So how does it work withdrawing from Japan ATM? Just look for the VISA/Mastercard logo?

Has anyone used their Maybank Visa Debit Card to withdraw cash in Japan ATM? How`s the rate like?

For example 10,000 yen now is around RM385. I guess around RM8 will be deducted from Maybank and the exchange rate follow the  Selling TT/OD rate of  `Foreign Exchange Counter Rates`?

You probably get better rates from using BigPay

Thanks. I have never heard of BigPay but just read its FAQ. So basically I transfer RM20 to my BigPay account and I will receive the BigPay card in my Malaysian home address, then I bring this card to Japan and can withdraw yen in ATM in Japan?

Current exchange rate are Rm384.3 for 10000 Yen
Maybank Rate are Rm391.00 for 10000 Yen
Maybank charge Rm6.7 as service fees

Another problem that I think of. Maybank pin normally has 6 digit while ATM in Japan offer 4 digits pin only. How to deal with this?

Most of Japan ATM machine does no accept Oversea atm card. Only Post Office and some 7-11 have ATM machine that accept oversea card.
Those accept oversea card machine can key in 6 pin (South East Asia) or 4 pin (US, Europe card) smile.gif

Yeap, but u need pre-load your BigPay from either ur banking account or credit card.

go to Japan and just withdraw from any ATM (since most ATM support the Mastercard Cirrus network). Preferably 7-11 Sevenbank ATM since there won't be extra charges (beside BigPay RM10)

Hi all. I will touchdown at Tokyo at 22:30. I assume with custom clearance, baggage collection and all might take another 1 hour plus.

Feel waste if I check in to hotel so late. Not sure got train at that time or not. Are we allowed to sleep at airport so I can check in to my hotel the next day instead?

My itinerary is for 10days. Plan to stay in tokyo for 5-6 days and the rest in fukuoka. Will be back to KL from fukuoka.
What is the best public transport pass to get for tokyo travel, tokyo to fukuoka, fukuoka travel?

Kindly advise please.

P/s : preparing for olimpics 2020

Looking at your arrival time, it must be AA arriving at Haneda at 10:30 pm. My same flight last 2 weeks ago touched down at around 10:15pm. By the time we collected our luggage and pass immigration, it was already 10:50 (considered quite fast compared to my previous time). You have limited time to go to the Bus Counter right in front of the arrival area, buy your limousine bus tickets, drag your luggage down to 1F (arrival is on 2F) through the lift and wait for the last limousine bus to the city which departs at 11:20. If you don't want to rent a hotel for the night, you could ride down to Shinjuku and pay to use one of the manga cafes there to spend the night. I have never tried this before, but if anyone who tried before could enlighten you here. Or you could even rent capsule hotels which are much cheaper than regular hotels.

Big Pay rate not necessarily better. The rate is charged based on exchange rate of the day Big Pay settles the payment with merchant (which is usually the next day or the day after). It gives you an estimate when you swipe but it isnt actual. Thus you could be paying higher rate, or lower, depending on the fluctuation that happens.

However in comparison to cc i think their rate is better than cc. Cash rate is still the best though, unless you didnt get a good exchange rate.

Btw you can use Big Pay like touch n go card in japan - swipe in 7e or family mart without minimum purchase. But just beware of the rate you'll be charged.

I think the rate is quite reasonable. Only 1.7% loss due to exchange rate and charge Rm6.7 per withdrawal as service fees from Maybank.

Say if I withdrawal 100,000 yen from 7-11 or JP Post bank ATM, only lost RM 67 due to exchange rate (3910 - 3843) + Rm6.7 = RM73.70

add another I think about rm24, withdrawal fee and don't forget to activate oversea withdrawal. used to withdraw JPY from my Maybank and CIMB acc from 7E ATM last time before I opened an acc in JP

Where does RM24 come from? I think there is another 216 yen from Japan ATM side which is around RM8

If you missed the train, Limousine are only option. Still alot way cheaper compare to Taxi.
Even let you get on last train, you only can reach Hamamatsucho Station then all other train service will no available anymore.

Limousine Bus at least can reach Shinjuku or Tokyo Station, more closer into heart of Tokyo

well, arrival like that...u got no choice since u already saved money on the flight
if the flight no delay, u should be able to make it to the last or 2nd last train(like i did)
but if flight delay, there is always airport limousine bus that operate until 2AM

but whether or not it's worth to book the accommodation is up to individuals
