i too have customized my mkb but not to that extent. at most i just customize my keycaps for better ones like signatureplastics doubleshot group buy, a mooglekit (this is a kit i helped give the initial idea. it's purpose is to have the custom keycaps for the missing ones that have a matching color as another set of keycaps from a donor OLD mkb that did not have keycaps that would fit a modern mkb for some of the keycaps. hence why you needed this kit made as a supplement), and some dye sublimated keycaps (these use dyse that are very impervious to wearing out, and gives a different look compared to doubleshots). i also got some led windowed keycaps, because some of the switches had lighting components so the normal keycap wouldn't be nice for those, hence i needed ones that had windows on them which i had to source from classic donor keyboards.

smile.gif

also it's nice if your mkb supports NKRO, although most people would be ok even if it's just 6KRO. But if you have a NKRO option available, why not.

Then some people have preferences for the led lighting bling, which is fine. But then you usually have to choose between that and doubleshot keycaps. Personally i prefer just quality doubleshot and/or dye sublimated keycaps with good contrast that is durable to usage over long periods of time :}

I've used my mkb for many years already now, and i haven't feel the need to replace any of the switches just yet :} this is also why you get a mkb. Not only is it comfortable to use, but it can last for quite a long time. So the costs justify it in the end. But thats not to say you can't haggle for a good deal. Heck this girl spent RM500 and got a custom mkb, which seems pretty good. although i personally can't live without the numpad. If you do plenty of data entry kind of jobs involving numbers, that numpad is pretty important for speed typing.

one development for the keyboard i'm most interested is the optical light sensors for helping register key actuations. things got even more responsive and accurate with that sort of addition. but that said i don't feel the need to make any new purchase. so hopefully by the time i do need a change, prices will come down  sweat.gif

Fuh, the godfather of LYN's mech kb club is here. notworthy.gif

And ya, as a fellow mkb oldie, I'm kind of cynical with some developments of mkb industry these few years.

One thing i particularly not fond of is the trend of "they made a gasket mount KB, so we must make one too", it's the new "RGB" of mkb industry.

Another thing I'm particularly shocked after previous hiatus of 4-6 years is now there's almost thousands of switches out there, which is kind of uncalled for (do we really need yet another switch which is POTENTIALLY better than existing one?), but well the more the competition, the better it is.

Lastly, I'm saddened to find that Costar stabilisers (which is much unwelcomed as ever) are pretty much getting extinct in last few years thanks to the blooming growth of mkb industry from China. Last time their OEMs are 50/50 between Costar and Cherry stabs; but nowadays almost all of them shifted towards full Cherry stabs already.

been busy with other things which arguably is more addicting sweat.gif

i agree with u to some extent. although i advocated for mkbs, i'm a rather frugal spender. i buy 1 good mkb and thats it (i say that but i did buy 1 vintage mkb, as a collectible xd... which i do use on some occassions during my troubleshoots). thats all i ever tried to endorse. get a good mkb that can last u a good long time, so that initial high price point will pay off in the long run. so there is no reason to go for cheaper rubber domes unless you are really stretched for cash in the short term console.gif

do u rely need to get a new mkb or parts for each year to follow trends? personally i don't do that. then again i'm not the type of person that follows the crowd, i do my own thing at my own leisure and pace sweat.gif

right, different strokes for different folks. the mkb ecosystem is still getting richer everyday. it doesn't matter which path you go for, there is a place for everyone.

Finally received my Q1 Knob version today. Bought along a set of Christmas keycap but I guess it's too late to celebrate Christmas with that keycap.

Overall as a novice user, I'm surprised by the Q1 quality and oh my, this keyboard is really heavy compared to my very first Mech Keyboard One2SF.

From a full size keyboard to 65% keyboard, I'm definitely missing some dedicated keys such as F ~ and Insert... So maybe 75% is a balance between full size and 65%.

Switching from Brown -> Red switch and will see how it goes.

I wish Keychron include dust cover to protect the keyboard from dusty environment...

in terms of key layouts, it depends on individual typing habits, the will and time to adapt imo. i don't have the latter, so i keep doing the former.

unless you feel like wanna be more adventurous, just choose what you feel comfortable with.

When you have neither, you have to go full size.

Actually the brown switches is on One2SF. I'm moving from One2SF (Brown) -> Q1 (Red).

Red feels softer but smooth and quiet which is good typing at night...

Got it, thought that if you were already buying them, then I thought why not a trade. Cool and have fun. I am still learning about all these mechanical keyboard stuff as well haha.

What switch are you upgrading to?

I haven't decided to open up to have a look... Will wait for YTbers review before I decided what to do with it...

Out of the box I have no complain over the build quality but definitely looking forward to try other setup!

Questions - how do you guys store the switches and keycaps / accessories?

right haha i'm glad that it's still available as an option, at good price point also tbh

the better key layout for me is still 64-key 60%, with arrow keys. i use almost all the keys daily with that layout.

Yeah that is my next step but have been procrastinating it. I like the smaller footprint of the Q2 in terms of looks but as a Mac/Windows user (my Q1 now is connected to both my Mac and PC via a USB switcher) I find that I need the function keys whenever I am using my Mac especially when it comes to the shortcuts.

Morning all, wanna ask the Bluetooth wireless mechanical keyboard....Does it have any delay? Like Royal Kludge or Keychron. For an example, does it switch off/go to sleep and then when i click only it wakes up and connect back to the bluetooth? So there will be like a few seconds delay? I heard that Royal Kludge 2.4G connection is bad and cannot be far away from each other. Is it true?

I don't want wired keyboard cause my PC is placed on a different table than my screen.

When I used the Keychron with both my Mac and PC (using a bluetooth dongle) via bluetooth there wasn't any lag when in operation. But when it comes to operation from sleep mode, yes, I experienced it with the Mac once in a while. I got used to it already.

I use RKG68 on bluetooth. During use no delay, but of course when it go to sleep there is the reconnection lag (a second or so). This is unavoidable with battery based, unless you can find a keyboard using BLE to maintain consistent connection without going to sleep.

This is not an issue for me because I type consistently, but if you're going to be typing sometimes and then leave it a long while and don't want a short time when it needs to wake up and reconnect, highly suggest wired (you can use USB extension for example to cross the tables).

Have you tested it with PC? so the lag only comes from the wake up ya?

Have you tried it with the 2.4G adapter?
