Depends on the market value when the sell order is executed it might be higher or lower on the the day when the sell order is executed
Like I said go check this week rate and you will know because you are investing small sum hence you are not exposed for conversion losses
Yes this after deducting 1% in cash and the missing 0.5% is because forex conversion on the volatility of exchange rate

If you check on your MYR and USD and you will realise the difference in the % of the performance which accounts for it as the range will be 0.12 to 0.5% on depending on the time horizon

Why don't you show your numbers?

you said it yourself, that RM411 becomes US$99.28 and I consider that a "small sum".

How do I go check this weeks rates? I mean Sunday, Monday, Tuesday already 3 days. Who's ACTUAL Transaction shows RM411 became US$99.28? Did it actually happen? What is the date, actually? If it happened, yes, perhaps 0.88 % exchange rate is allegedly charged, but again, who actually encountered this?

I have checked through almost my entire portfolio spanning years and have not come up with 1 time when I see any conversion becoming worse than 0.15% and that's because I may be refering to BNM rates, while SA may have referred to some others. In any instance of high or low amount of money converted (3 digit to 4 digit USD) all can be reconciled in USD terms at 0.1% to 0.15%.

Since I don't want to list out my entire transaction records of everything, let me just show the newest one which is rather simple (new portfolio started from 12 April)

DATE TYPE AMOUNT STATUS

13-Apr-21 Currency conversion $24.95  Rate delta : 0.16%
RM103.30, Actual FX Rate: 0.2415 (Reference BNM rates : 0.2419)
13-Apr-21 Deposit RM103.30
13-Apr-21 Deposit $1,200.00

In easy terms: Total deposited USD1224.95, coming from $1200 (transferred from another portfolio) + RM103.30 (Converted at 0.16% loss vs spot rate = $24.95)

Purchased ETF's at 1122.19+82.24+7.71 = $1212.14
Cash retained $12.81
Total deposited = US$1224.95 reconciled.

All adds up. The only conversion is charged at Spot rate - 0.16%
*
You just multiply Rate delta it will add up already for every usd100 you are losing usd 0.10 on top of the spot rates which adds up to your case another -0.1% conversion losses

If compounded to usd1000 is another -0.22% on the conversion losses

You can check on myr and usd holdings from the difference in percentage since your frequent buyer as on 36% there will be gap of 1% at the moment

There's forex exchange fee when SA convert to USD, and forex fluctuations, and units themselves fluctuates in price.

SA isn't guaranteed nett positive gains unless you wait at least 3 to 4 years. Even then if market kaput you might dip below your nett deposit amount anyway, as it happened during 2018 trade war crash and March 2020 pandemic crash.

I don’t mind putting in long term, like 3-5 years. Just curious only, I initially thought the Rm1.06 is some kind of service charge. Lol.

Yea it’s meant to be dump and forget. Hehe

Takes time la, and market conditions.

See here one of my newer portfolios bouncing up and down the first 3 months of this year 🤣 For higher SRIs especially need to get used to seeing the green line do rollercoaster haha

Gains are never guaranteed. SA's main strength if anything is that you are simply not likely to lose very much. For investments like these, none of us can see the future.

That's the characteristic of investing in ETF.
In normal circumstances, it won't lose very much but also won't gain as much as stocks. It just average of hundred or thousand of stocks. Good thing is, the fee is lowest among UT and stocks. And you can sleep well at night.

Risk and return from high to low:
Stocks --> UT --> ETF --> Bonds --> MMF --> FD

You need to know what you are buying, which is a basket of etfs which are mostly stocks, a lot of it concentrated in US and some in China, and some Gold.

1 years, 2 years still not a long enough time to "guarantee" profit. A better way to look at it is you won't be far off from the broad market like S&p500.
