At first it is max speed as the files that being read but not yet written is placed in cache first, due to the actual write speed is slower. After the cache is full then it will show the actual write speed. Cache can be either DRAM on SSD or PC's RAM, depends on your SSD model.

What is the average top speed and the average slow speed? What's your PC's SSD model?

didn't check the speed (exact values). Patriot Burst 240GB.

I've noticed that silicon power has raised their price, do anyone know why:

How long does it take to check for bad blocks on a 500GB ssd?
I'm currently running badblocks command (via linux) to check because Ubuntu>Disks say it has 32 bad sectors. badblocks has been running for 4 hours now. Is this to be expected?

Regret didn't use -sv. Only use -v. Dunno the percentage of progress rclxub.gif
UPDATE: I cancel it via ^c. Seems like 5 hours for 30 percent (based on my interpretation on the block number)

FYI, currently the drive is connected via USB2.0 (in ext hdd case)

^ Looks like it's gonna take more than a day rclxub.gif

AFAIK that's not how SSD is determined to be dying. The bad sectors part. hmm.gif
My Crucial® SSD has Bad Sectors.

my reallocated sector count increasing bye.gif
it also cannot be formatted. i try with gparted. format it to ntfs. looks like the operation success because i can copy file into it. after unplug the drive and plug back in, it's not ntfs anymore (back to raw). bangwall.gif

Maybe the port unstable power? Try use port with USB3 or at the back, that is on mobo?

I see the SSD still new, maybe see after few days, if not then need RMA

tried with usb2, usb3, even usb-c

decided to give it a dedicated thread: https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/5109941 icon_question.gif

Just got my new SSD 512GB, but feel Windows and program loading speed slower than my previous 240GB SSD, and it ran hot. Run CrystalDiskMark came out result even slower than normal 7200rpm HDD!

Not sure can I claim RMA or warranty for slow performance? Anyone got similar experience before?

what is the type of connection you use?

m.2 heatsink test
https://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/guru3...mal_test,3.html

QUOTE
It’s time for the conclusion. Do NVMe M.2 SSDs need heatsinks? The answer is simple – yes, they do. As we’ve checked, if you don’t want your NVMe SSD to overheat, you’ll need a cooler. Luckily the main ones are passive. The NVMe SSDs are very easy to install, but you need to remember to keep the temperature in control, as they don’t like the high temperatures in high workload usage, and for sure, it’ll impact the period of life of the drive to some extent.

the faster the drive-tested disk was, the hotter it ran. The radiators/heatsink helped bring the temperature down, and it was easier to maintain the correct level of performance. Even a motherboard radiator does a great job

good to see price drop. but smaller capacity price seems stagnant.
