If MYTV implements ATSC3.0, we can see the sunset of NJOI and Astro?

*
As far as I know, ATSC is only for US and South Korea. DVB-T2 already can do what ATSC 3 can do. ATSC is behind DVB before this ATSC 3.

Malaysia uses British system, so it will stick to PAL systems and DVB-T2, which is commonly used in many countries around the world.

Malaysia implement ATSC 3.0? I doubt that very much.
MYTV Broadcasting isn't making profit also. Still want to talk about 4K UHD broadcasts via DTT? We can only dream about it.
*
Yup, DVB is an international standard(heard more about DVB than ATSC), looks like ATSC standard only implemented in few countries only

Are the Malaysian TV producers equiped for UHD output?
*
Maybe not yet, Astro has 1 rojak UHD channel, CH780 and there's one made in Malaysia UHD content coming soon

QUOTE(joshhd @ Mar 6 2020, 04:06 PM)
Yeah... And Astro is persuading those advertisers to take this opportunity to annoy the viewers with their ads too.

On the image above, you can see the "Pricing Category of A12", that category costs RM17,000 for 30 seconds slot.

oh, if this the case then we'll probably won't see it anytime soon... even NJOI doesn't have any HD content for free so MYTV is probably not in a rush for UHD/HD content

You cannot see the pixels on a 60" 4K TV, so UHD is rather pointless in most peoples houses.
HDR done properly is more interesting, but does require a much higher bitrate than any Malaysian broadcaster use

For HEVC 50fps, what video bitrate you think is enough?

Depends on image content, amount of motion, encoder used, bitrate mode and encoding mode/settings.

Then what's the maximum video bitrate you would think it's enough, especially during fast motion scenes?

And what encoding mode and settings you'd like them to use?

Oh, in that case:

6Mbps for 1080i
16Mbps for UHD.

For 4K HDR... Around 20Mbps with x265 encoder in two-pass high quality variable bitrate mode probably... But likely won't be possible for broadcast which requires real-time encoding and usually constant bitrate.

Netflix probably uses x264 encoder in variable bitrate mode for 1080p60 videos in AVC codec and they use bitrates beyond 7.25Mbps for some TV shows with lots of motion.

For 1080i50 broadcast, I would like 8-10Mbps constant bitrate for channels with lots of motion unless they use a very good encoder then can lower bitrate.

Tell us here no point one.

Ask Media Prima instead, why is all Media Prima channels (TV3, NTV7, 8TV and TV9) is still in SD quality on Astro, and when will HD quality available? You complain to Astro also, they'll probably just close one eye, and move on to other complaint cases.
