Just finished setting up my new rig. Remember when we were wondering whether the E6x50 series were giving wrong core temperature?

Well, I didn't have time to test it fully yet but it looks like some apps are giving inaccurate temp.

On my E6750 + stock heatsink + GA-P35-DS3:
Core temp (v0.94) at load (orthos) : 43'c
Easytune5 at load (orthos) : 49'c

The Easytune5 app came with the mobo. It is consistently registering 6'c higher than core temp.

I remember irenic's E6850 giving a load temp of 51'c at 4.0Ghz (stock heatsink) which I thought a bit too low.

Anybody can confirm this? What CPU temp monitoring apps are you all using for the E6x50 series? Wanna get the core temperature correct first before I start to overclock this baby..... laugh.gif

Going to test with other apps (e.g. speedfan) tomorrow after work......

ive used asus probe, speedfan, coretemp, rivatuner (CPU plugin), and everest. all registered the same temp.

idle stock everythin; cpu 35C core0 25C core1 19C

That's what I mean..... core1 at 19'c??!?? rclxub.gif

E6850 testing 3.80GHz 1.49v Orthos, Scythe Ninja. Asus Probe 63°C and CoreTemp (0.95) 54°C.... Accurate i believe smile.gif
*
Errr.... can you clarify that? How can it be accurate when there is a 9'c difference? hmm.gif

QUOTE(irangan @ Jul 25 2007, 12:59 AM)

If u not sure which app is more accurate, always trust the one that record higher temp smile.gif

Anyway, I am quite sure that coretemp got problem detecting the correct temp for E6*50 proc. Anyway, I am using Asus Probe II
*
No necessarily as Rightmark CPU clock showed 6'c higher than easytuner5 which is 6'c higher than core temp!! rclxub.gif

I guess I still have to wait for newer apps that truly support these procs and will show the correct temp...... sad.gif

Those with E6750, mind giving some feedback on your OC?

So far, at stock 1.35v, I'm able to boot at 3280Mhz and also orthos stable.

Going to go for higher vcore later..... (anybody knows the safe voltage for running 24/7?)

some of us just dont have such luck in getting processors...
my first e6850 cant even oc to 3.2Ghz using 1.39vcore.

rma the proc and got another proc with the same batch (L720Axxx). no doubt it's slightly better than my first e6850, but still cant fully load to windows at 4.0Ghz 1.60vcore. the weird this is, it doesnt BSOD or POST fail, it just stops loading the OS services. mouse and keyboard are still responding thou....
*
You sure it is the CPU and not the mobo/ram? Intel's CPUs are supposed to be able to OC more than that! 3.0Ghz to 3.2Ghz only is strange.....

My E6750 can go from 2.66 to 3.28Ghz at stock voltages (1.35v). Haven't tried higher vcore yet....

prolly my oc skills sux... but i set every damn voltage (cpu, sb, nb, vtt, 1.2vht) to 1.6v already. ram left at stock 5-5-5-18 2T 400mhz. tried both 500x8 and 445x9... no luck.

who wants to volunteer to test out my proc?  whistling.gif
*
What rams are you using? What's the vdimm? Try to set the rams to DDR2-667 speed.

I don't think you have to do anything to the voltages yet. Most of the time, you can OC the CPU without touching any voltages. It is only if you want to go higher, then you start to increase the voltages.

It is probably not your CPU, considering that you set the vcore to 1.6v. That's high!!!! rclxub.gif

Me! Me! I can test your proc for you! nod.gif But I'm in Kuching la...... difficult.... Or you want to exchange proc? whistling.gif

im using crucial ballistix pc6400 400mhz (800 effective) @ 2.225vdimm. 1.6vcore is just one-off testing for 4Ghz setup.

prolly you are right. 2 units of e6850 failed to OC under my rig did make it clear that sumthin is not right with my rig. but what would it be? i hv no problem oc my prev proc using the same system.

Kuching? sorry dude, me passport expired dy...  blush.gif
*
Yeah, same ram as mine. Wah, already set to 2.225v ka? For my rams, at 5-5-5-15, 2T at 2.0v, can already go up to 1150Mhz. So I don't think you need to set the ram vdimm so high at 800Mhz. I was actually running my rams at 4-4-4-12, 2T at 800Mhz at 1.8v. Now still finding out the limits for these nice rams.....

If you have been Ocing your previously proc, then I guess you know how to overclock......Anyway, not too sure why you can't OC your CPU. I'm also still new to C2D and still learning the proper way of overclocking C2D.

@kmarc,
i'm in UNIMAS, samarahan. if can test, remember me ya hehe
btw, is your proc orthos stable after OC? 3.2Ghz seem bit too low le. aim for 4Ghz and higher la thumbup.gif
*
Ya, I didn't have time to OC further as I'm in Sibu now. Only had 1 day to play with my new rig. Can't wait to get back to kuching!!!

3.2Ghz is only at stock vcore. I have yet to increase the vcore.

Not much time to play with the rams too. Will test further when I get back. For me, I prefer every component to be stable, at least orthos and superPI stable.

Why not increase your Vdimm to 2.0v? I mean, these rams are rated at 2.2v max and warranty covers until that high anyway. I'm probably going to find a sweet spot for 2.0-2.1v vdimm.....

Here's mine doing stress test at stock 1.35v. Notice the supposedly CPU temp at 55'c on stock heatsink!!! sweat.gif

Don't dare increase the vcore until I get my new heatsink.

Quite a bad vdroop though, about 0.03v drop at full load (is this acceptable???)

See my stock NB temp at 41'c only.... biggrin.gif

suicidal settings.
vcore 1.6
nb 1.6
1.2VHT 1.6
sb 1.6
CPU VTT 1.55 (already max)
Wah! So high settings! You could probably get better superPI if you tighten your ram timings.

See my modest OC on stock heatsink. Can't OC much until I get my xigmatek cooler.

My rams are also Crucial ballistix PC6400 running at 4-4-4-8, 2T, 2.1v at 960Mhz......

I don't think you need to increase your vMCH at all. My P35-DS3 can go up to a bus speed of 480mhz without any increase in vMCH or vFSB.... Can't go any higher probably due to my CPU FSB wall..... sad.gif

Ya lo, if want higher OC on the bus speed, should migrate to P35. My Gigabyte P35-DS3 (value for money performance mobo) can OC to a bus speed of 480mhz without any voltages adjustment (either vMCH or vFSB)!!!! smile.gif

and u guys think P5K Deluxe is a good mobo compared to P35 DQ6?

guys, between abit p35-e and gigabyte p35-ds3, which one should i go for?
budget is RM430 max.

i'm choosing for a friend and gonna pair it with E6750 or E6550 ...
any comments on these two boards?
dun feel like letting him use 965 chipsets anymore lah
*
I have seen forumers recommending the abit IP35-E. As far as I know, this mobo doesn't come with full solid caps and only support DDR2-800 (this is the specs on their website). Take a look at their website to see the specs.

I still recommend the P35-DS3. I consider this mobo as a cheap value-for-money performance mobo. Full solid caps and supports DDR2-1066.

For my mobo, can overclock the bus speed to 480mhz without increasing the voltages!!! smile.gif

Yeah, it is known that 0.95 has some problems, usually causing BSOD or computer restart. Get the 0.95.4 as suggested, much more stable....

i mean the brand of ram.. and the timing.. smile.gif

Hehe, was just pulling your leg because your question was too general.... icon_rolleyes.gif

It depends on whether you want to OC your rams or not. If you want normal rams for normal usage, then value rams DDR2-667 2x1gb would be enough....

If you want performance rams, then the general advice is go for DDR2-800 2x1gb 4-4-4-12 timings.... However, this is only a general advice, the better way to look for OC rams are those with the following chipsets - micron D9 e.g. D9GKX or D9GMH....

In terms of brand, any well-known ram manufacturers are acceptable e.g. OCZ, corsair, crucial, patriot, etc. Personally, if you ask me, I would go for crucial ballistix rams, they are relatively cheaper for high-performance rams, acceptable quality, and great overclockers!!! smile.gif
