If you watch mainly downloaded Avi, get the Dvix codex for quicktime. VLC is good option for viewing pretty much anything, but the app sometimes quits unexpectedly while in full screen.

I think you need to be more specific. What does your wife frequently use the computer for?

If it's just some basic emailing, surfing and some music. The entry line Macbook would be more than sufficient.

Get it later this month when Leopard is out tongue.gif

Contrary to popular belief, the black Macbooks do get dirty too. They suffer from oil stains which is rather annoying. But it's can be wiped off.

The white Macbooks on the other hand, has a glossy exterior finish, you have to be careful or you might leave some unpleasant scratches on the surface. (the black macbook has a matte finish)

Hmm.... wished I had a pic to show.

But it's something like this, imagine a matte surface which is kinda faded. Then you put on a little baby oil on it, the area kinda shines a little. That's the oil stain effect of the black Macbook.

Hey all,

My Macbook developed a few hairline cracks on the sides. It's not really that noticable but I'm afraid the crack would get larger!

What are the contact/address for Apple service centre in the Klang Valley? Do I need to make an appointment?

thanks

I bought my Macbook from them. My past experience with them isn't exactly the best....

It's on the side right side, the side with the superdrive. Not on the palm-rest area.

It should come with iLife '08.

Just make sure to double check when making your purchase...

The current market price for 1GB of Kingston Value RAM is RM85.

I'm on Corsair's Value RAM. Been using for 6 months. No problems.

Jonathan,

What is your idling temperature without running any applications? If it's high all the time, it may suggest that your internal fans may be having problems.

Running at 80-85 degrees all the time is going to reduce the lifespan of your Mac. In your case, I highly recommend you to get Applecare.

As for the heat issues, there is nothing much you can do other than purchase a notebook cooler. I use the Zalman-NC1000. It helps keep the temperature constant average 50 for me while doing surfing, chatting. Nothing intensive though.

Alternatively, download this little application called "smcFancontrol". It allows you to set a higher fan speed.

De-authorize your iTunes account before installing Leopard.

Make backups of any important data. It's always after the reinstall that you realize you forgot to backup somethings....

It's better for a clean install.

Skip unnecessary printer drivers if you want to save on HDD sapce.

Have fun? tongue.gif

If you are gonna be using the Mac on the go a lot, I wouldn't get the glossy screen variant. The reflections can get a little annoying at times.

I see not much of difference between the matte and gloss screens in terms of fatigue.

Yup, the current Macbook/MBPs tend to run hot especially when on intensive software.

You can monitor your temperature using Temperature Monitor.

I wonder the "multi-touch" will come to MB/MBPs since it's only software.

We can already scroll using 2 fingers....

For the GMA950,

720 is alright. 1080p is a no no. Lags and drops frames...
