling on this one, and we hope James gets everything sorted out, and soon. He's currently stuck using his dads Vista laptop. We'll keep you updated on the situation as it happens. You can check out a interview that James did with Chris Pirillo yesterday following the event at Chris' blog.

Update: James has gotten in contact with Apple who is sending him a new laptop, as soon as he returns his current one.
