hi...
new one here..

i wanna change my old amd 3500+ system..
but need some advise from all sifus here..
1. better take an e6550 (us94) or e6750@us104 or just jump to q6600@us146.
2. im really wanna OC those CPU (not extreme), so whats the cheapest but okay mobo should i get..
3. can i just take those KVR ram or opt for some performance ram.
4. do i need to change my stock HSF if wanna OC the Q6600.

pls advise..

If I were you, I'll spend on the new 45nm instead of the quads. You should get a better HSF is you intend to overclock - more voltage leads to added heat biggrin.gif

Yeah, like clawhammer said, you should go for penryn instead.

Unless of course, you're looking for cheap 2nd hand CPUs..... or unless you need a cheap quad...

Frankly speaking, the difference between KVR rams and high performance rams are small.... if you are tight on your budget, KVR rams should be adequate... although the may limit you OC somewhat...

Definitely need better 3rd party HSF is you want to Oc.....

OK,easy.Set the ram strap to 1:1,ram timing to 5-5-5-15,ram voltage to 2.05v.Then go to enter 400fsb,increase vcore to 1.26ish,sure working. brows.gif Like that can do 3.2,limit should be 4ghz if board is good enough. brows.gif brows.gif

I have an aging E6600 L710A811 On intel HSF (Planning of course to buy a better one..see how far and safe i can get with stock hsf)
And just bought a foxconn mars .....odin pro 550w.
I'll follow the noob thread and post my findings here..LOL....

Looking at the ranks, theres no one using mars.....

Mars better than IP35 Pro dude?
Hmm, quad has better benchies but I am not sure in the real life application though.

Depends which area we're talking about. 500FSB is a lot easier with MARS than IP35-PRO but IP35-PRO has more voltages settings and better board layout smile.gif

you will need around 1.45V to be at least able to do 440Mhz on the FSB. and a bump on the Vnb and put a fan on the NB. Check your heat dissipation on the proc as well.

now im putting Vnb @ 1.25..how much higher should i put?? the next level is 1.4v, isn't that a little too high??
for now, i dont think i have a problem with temp, idle around 26-30c running @ 3.36Ghz
i will try increasing the Vcore again then

maranello55, you can just try bit by bit. Normally you can already OC by adding some FSB without having to increase the voltages.

v1rtual, when you lower your multi and maintain the same FSB (420Mhz), is it stable? If it's not, the motherboard voltages or RAMs are having issues, not the CPU. If it's stable, move the multiplier back to 8 x 420 and increase Vcore. 1.425V isn't a lot because after the vdroop, it's probably ~ 1.35
