Not really, Excel is really not optimised for the Mac and even the one for M1. I run the same exact excel on my Ryzen 16 core 32Gb machine and it runs flawlessly. It definitely run a lot better in a Windows environment.

Looks like my MBA delivery hitting a snag. Received an email my order on hold due to payment issue. Wanna update payment details but Apple website giving out error. Their shipment scheduled on a weekend where calling Apple Support Team will be futile since they go offline on weekends.

Anyone has any complaints about the hinge of their MBA M1?

My hinge is quite stiff whenever I change the angle after the screen remained at a position for awhile. Is this common?

O yes I have this too. Every now & then the hinge will like pop with a nasty sound. So it's inconsistent with it's easy of opening with one hand. I suppose has a lot to do with the bottom counterweight but it's more of an annoyance at any rate. At least it reminds me constantly to be gentle with the machine.

Do you think it will cause any further problem in the future?
Anyway, I've schedule a support call with Apple on upcoming monday for my wifi problem. Will let them know about this and see what they gonna to say about it.

What wifi issue are you facing? I have been getting constant disconnects with my Asus Lyra mesh network. When its connected to the main Asus router no issues or when I connect to the Cisco AP in my office no issues. Seems like certain devices I constantly get disconnected from it.

My MBA can't get network access after switch on or logon from sleep and it has connected with my home wifi & even hotspot(and this problem exist since day 1). However, my wifi have no issue with all my other devices. I had tried reinstall the macOS and reset my wifi configuration & router after guided by live chat support several times but the problem still exist(even restart doesn't helps).

Throughout the past few days, I've discovered a way to access the network by running the Diagnostic Report(Option+Wifi icon).
It seems like the diagnostic report somehow does trigger something in my MBA because my internet is mystically back to life whenever I click 'start' on the diagnostic report. So far, this method hasn't disappoint me yet but it definitely quite frustrated as days go by because I've to do it everytime before I start using this MBA.

So hopefully the call support on upcoming monday can help me get rid of this or best is offer me a replacement .

Uh oh...! I'm using Lyra as well...

I did recovered from my old macbook Pro(late 2011) via the Time Machine at first but it stopped halfway by some error message. So i proceed without recovering in the end instead as too much time needed for recovery.

I did reinstalled the MacOS few days ago as per live chat support instructed but the problem still exists.

Is there by any chances theres a USB 3.0 thumbdrive connected to the Mac? I faced this frustrating situation before but upon removing all peripherals specifically my sandisk ultrashift usb 3.0 pendrive, the connection magically recovers.

As for your case, I wouldn't worry about it... If there's any problem on payments, your son will get an email from Apple asking for update of payment details...

An update after I finished my Apple's call support.
After 5 times trial of shutting down for 2mins & reopen my MBA and the problem doesn't occurred throughout the whole trial(not sure I should be happy or not - -).
So the representative advised and scheduled me an appointment to the nearest service centre available for further investigation(included my hinge complaint).

TL;DR/DW - Performs 2-3x better than Excel on Intel Mac, but whether faster than Windows IDK.
