through my web research + visit over 8 audio accessories shop, i found out current trend is using android HU 10"..
and their design (internal system and external display) more or less has the same character across the brand.

so, my question is:

Any of you currently using android HU player ? How was your experience after using it for 1-2 years?
Any recommendation / advice for others that going to install / looking for android player head unit?

maybe you want to give some background on your preference and your intend to use Android based HU?

Sound quality no matter how still proper HU (pioneer, kenwood, alpine, jvc etc) wins, but their OS is big let down vs android

Is like those days cpu era, built in realtek vs dedicated creative/asus soundcard..

done many, user interface all more or less

some 2xx some 8xx

if u follow us on fb will see we do sell a few range

if ask what diff , spec wise more or less same the usual bt, dual usb 1 + 16 n etc

come test and u will understand

i am using one for almost 2 years now.
get min 2gb of ram.
if u plan to install alot of apps and keep alot of movie then get 32gb

i just use for spotify, waze and sometimes youtube

perfect for my usage.

sound quality is Ok but not outstanding.

i added amp and it just get better

ok done install

so far everything is good and functioning as expected.

I'm still using my original Head Unit.
Android HU connect to my original HU via aux.
Sound quality from android is good and perform well. didn't expect for that

How much and the size of it?

I don't think the sound quality has anything to do with your Android HU since it's your stock HU that process and play the music... depend on your Android unit DAC, you might get even better sound quality if you stream the music via bluetooth. Best if your stock HU accept USB connection and your Android unit has USB output.

I know its android, and the last thing I want is having lags during driving

RM1150 for player only. I've added few items:
- Casing for my car model
- reverse camera
- front camera
- switcher (to switch camera front & back)

total is rm1600

Yah i know i'm using stock HU for sound.

Android HU got DSP which is giving me more option to tweak on bass and treble in detail.

How do i cast/connect my phone to HU? My unit most of the time hard to get GPS signal because "cold start" parking in basement.
So thought can cast from phone easier.

What app can i use? Using android phone btw.

android auto has limited functionality. if you ok with that, you can go with branded HU like alpine / JVC / pioneer.

meanwhile Android HU = tablet android. you can do everything with this HU. surf internet, watch youtube, stream tv, facebooking, etc.

Which HU are you using now?
my GPS works fine. once open accessories mode, click navigation and the map is ready to use.
or maybe i'm staying in landed area

i see. i no plan do all this inside car lol. but if android HU i can share my phone hotspot, or now unit can plug in simcard? any decent one to intro? I worry alot android HU sound quality not so good like those branded HU.. my clarion HU macam got problem oledi.. but upgrade 2din HU kinda expensive for branded one.. sony need around 1.2k minimum

If i'm not mistaken, joying is not available in malaysian market / car accessories in kl as from my observation

Easy connection is a ready apps in my HU.
which android version are you using now? is it 8.1?
if not in the apps list, try download it via google play in your HU.
then install on mobile phone.

not all android phone are supported. some models need to use wired connection



It does have wifi connection to connect from your mobile hotspot.

yah.. all the features i've mentioned previously is more to gimmick / selling point.
I'm not fall into that gimmick
but when I tried branded HU such as JVC and pioneer, i can see the lag-iness when scrolling / play around . which made me feel confuse because their price is higher than android HU, but their version is older (android 6 and below) and not smooth.

I've got the same feeling as you about sound quality before install this android HU. but my unit come with DSP and i can tweak EQ even more from original HU.
some android HU didn't have DSP , therefore you have limited range to adjust your EQ.

Android Auto limited functionality is there for a reason -- safety.
Surfing internet, watching yuotube, streaming tv, facebooking, etc. are things you SHOULD NOT be doing when you are driving.

Mine got 1GB+16GB Memory, good enough for youtube (slow abit, but RM170...no complaint there~) sound wise ok la~ standard sepeker~ Navi donwloaded Waze~ useable and not bad~ gps locking quite fast~ downside~ things slow a bit at times. must close other apps to run new faster~

Yup, price had dropped tremendously...when i first got my unit 2 years ago...with 1GB then, they were priced at 2.5k

depends on what you are using it for. I prefer ANdroid, because use them for family travels long distance and keeps kids occupied, either youtube, or video, video music using thumbdrive.

More over I do use it for skype for business mainly for my conference calls...since I'm on the road...

I have seen some does it via wifi and some via usb....but most of the time its either not stable or version issue on phone or the HU

Generallry I use hotspot...but in your case, if your gps is getting slower, it could be memory issue as well.

Ya, for basic usage its fine...but anything more, bare minimum is 2GB, better still get the 4Gb. I have recently upgraded to 2GB...since skype for business had stopped working due to version upgrade. 1GB ram was not sufficient...gonna try selling it off...hmmm is possible

Android version do also come with basic auto configuration, hence its helpful as well. And they can read off the canbus to read out your ECU readings and car status

If using android based HU I think you can buy a Bluetooth OBD2 scanner to plugin and then install the app like Torque to read the data off the scanner.

Yeah, maybe once I need more power option, might upgrade, for now, I have everything needed for entertaintment~ everything else got my Phone above it.

sadly they don't have 4gb Ram 64gb Rom.

It depends... 2GB ram is enough for like 3-4 apps running (1 Front and 3 background)

for 16GB version.... I did consider 32 or 64 then the guy said my unit come with 2 USB and I can extend the storage to 128 with a tumbdrive with Android Pie (9) with shared storage format...

come with DSP paired with stock speaker it sound amazing (no woofer yet)... dont think I need it...

Overall apps quite snappy... switch between apps no issue... Waze + Spotify running no issue...

If its OBD...then either...if your car comes with CanBus...then it auto reads, there is an advance setting to select it.

ELse, you can get a OBD2 device (pretty cheap, less than RM50), they come either via Bluetooth or wifi. Then install any reading tool like Torque...

If its canbus....it reads, your door, and other sensors (seat belt, etc)

Most of Android unit should be able to do that. The brand I use is Convex

Try those Cortex A7 and above.... PX50 seems good PX30 OK laaaaa

Get Ram2GB above ROM no need since you will not be downloading games and apps... mainly you get is youtube, netflix, spotify, waze, google maps... enough already... if you want watch movies use tumbdrive I actually mount a SSD Harddisk external drive 128GB inside my glove compartment for movies hahaha

All wiring will follow stock... if want to add camera the accessories shop need to pull cable and run camera to front and back lor... if front dashcam then easy back reverse camera also easy... your steering control will work as well... you will need a case to mount the 10"

No lag it is basically a USB3.0 speed

Can stream any 1080p will good enough since screen resolution not so high...

I use SSD cause I have a spare SSD at home 128gb you can use any usb drive or thumbdrive will work...

Is data safe on these Android HU? I mean can others go to your Chrome browser and read off your passwords or access to your apps when you send in your car for service? Pretty scary!

I dont use radio.... if required I use the App by the radio more clear also I use spotify can use free maaa with Ads laaaa

Youtube usually play at below 720p default (dont know why) I manually adjust to 720P or 1080p quality is great

if u did not prefer onscreen keyboard, then share screen will be more practical for you then
share screen is a no no for me since it will drain my handphone battery and potential for screen burn in a long run

I think It is possible to connect but must be tapping the wire though.

my android HU is connected to original car HU (means that i have 2 HU in the car).
so, any sound from the android HU will go through via original HU then to the speaker.

Android HU is a Android-based HU while Android Auto is an App.
Android is an open-source OS, anyone could customise it to your own liking as long as you have the capability to do it.

Just bought an android head unit. Not sure what brand. Do they come with a fader option? Could not find it in the settings.

Each Android unit has its own configuration depending on the brand provider. Try looking for sound setting or amplifier

currently, best android head unit hardware is rock chip px6 with android 9.0 OS

Besides, i worry that 7inch PX6 HU cant fit into bezza original non screen type HU.

i just replaced my stocked HU to 9inch Android HU, by some unknown China brand, true 2GB RAM 32GB rom, Android 9. RAM checked and verified by CPU-X and MemoryInfo app.

Cost me RM365. So far the radio reception is clear, and can play netflix, astro on the go, etc.

But, just like handphone, this thing after 1-2 year need to be replaced bcos of OS and app compatibility, so imho no need to spent so much on it.

Should be a good price. i got it at RM480 2gb...

i tink might last longer if u plan to play youtube or navi only.

My friend installed 3 years ago, mainly for spotify and youtube use. 1gb ram 16gb rom, not sure about CPU. It is still not lagging yet.

Where else another friend install same android player half year ago, now it started lagging, even processing the reverse cam.

1gb around 200+ is reasonable
2gb close to 400
While 4gb close to 800..

It doubles up. 4gb might be the normal spec in years to come so don't invest too much I guess... The screen might not last 10yrs ... Probably 5 years time need to look for replacement

Cogoo 1gb already rm498 for 10in, 2gb rm598, last time selling even rm1100 2 years ago.

I still thinking whether go for cogoo, warranty of the player also quite funny, different seller can give warranty from 1month to 2 years.

i think if you're convenient get from One Biz. else probably look for other similar as cogoo...

you need to install fm signal booster at the back of the HU. Can order online and the price is ranging from rm20 - 30.

signal booster never work. i even installed new radio reception antenna, grounding cables, etc.
main issue is HU, need to get an android HUwith a good radio chip which cost more and hard to find, than normal roadmark or some other cheap brands android HU.

Android 10 is the latest system for Car stereo.

I have used two car stereos in the past 2 years. I tried the alpine double din car stereo for my audi and then I turned to the XTRONS PQ series which have more features including HDMI, Bluetooth 5.0, car auto play and so on.

If I can only recommend one stereo only, I would recommend XTRONS. It is designed by a UK team.

I installed the booster and reception improved a lot vs without one. But still, at some area I am having noisy channels. Now, I am using the radio apps to play all my fav stations. It doesn't require speedy data, 3G is sufficient to enjoy the musics.

same as me, i installed booster the reception got better when stationary. when the car moving it goes back to normal.
spent too much on these and end up using own mobile phone and play radio stations through bluetooth, sound quality is superb.

im using PX6 android player 4GB RAM and 64GB storage with Android 9 bought via shopee. No issue with radio reception crystal sound. So far no issue with performance can Netflix, youtube and etc.

Hi all, any good place or Android HU to recommend? Realised most of the sellers are not able to tell what are the CPU, GPU and RAM used in the HU. Most of them are just telling 2+32.... Hence am quite sceptical with the quality of the HU in the long run.

Knowing that Dasaita / Xtrons should be the best Android HU currently, is any of the work shop in KL selling it? Can't really seems to find one.

Why dont fix at the place that you buy?

rm1.7k seems to be a little pricier end....but then depends on you...if you want then nothing wrong in getting it.

Previously I bought one from lazada. First 1 year good. 2nd year it spoil my speaker . Now everytime there sound I will hear a loud sharp spike sound.

I got similar above but under diff brand. Its a 2gb 16gb with dsp.
If u enjoy audio quality, do get with dsp its very good.
Overall its very good, only downside is the radio reception is weak. Need to install booster.

From my experience, do get it install at accessory shop with warranty. Getting from online will hv risk if the unit is faulty. I got mine in the morning, at night the rear cam blank screen. Got it 1 to 1 changed next day

Most non branded are OEMs, I would recommend to check online like lazada shopee for good pricing and then get local installer to install them.

Unless you get similar price in-store.

Future, if you want to use multiple application on the HU, then get 4GB RAM. 2GB works fine if you are using for basic, such as radio, phone connection, and navigation.
