Hi guys, I’m moving in to a place with time fibre for the first time for me. I check the website and for my likely package (100mbps), I will be getting a HG8145V5 Huawei modem router.
If I’m not mistaken this is an optical network terminal + WiFi + router all in right?
Assuming it’s crappy, can I use this as the modem / ONT only and use my own asus router? In my new place 1450 sqft with 3+1 rooms I’m worried about coverage so I want to setup a mesh system. The main router will likely be in the living room. And there won’t be any Ethernet back haul I’m afraid.
So i want to buy a new Asus router (AC59U v2), and maybe another one if a wireless mesh is needed to reach some dead Zones.
Is this a good plan? I have an older non mesh asus router working for unifi that is getting old, I may convert that to an access point first if some Ethernet connection is doable.
I am trying to keep wiring cost down and if possible avoid putting a LAN port in every room.
Thank you for the interest on TIME FIBRE.
The router for 100Mbps and 500Mbps is 2 in 1 Modem + Router combo.
You can contact TIME CS to change the combo modem and router into bridge mode so that you can use own 3rd party router.
