hi sifus, can you have some suggestions for accomodation in Tokyo. Suburb is ok as long as have train / mrt to central tokyo (within 45 minutes ?);

thinking of youth hostel with room for 4 pax (so on the budget side)

- early Feb 2023. (yes, its gonna be really cold. lol)
- 4 pax
- first time to Tokyo. look see, eat ramen, perhaps ski (if not too expensive).

i had a look at Airbnb. RM280 to RM350 seems to have some choices.

Appreciate all advice

- where else should i start looking for accomodation ?
- which suburb is a good for touristy stay

thank you sir

whoa be prepared man for Japan winter laugh.gif it was brutal last in Osaka in Feb, i think 0-2C most of the time even in city

for the accom it depends on what type your gang will be focused on? for my case accom at places i visit are just places to shower, sleep, keep luggage, so i dont spend alot on the best looking or most comfy. i will be out like almost 12hrs daily, so its a waste if book nice hotels

as for which suburb best to stay, pick those near train stations or those near your main base of travel. like for eg. if you plan to tackle Shibuya the most, find accom around there or within a station or two away from there. youll thank me when you need pull luggage over roads for 30mins searching where is the stay haha. japanese addresses can be very confusing

Ski will be too expensive for you since you are on budget. Forget about it.
Accommodation part, Airbnb are your only choice. Hotel will needed open 2 room because Japan are very strict on 2 pax one room policy.

If you don't mind suburb side, can stay at Takao area. Morning can hike the famous Takao mountain which I normally hike during weekends whenever I stay at Tokyo. From Takao to Tokyo (Shijuku Station) by Keio Takao Line Limited Express Train / Rapid Train. Journey about 1 hour. If you wanted to feel the real Tokyo vibe, this is a good start.

Japan are not friendly to Malaysian wallet. Ringgit are too low. A 3 days Tokyo wide pass ( https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2361_06.html ) will worth it if u plan to travel far to Mt. Fuji, sking at Gala Yuzawa and Samurai town "Nikko". The pass are Jpy10,180 with unlimited travel on shinkansen and JR trains for 3 consecutive days

There are plenty of nice food around Tokyo but famous food will not be cheap.

Wagyu are really worth it in Tokyo compared to Malaysia. (highly recommend Seiyuxan restaurant near Shimbashi Station)

Things must try when in Japan:
1) Tempura shop (quality a lot better than the best u had in Malaysia)
2) Grill Unagi
3) A5 Wagyu beef + beef tongue BBQ
4) Sashimi n grill fish roe (Tarako Yaki)
5) Ichiran Ramen

For budget meal:
Yoshinoya, Sukiya and Song wu. All 3 have good value set meal (they have english menu for ordering)

When the sun sets, temperature drops very fast. Be prepared and bring extra clothing if u plan to stay out until late

Yes. But Yen to MYR exchange rates are way lower nowadays. Previously before the pandemic is was 1000 Yen = RM39. Now only Rm32. So yeah...

that depends on your flight segment destination

if your segment indicate the ending destination is not the place you're transiting then there's no need to come out and check-in again

there are 2 good offer to go Japan now....

One is Via Scoot, midnight ride to Jap......come back via AA
All in all, ~RM1000 + ~RM1000 = about RM2000 round trip. hav to buy 2 times la

Another is via Manila Air, midnight ride to Jap, come back via AA.

btw, anyone now how the transit works for Scoot?
Do i need to pickup and check-in again at SG airport?
*
From KL to SG by Scoot also?
If you going SG by Scoot / SIA then you no need recheck in again because all under one umbrella / code sharing. Your luggage tag will destination airport which is Tokyo Narita. Once you reach Singapore Changi, just follow the Transit sign !! Not the Arrival Sign!! Transit Sign will guide you to Transit hall

From KL to SG by AirAsia / MAS / Firefly...etc etc......then you need pickup luggage ...go through Singapore Kastam then go Departure Hall and check in at Scoot counter...then go thru kastam again.....

This depends airlines policy. When you check in at KL, can ask the staff.

The Airlines I know so far which you can't leave the Terminal during Transit are China Southern Airlines, EVA Airways & United Airlines.

Now heading Haneda feel more "Atas" because currently Haneda just open for Premium Airlines.
Narita good also, no need rush for Haneda last train.
