There's one problem with that... MYTV Advance STB which supports smart card and access control doesn't have HEVC.
Yup, this is an issue too. Although it has a card slot, it is very likely that this box will be excluded from receiving Pay TV system anyway in the future, as the newer MYTV Basic T2 boxes and T2/S2 combo boxes which has HEVC, uses cardless system.

The MYTV advance box isn't free at all.... cost RM187 for 1 of it

Ya from what you explained before, astro setup seems too complicated. For Unifi TV, all live tv, VOD, EPG, system updates are on the same VLAN600. Any router that can tag VLAN on WAN port and untag VLAN on a LAN port and just bridge all traffic between them can be used. That means virtually all Asus, TP-link, D-link, Mikrotik, Ubiquiti routers as well as routers with custom firmwares.
Yup, I wonder what's Astro thinking with this setup? Maybe they are trying to force their IPTV customer to use their trash router? Even ultra box isn't supported on Astro IPTV as of now, and IPTV customers only get to choose between 30 and 100 Mbps, no 300mbps++ speed.....

Only a few tens of thousands of users are using S2/T2 box. But there are millions of users using T2-only box, and for MYTV, Botato and Greenpacket brands, it is DVB-T2 only and up to H.264 only.
Just imagine how disaster would it be if MYTV change all channels to HEVC video codec, like right now, or even within this year. Things are not as simple as changing some settings with just a few mouse clicks.
Eh no worry, just made a seperate mux for HEVC only channels.

Good info. Is this basic box available for sale? No point getting the advance box which cost more but function the same.

Nope, the MYTV basic box is only available for BSH recipient, you can get alternative brands such as botato, green packet for a way cheaper price..... the botato one last I check is at rm60, but does fluctuate throughout the year apparently( the price was last checked Jan 2020)
If MYTV implements ATSC3.0, we can see the sunset of NJOI and Astro?

😅, turns out we are using PAL during the analog era?
If MYTV implements UHD then I guess we would see the sunset of Astro and NJOI but I don’t think this will happen anytime soon
Malaysia uses British system, so it will stick to PAL systems and DVB-T2, which is commonly used in many countries around the world.
Malaysia implement ATSC 3.0? I doubt that very much. MYTV Broadcasting isn't making profit also. Still want to talk about 4K UHD broadcasts via DTT? We can only dream about it.

Are the Malaysian TV producers equiped for UHD output?
