hey guys, I've been on unifi DSL for like years now because I like having the router in my room since im the main user. But now considering to upgrade to fibre but then router will be outside, trying to figure out what's the most stable way to get a wired connection to my room.

Drilling is a no-no. So no way of routing cables through the walls. So im left with getting another router to use as an extender cum AP, or to try a powerline ethernet adapter. Any advice?

Priorities are stability over speed.
*
Drilling for direct cable connection is the only way for stability.
Any wireless is unable to get 100% stable connection ,even powerline will also be affected by a lot of factor.

Leave that modem at your current place. Extend that router to your room using cable clip that used double tape along the wall until your room.

maybe you can explain, where the router would be (hall? downstairs?) and where is your room (1st floor?)

I live in a condo, the router would be in the living room and my room is right behind the wall of where the router would be. I currently have my broadband router in my room up on a tall shelf and the WiFi isnt the best atm for the living room. Stability issues like im in my room and the wifi works on my phone but sometimes it doesn't work for laptops and phones in the living room. Current router is an ASUS RT-AC1200G+.

IMHO using a WiFi 6 router and a PCIE WiFi 6 adapter will provide better performance and stability compared to Powerline.

Can someone recommend a good router + mesh wifi setup for below to maximise 800mbps speed over wifi?

House type: Landed
Size of house: 3000-3500 sqft, 2 storey
Features required: just need for wifi6 and Unifi TV box, prefer wifi 6 to future proof router
Number of devices connected to WiFi: ~5 computers, ~10 mobile phones/tablets
Internet Speed: Unifi turbo 800Mbps package
Budget: below RM500 possible? if not, please advise something below RM1k.

Router will be placed at ground floor TV area, is there 1 router that can give the 800mbps wifi speed to 2nd floor? if not, what's the suitable router + mesh wifi setup?

thanks in advance!

I dare not say a router or mesh can give you 800mbps all the time, as it also depend on your devices and several factors that affects WiFi speed. Below RM500 I would suggest Tp-Link Archer AX73. If you willing to spend more, then TP-Link Deco X20 twin pack or X60 twin pack.

Thanks for the recommendation. If I get Deco X20 or X60, do I still need the router? or below is the setup that doesn't need other routers anymore:

Fiber modem -> ethernet port -> X20/X60 on ground floor + X20/X60 on second floor

I have a wall ethernet that connects first floor to second floor, can the Deco take advantage of the wall ethernet connection?

Yes. And you will get full internet speed with MESH through Ethernet

Yup... full gigabit connection between the Decos.

I use a pair of X20. thumbsup.gif Replacing my 1 year ++ Deco M4. Both my deco connected using ethernet too. Solid.

I see only 2 ethernet ports in the decos, if 1 is for the fiber connection, and another 1 is for wall connection, means no more for Unifi IPTV box? how to setup so it can serve wall connection to 2nd floor and IP tv? IP TV use wireless connection?

Sorry, not sure, but it had been discussed before. Can't remember the exact solution...

My Unifi IPTV box is connected direct to port 4 fibre modem. I request TM to do it. sweat.gif

Don't need other router. Just connect the first unit to BTU and setup your Unifi connection.

Check if your UniFi TV can connect using wireless? If it is those 4k box, can use Wifi.

Both Maxis and Unifi same price if you take the 30mbps or 100mbps. Check either Celcom or Digi if you don't intend to go 100mbps plan.

no way i go for wireless connection in malaysia (i can't even make proper phone call).

Maxis is suck for me.
1. IP issue.
2. Maxis seem like cutting some corner in international connections.
3. maxis local route always on OLD cache.

Not wireless. Those providers also have home fibre connection. But of course tumpang TM's infra. Have not heard of any recent Unifi promo apart from those 300mbps, 500mbps with deco. You can read through 2 or 3 pages above if interested.

TM is now making a promotion by giving away a 42inch LCD TV or Samsung Galaxy Tab A for free to any user from another ISP who moves to Unifi (make sure the old ISP account is still active)
