My StashAway (SRI36) FIRE FUND has dipped y-o-y but this is in tandem with the year 2022 that has not been kind to most investors overall. Perhaps my expectations for StashAway to do better has been ill-placed as I expected at least +8% CAGR at the beginning of 2022 rather than -11% y-o-y losses for 2022. Still I am a firm believer that time in the market >> timing the market. Let's hope that StashAway (& the global markets) will in better in 2023 and beyond despite a looming recession underway.

KWEB is going back up since China open. Maybe can put in some Stashaway now. I am glad I have exited earlier when things starting to go south.

Still, I can't say that I'm not disappointed with StashAway as I bought into their claims of their back-testing for Y2008 scenario during the peak of the US subprime mortgage crises & global recession where StashAway supposedly would have made double digit returns of +11.6% over a 3 year period after the crash. So I guess we have about two years or so to see if StashAway is able to deliver on those double digit returns or not.

Stashaway ETFs are similar to unit trust funds managed by fund managers. Prior to 2022, the world has 10 years of low interest rates environment where there are free flow of cheap monies. The back testing done is useless because no funds / ETFs had ever gone through high interest rates/inflations. 10 years later, almost all countries are highly indebted and with US stop printing its currency and raising interest rates to tame inflation, other countries have no choice but to follow. My question is which fund managers perform when inflation is high? NONE. What more past records are not indicative of future performance. In addition, with high inflation resulting in higher costs, rising borrowings resulted in higher interest expenses, which company's profit will increase? That's why you keep reading news on companies downsizing or reducing staff to cut costs. Unless you short the market for 2022, you will be having unrealised losses as well.

Sorry to say that 2022 was the year to buy quality and value π€¦ββοΈI made gains of 8% on my diy portfolio buying good quality and value companies rather than shorting itself Remember the saying past performance doesnβt indicate future performance hence most backtesting are just hypothetical modelling into future scenario Always look for future anticipation rather than past performance diggle123 liked this post
