Can have a look here. https://www.tp-link.com/my/support/faq/1598/

Looks like:

1. Blocking via device MAC address.
2. Filtered Content - looks like DNS blocklist and/or IP block
3. Blocked Content - looks like DNS blocklist and/or IP block

I think OK lah for casual use. What's your target? If teens then they'll probably bypass in no time. I'm sure one of their friends in school is a hacker.

1. MAC address can be changed/spoofed easily. eg: Private MAC address already built-in to most OS.
2. DNS blocks will depend on whomever is maintaining the blocklist whether it's TPLink or one of those public blocklists.
3. DNS blocks can be bypassed by using alternative URLs.
4. DNS blocks can be bypassed by using external DNS or encryption like DOH(TTPS), DOT(TL), DOQ(UIC), etc...
5. IP a bit difficult to get all. eg: Youtube uses thousands of IP addresses.
6. VPN bypasses all unless you block the VPN.

Block web or app is the same. Need to block URL or IP.

Probably easier to use PC's or phone's parental control feature. Bypass by having secret 2nd device. devil.gif

How do you guys powered your router/modem/wireless ap/switches? Buy a multigang power adapter? I always hated the chunk of messy wire but seems like no easy solution to it

Hi I facing same issue. What settings should we configure?
*
after gone trough a few trials and errors, the setting that is working for me is
firewall level: low
port scan protection: enabled
ddos protection: enabled.

if u set firewall to medium or high then your port forwarding will not function properly.

Can anyone recommend a good router for Maxis 4G Home Wifi? The router they gave (TP-Link AC750 Archer MR200) is 1/4 the speed of when I use the sim card on my phone. Thanks!

Deco X50-5G

One of the best 5G modem with proper local warranty

If you want to stick to 4G, I not sure what's the market value of grey market Huawei B618 now. Used to be one of the best.

u no state budget pun.

CA = Carrier Aggregation = LTE-Advanced = 4G+

MR200 is a cat4 router only connect to nearest cell tower either B3 OR B7

for cat6 router then can connect to B3 AND B7 cell tower

for cat12 router then can connect to B1 AND B3 AND B7 cell tower

for cat18 router then can connect to B1 AND B3 AND B7 AND B8 cell tower

with Carrier Aggregation, you can latch onto multiple transmission channels at same time.
you'll get increased theoretical speed from combined channels.
the higher the CAT(egory) rating, the more capable it is to perform CA.

Is that good modem router for 5G?

What about non-5G ones?

Thanks.

non-5G will be huawei b618 (not telco locked set) or zte mf286d

no point getting 4G router anymore since 5G router itself already very good in 4G

If you are getting more or less same speed you paid for, no need to change router. Just my opinion. I have a 2014 router that able to provide the speed I paid for, I just keep it. Never change router yet.

Archer AX73 fits the bill and it is more than enough for 300Mbps

WiFi 7 won’t be mainstream for another 4-5 years

Any reason or not using back old router? Based off website it is stated that the D-link router can support up 867 Mbps on 5 GHz + 300 Mbps on 2.4 GHz).

That’s theoretical maximum wireless throughput based on Physics calculation.

We don’t live in a perfect world.

What set a good router apart is the performance and stability when you are further from the router.

On lower end routers, the performance reduction is very significant even when you’re slightly further from the router.

That’s because they often use less components and a simpler radio frequency circuitry.

Hi I got this router but when I put my Maxis 4G sim card inside it says sim card not detected. Does this need special installation for it to work?

where did you get the SIM from? What subscription.

If it was from Maxis 4G Backup SIM meant to be used with Maxis Fibre, then it is locked to function only when used with the dongle it came with AND the dongle itself is inserted into Maxis Fibre-approved router device.
