This is one of the latest device from HTC - HTC Kaiser
Just like HTC Hermes + GPS
It even includes a 3megapixel CMOS camera and the screen can be tilted to make it easier to read. Besides that, the SIM cards are hot swappable. Perhaps this device will replace Dopod 838 Pro .

It has everything you need, the ultimate connectivity device. I believe soon Dopod will bring this device in perhaps under the brand of HTC as Dopod is now acquired by HTC

From http://www.engadget.com/2007/03/20/htc-kaiser-in-the-wild/
QUOTE
Whoa, what's that HTC Kaiser doing there? Don't whip out your Wizard or Hermes and try this, folks -- you'll only end up with tears and a broken Pocket PC -- it's a hot new trick HTC's Hermes follow-on has up its sleeves. Besides the wacky flip-up action, the Kaiser ups the camera to a full 3 megapixels (an extra million pixels over its predecessor), adds HSUPA support for crazy fast uploads, GPS, and the now-obligatory Windows Mobile 6 Professional. No word on release, but we know with certainty that HTC wants this thing in users' hands in 2007, so we'd expect it to start showing up on European networks before too long. Click on for plenty of gorgeous photography.

Should be cheaper than U1000 but more expensive than 838 pro, and 838pro price should drop down by then.

If those people can afford U1000, those are the same type of people that will want this.

If only the GPS for 838 pro can be unlocked, this device wont sell at all !

Perhaps it would not be approriate to judge the speed by the clock rate. We still need to wait for some reviews.

Just like last time when AMD processors with lower clock rate can match the performance of Intel processors with higher clock rate

no lor, for PDA its quite easy to judge by seeing clock rate. if its 300Mhz PDA then can play games easily, like my Hp Ipaq 4150. But PDA phones need a MINIMUM of samsung 400Mhz for good gaming.

Added on May 30, 2007, 6:05 pmMy dopod d810, certain games also cannot play leh.

Added on May 30, 2007, 6:05 pmnot many. so far 3 games.

MSM7200 use arm11 processor where all current wm device processor are using arm9 processor, i think it would be a major improvement on this processor..

finally someone created this thread...

U see, the new qualcomm board, the MSM7200 has almost everything integrated including GPSOne.
i went through some of the schematics..

found out that this chipset is actually a dual core chipset..
a 384MHz ARM11 proc does application processing and another 274MHz ARM9 proc controlling modem processes and also accelerates application processing....

so its not just a plain vanilla 384mhz proc...
i'm really looking forward to this PDA phone... everything built in...

hopefully dopod will announce a rebranded version around Q4...

Definitely my next pda phone to replace my 838pro. Only regret is it doesn't come with VGA, unlike the one from Toshiba. whistling.gif

Perhaps this is HTC marketing strategy, after HTC Kaiser, perhaps they will release another PDA with VGA. Like this only can profit more

I'm quite inclined to buy this when it's launched.

But with Nokia E90 on the verge of being launched as well, it's going to be a tough choice. tongue.gif

Symbian is good, but you have more freeware and things that can be done in WIn Mobile. Hope GPS module works well. E90 is also nice but a bit bigger. In fact looking closely at HTC Wings if Dopod bring it here to our shores, basically the Dopod C500 but with 3G, HSDPA and GPS. Life's getting better......... brows.gif

But HTC Wings has smaller screen, I think GPS is much better on a PDA device with large screen.

I'm OK with all platforms, and am comfortable with both to the extent that I wish to own both platforms at the same time as each has its strengths and weaknesses.

Hmmmm, i'm still scared even if its a special processor. pda gaming is my life hahaha, so maybe i wait around and see what happens. i'm broke anyway, and still very happy with d810. also, if it is, IF, it is very powerful, then must consider battery consumption too....especially during gaming again haha

Lol, are you trying to safe your face for posting up wrong infos earlier on?

Look, the people who built this device have brains. For a device that has all connecitivity + GPS, what kind of processor do you expect them to give?

seems to be that way....

anyway, this phone, is really promising. Everything built in.. EVERYTHING.. expect the price to be like low-mid range laptop...
i'm speculating around the 3.5k area possibly around the 3800 figure since dealers like the number 8.

But my bet is it wouldn't be long for HTC to release a similar device with VGA screen. ( I'm not talking about Dopod U1000 )

Yeah I believe that to be true as well.

Kaizer is just a product to fill in the market as its top of the line product, the TyTN has been around for a tad too long. tongue.gif

The U1000 is meant for another market, so can't be used in comparison here.

agreed...
U1000 is practically a mobile laptop.. beats those sony viao.. haha

kaiser is suppose to replace the 838pro and maybe just to momentarily fill a gap in the market...
we could speculate alot... Is htc/dopod gonna release a VGA pda with WM6 ? or will they wait for windows photon ?

Maybe they will release a VGA PDA with WM6 and then offer free upgrade to Photon. But then, it is still unclear whether Photon will be release as WM7 or WM6 SP2

its said that photon will be on a whole new OS kernal...
now, windows mobile 5 and 6 are on Windows CE 5
they say photon is gonna be on Windows CE6...
i doubt we will get free upgrades for that....

maybe they will release one with WM6 cause now more and more are beginning to do so

Is it possible for Crossbow to upgrade to Photon? Eventhough the kernel is different.

If its possible, I do believe some manufactureres will give free upgrades for their latest model released before Photon is released.

But newer models like the Atom are manufactured by Quanta instead.

Some reliable sources indicate that the launch of the Kaiser has been delayed till Oct 07.

So if you want to get something now, can buy straightaway or wait for another 3 months. biggrin.gif

You mean 384Mhz ? I think its correct, perhaps its the default clock rate

For instance, my Dopod 577w, it is using TI OMAP 850 processor, 200mhz rated, but when I checked with OMAP, it is running at 180mhz only

20g is very light lar

Guess I'll get it ASAP once launched.
However, my few concerns are :-
1. expect problems with the 1st batch
2. tilted screen is cool, but new design can results in design flaw.
3. build-quality of the material as you WILL want to tilt it everytime.

http://www.lelong.com.my/Auc/List/2007-11D...al_warranty.htm

But it is far more expensive than the retail price, which is Rm3099. This price is for those tech savy that cannot wait any longer.

Initially I wanted to change my 838pro to this, but after consideration frankly this is not a major upgrade to me

OS wise both are the same (WM6)
3MB pixel (not big difference from 2MB)
GPS (I do not need cause I've got car GPS already)

I think I'll skip this, hope my pocket won't gatal and change at impulse... hehe smile.gif

I am using Dopod D810. Let me tell you this the new one P3600i or the D810x isn't a major upgrade. Same goes for this

The only thing thing has is GPS. But then you could buy a Bluetooth GPS Receiver and use it wirh your old one.

I rather invest that 3k on something else. The developers/hackers are doing a fine job on giving us the best things for our phone. For example they managed to strip down M$ WM6 and it runs pretty fast on our phones. I rather donate to those developers then HTC on this minor upgrade

For me , the next upgrade will be when Windows CE 6 is out (aka Windows Mobile 2007 or the next major upgrade). Who knows , if they can get the High Speed Uplink on it , it would just kick ass. I am waiting for the next-gen device. I'll pass on all the current devices as there isn't anything new

Need some confirmation here. According to HTC official site, it has 256MB ROM & 128MB RAM. The guy in lelong put it as 128MB ROM & 64MB RAM. If the lelong guy spec is the real one in our market, then I'm very disappointed.

No HSUPA is still ok, not really that biggie. And it's not mentioned in HTC site as well. And the hot swappable SIM Card isn't confirmed yet too.

Photon will be based on windows CE6.0
currently WM6 is on WinCE 5.2

its a whole new kernel...
i doubt it will be upgradable...

another thing, dun trust so much on lelong punyer information.. some really cacat info..
best is to always check HTC website..
and when buying, always check everything on the phone...
EVERYTHING.....

Reliable or not?
*
Sure it`s reliable. PDA Expert being one of the largest retailer of PDA phones in Malaysia won`t just take ur money away (btw, I`m not a staff of PDA Expert) & it`s their policy to collect deposits to confirm promo price if no stock.

I played with it on Friday in Midvalley. Nice, solid .... but, like Baronic said, HEAVY. No, not heavy as in it`ll break ur arm but since I got so used to the weight of the D810 (which is probably one of the ligthest PDA phones around, beating even the Asus P535), the weight difference in Kaiser is noticable to me. Sonyclie77 asked me to compare against Dopod 838Pro which is the replacement model and I think for 838 users, the weight is probaby ok. Oh, I absolutely adore the 3MP camera with auto-focus. If I buy this, I`ll buy it for the camera! laugh.gif

*
Why not, WM2003 and WM5 is also on a totally different kernal. Yet O2 Xphone II running WM2003 was upgraded to WM6 sucessfully

Hmmm... is this WM Photon gonna be able to run 32K processes at once? Now WM5/6 can run 32 only rite...

Heard from somewhere. Forgot where...
*
Windows Embedded CE 6.0 features a completely redesigned kernel, which supports over 32,000 processes, up from 32 process support of the previous versions. Each process receives 2 GB of virtual address space, up from 32 MB.

because the of the sliding keyboard..

qualcom cpu
3mp auto focus camera
gps
hsdpa/hsupa
touch flo
hot swap sim card

and most important for me.. microSDHC! i'm currently using xda 2i with 4gb sd card. 1 of the reason i still hang on with it is because i can't live without pocket wikipedia! so glad to c more ppc out there support 4gb cards.

PS: i saw in other forum stated that 838pro can support SDHC too with a little patch. maybe u guys with 838pro can try it out!

But then, trust me, it wont be long for TyTn III or something like that which comes with a VGA screen

I'm from Penang and currently stucked at Kampung Melacca. It seems like my only choice is i-gate which the only retail seller who has branch on both of this area. I called them, but they said the stok not yet arrive. How come Fresh Gear and PDA expert got their stock earlier huh?

BTW, any comment on i-gate cyberstation? I heard that they only sell at retail price firm, you won't get any extra discount nor any extra freebies, true?

it's still new and seem nobody owns it yet, so, it's hard to say for now. feature wise, it's much alike d810x except the processor, sliding keyboard and 3mp cmos camera. if htc maintain the same quality standard as prior products, i think it worth a buy.

Hi jaysquare,

walao... kena ffk by PDA Expert empty promises. Was waiting for u to write a review somemore. Haha...

Hi karhoe

PDAPhones with autofocus: Asus P525, Asus P535, Asus P735, O2 Stealth, O2 Flame

If u view HTC as a brand, then yes it is the first with autofocus. Haha... tytn III might as well sport the new Windows Mobile Photon

Hi Ziyi,

if i-gate monopolize the PDA market there, then they r able to place whatever price as they please. No competition ma.. So they can afford to maximise their profit margin.

As for PDA Expert and Freshgear getting stocks first, perhaps they are the bigger players in the MAlaysian PDA market and SIS gives them priority? There's actually one more which is MTCS which is kinda big also.

PDA Expert claims that they'll be getting stock of the Tytn II before any other outlet.
Called this fellow called "Eden" over at PDA expert Midvalley... initally said it will come Monday, then postponed to Friday... Today i call the guy, and he says there's no chance i can get it today. THe unit hasn't arrived from HQ, bla bla bla. Everytime he sayd he'll update me as to when the unit will arrive, but i have yet to receive even one call or sms from these chaps

I'm really frustrated with these PDA "experts"...

Sure thing, will post the photo soon. TyTN II for Malaysian market does not come with Tom Tom navigation, we get the MapKing instead. There are 2 maps, 1 KL plus, and another one is for the whole peninsular. Too bad you only get to register 1 map for free. (I chose KL map)

Besides, you get the a stereo headset (handsfree), 2 CDs (CD1 activesync, CD2 other apps), pouch (quote nice), AC adapter (charger) and usb sync cable.

The headset is using the mini-USB, so you'll need mini-usb to 3.5mm jack adapter to use standard earphones.

The warranty provided by SIS is 1 year. However, as correctly mentioned by kerazul, Freshgear giving another 1 year warranty.

Will updates you guys again soon.

I'm not able to get it in malacca, but I'm glad after 2 more days, I'll be back to penang, yeah!!! away from kampung melacca for 3 months...haha.

BTW, for those who got it, you can try CorePlayer version 1.1.0 and above to play video. It add support for hardware acceleration of the ATI Imageon chip which is embaded in the Quarlcomm 7200. The result is simply amazing.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=313072
there show the result of trinity = D810.

I think Kaiser will do even better, with the new Imageon gpu.

Hi guys,
I tried the Kaiser at Freshgear Sunway today. Hmmm... I'm quite surprised. The keyboard isn't as good as I thought. Somehow, it's even worse compared to the 838 pro's. It's too rubbery and pressing it doesn't give a solid feel. Really reminds me of the Stealth keypad.

And have anyone faced this problem? My friend just got one too and apparently he couldn't get a fix on his GPS. He managed to detect a few and then they just disappeared. After that, even after 45 minutes, nothing

Yeap, kerazul.

Me too been trying more than an hour all i get is just max 2 signal and it wouldn't last more than a minute then it disappear. i seriously think that there might be a problem with the GPS. I compare it side by side with my E90 and my E90 has no problem at all getting a fix in less than 5 minutes...

Hmmm... probably it has some power management issues (*touchwood*) which would spell batch-wide recall? mega_shok.gif

Or it may be just a driver issue that can be solved with a ROM update. Hmmm...

Anyway, this is a risk of being an early bird in acquiring a new device.

I have been using O2 mini for 4 years... TyTN not too heavy for me becoz when the phone is in my pocket, i feel the same compare to my mini thou it is 190g, but the size is roughly the same.

as for the GPS, it is easy to use. It takes me less than 30 sec to locate my location in open air places.. they got a software where u can download the satellite location from the internet and shortern ur connection time to the satellite..

so far the keyboard and the tilting thingy works fine for me, no hassle at all

Hi cheesey,

read from xda-developers and modaco, try com4 and 4800 baud.

And, this one is important, don't touch any setting inside the "External GPS", else you have to hard reset to get the GPS working.

PS: I have not justify any statement, still wait patiently to get my own kaiser sad.gif . But personally, I'll consider information from xda-developers and modaco as "reliable source". Hope this will help.

BTW, does Mapking has GPS port auto configuration?

It has auto detect. Go to "File", "GPS/Tracking" (I think) and there's a menu where u can select ur com port and baudrate. There is also an option for auto detect.

But I think it has nothing to do with the com port coz my friend managed to detect 2 - 3 satellites... then nothing...

and it remained nothing for all eternity... shakehead.gif

If it were a com port problem, I doubt that it will even manage to get a fix onto the 2 - 3 satellites in the first place.

I am using Mapking provided HTC, got original serial number too
when u go in, choose GPS, then choose destination, then enter the location, and press destination again
then juz leave it on the dash board for awhile, for me is about 30 sec to locate the location
then when it is ready, it will be like a voice " GPS navigation started, please turn xxx"

when it is waiting for the signal, juz dont press anything

u can ask the guy ( i bought from PDA expert) to install the map, for me.. i got all the map for ASIA including Bangkok, sg, HK, taipei, tokyo etc etc and it is only 200mb+

p/s : pls bear in mind there wont be any signal if it is raining too heavily ... same to the Astro

Managed to get the GP to lock this morning. Took a while to lock though. But still better than my bro's E90.

I've written a review on this device here http://www.apedia.info/?p=145

One question, is there any free-community map for Mapking?

X_X i use my fren's d810 doesnt have this problem, so accurate and fast. almost sync with my driving direction.

The GPS connect really fast. Even I sit indoor, and today is cloudy day(penang), I still able to get 4-5 sattelite locked. But it shown my attitude -12m ??? huh??? no wounder my house tends to flood.... lol

Guys

Got mine 3 days ago at 3288. Put on a 3rd party screen protector, courtesy of shop. Shop did not carry the Toshiba 2G micro sd so salesman replaced with Kingston, should be good. He also owes me the Jabra bluetooth headset, the 140 I believed (BTW how is it?)
After using for 2 days, am happy with system, good internet conectivity with my lappie as 3G modem, nice screen layout, faster due to more RAM and ROM. Have yet to try GPS.

might consider this one to replace my Nokia 6100.
I'm actually looking for a PDA Phone with a slide out QWERTY keyboard and has Wi-Fi available.

At first i was thinking of the 838Pro but then i find this TyTNII more interesting....

ErZresG2, I didn't try to use it for navigation yet, just make sure I get a lock on it with my Mapking 2007 and malsings map, that's it. I have a different device for navigation.

Anyway, seems quite a lot of ppl complain about the slow refresh. According to someone from xda-developers, you can use GPSgate to correct the problem. GPSgate is not free, but there's a free prog called gpsproxy which does the same, you might want to give it a try and see how.

Hmmm... that's strange. The purpose of GPSproxy is to convert non-garmin signals to a format which the Garmin software can use. I only use it to check for the availability of signals previously on my 6515.

walao... RM8.50 also dun wanna let them earn meh... biggrin.gif

If ur using a trinity, I don't think it's advisable to upgrade coz save for the camera and keyboard, everything else is more or less the same. And truth be told, the feel of the keyboard was a real turn off for me when I went to see it.

If I ever get the Kaiser, it'll be for the camera only - for which I could also get a Sony Ericsson for a MUCH lower price.

the camera is not meant to compete with SE ler, kaiser is expensive because of other factors which SE does not have such as GPS, QWERTY, etc etc.

Anyway, change to Kaiser IF and only IF you need qwerty and built in GPS, forget about the tilt screen nonsense, it does not really matter.

IMO, not worth buying, because QVGA sux on that big screen, it looks better on a smaller smartphone screen. It wont be long, for a VGA TyTn III or sort to be out

The gpsproxy method works perfectly, my Mapking R12 refresh every of the second!!! Hmm... this must be something wrong with the Mapking, there should be some compability issue between mapking and the Kaiser gps com port.

I tried with GPStuner (without gpsproxy), and it works without any problems too. Futermore, gpsproxy also read the data from the internal gps port, if there is any problem with the machine, it will get the same data. What it does is just read the data and copy it to another port.

Hmm... this is strange... any how, glads that everything is working fine now.

Hi limyusiong,

I think it'll work with any SIM Card. Just that u cannot update the ROM with the local one (HTC) which is usually more advanced and updated compared to the overseas one.

i dont think it will work with any sim card, because he buy it under contract, normally it is sim lock and you need to unlock it..

to update rom, you can flash it to local rom...

i think now still doesn't have anyone unlocked it, you need to wait for those hackers to do their work.. wink.gif

you can do the unlocking by your own also, just need to wait someone release it in the internet..

Hi hangy2k,

actually there ARE unlocker softwares available already. Just that they are a little unstable and u might end up with an expensive brick if ur not careful. U know the risks associated with hacking and modding...

Hi blur19755,

As far as I know, the only time a virus was introduced into a PPC it was just to prove a concept (an experiment). Other than that, the possibility of ur ppc getting a virus attack is very-VERY low. Unless u simply accept files via bluetooth.

Anyhow, if it'll make u feel better, u can always check out Airscanner which is a waste of ROM and RAM if u ask me.

Further reading on PPC viruses.

Just saw this phone selling for RM3388 in Malacca. Anyone knows if there are cheaper deals around in KL?
In Singapore it can already be had for S$1250, ie. less than RM3k...

Singapore or KL for warranty issues really does not make much of a difference for me cool2.gif

So I dont see the huge gap. Lets see cost to Singapore itself would cost around RM 300-400 (Fuel , Toll charges , VEP Charges , Autopass charges and all those charges). So there we go...you'll get around the same price back

has anyone had a hands on with this? review?

comparing with the e90, what would you guys take, nonwithstanding the inclination to be using a windows or symbian, aesthetics-wise, weight, form factor,

symbian's got pretty much a lot of software too for the e90, and we all know wm6 has lotsa proggies too..

such a wonderful world, to come out with such nice things to confuse poor ppl like us..

Hi jerm,

in terms of the keyboard build, I prefer the Nokia E90's. The Tytn II's keyboard really not solid at all man.

Everything else, I'd go for the Tytn II.

FYI guys,

I'm a 838 Pro users...

I had problem when pressing R and E. Have to press hard.
So I just went to SIS HQ to have my keyboard replaced
Got it done in below 2 hours of waiting there
I have already installed HardSPL, etc etc. They just flashed it back to the original. Lucky didn't void my device smile.gif

When I was there waiting, I was amazed by the number of faulty Kaiser units. There were even customers there complaining 4 days used and already got problem

The Customer Support there said, wait for at least 3 more months before purchasing Kaiser. I asked why? She said there is problem with GPS integration with bundled MapKing

Added on October 18, 2007, 6:41 pmThe girl said, first badge is usually problematic... so she said be patient smile.gif

Also there is already 300 back order of Kaiser already. There is no stocks too

Btw, ur P3600i cannot play COD 2 meh? I thought u can but u need to set the graphics level to low. And yeah, I heard the Tytn II has a GPU inside as well.

Hi all,

I don't think the girl would lie. What's she gotta lose by saying that? She doesn't earn commission from the sales. In fact, the more problematic units sold, the more unhappy customer crap she has to put up with. So logically her motivation should be for the Tytn II's NOT to be sold.

Hi jerm, it's only 14 pages. Abt 30 mins gao tim. The problems sound quite isolated la. But at the same time frequent enough to be a batch-wide problem. rclxub.gif rclxub.gif

Anyway, I'll be kind and tell u the 2 known problems we have:

1. GPS not being able to maintain a fix,

2. Keyboard keys sticky / not sensitive

Well, I think the GPS problem is only software compability, not serious.

For keyboard, it works well for me, erm.. I have small and sharp finger tongue.gif haha... many of my female friends tend to say, "hey, I want your finger", totall no problem for the keyboard...

Instead I have complain for the button below the screen (whatever its call). It is rather loose, erm... can I say very loose? I think I can...

Oh, ya.. I have one issue with the favourite people in the HTC home. Ok, when you add the favourite people, you can tap on the picture to call him/her. If you tap and hold it, it will open the contact where you can choose to call, sms or email the contact. Here if I do nothing and press ok, the phone freeze. It is not always freeze, but mostly. Is it a bug? Or my problem?

Hi Ziyi,

thanks for the headsup on the GPS fixing issue. Regarding the "loose" button, what do u mean "loose"? As in when u press, sometimes it register and sometimes it don't?

As for ur HTC Homeplug issue, I think it's a software issue. What softwares did u install in ur unit?

Just came from pdaexpert in curve while waiting for gf to finish her pedicure..had a go at their demo unit..
after using a wm2k3 pda for the longest time, i was blown away by the niceness of wm6 hehe..
first impressions..it's not THAT heavy, after all..it might pose some problems with ppl who are using tight pants hahaha..
going through it, it did feel a *little* laggy, or at least on par with my rx3415 (purely my opinion only) on switching through programs..maybe i was expecting miracles for hv to perform like some computer on steroids, heh.
couldn't get the touchflo magic to work though.
At a price of 3288,i think that it's a fair price to get one of these workhorses..so i should start saving up for it now haha..bye bye e90!
Ps writing this on an n73 is tough work!

Hi,

Got mine few hours ago, still exploring. I don't seem to have "Favorite People" as one of the icon in HTC Home. How to enable it ? Can't seem to locate shortcut/program to configure it.

TQ.

kaiser is now more perfect after the new mapking patch released. now left with the gps fixed problem. from my opinion, i think the antenna in the phone is too weak. there is a difference when i place it on my hand inside the car near the gearbox and then wind screen. wind screen will get a better signal than the gearbox area. but i came across some external antenna in lelong, only 99. can consider purchasing one. so far other than this , the kaiser is perfect.

Phew, managed to solve it only by performing a hard reset. Probably this was due to the 'junks' installed by the sales guy, don't really need them really. Now phone appears like what it was supposed to be.

First of all, the new Mapking works!!! thumbup.gif refresh every 1-2 seconds. Oh, almos forgot to meantion, it load extreamly fast, I can say 2 or 3 times faster than the Mapking included in the CD.

no, the loose I means was, the button sit loosely on the sensor...But after see you meantion about the register problem, ya.. it did happen sometimes...

I just went and try this TyTN II today

Compared to Dopod 838 Pro, it is more solid. Feels tough

But one thing I don't like is the keyboard. It is slightly a bit harder to press compared to Dopod 838 Pro

The touchflo technology is not the same as the ones in HTC Touch. You can only scroll with ur finger in TyTN II and I think that's cool enough.

If ur asking about Touchflo v2 which is present on the Touch Dual, then the Kaiser does not. The improvements in Touchflo v2 is the ability to zoom in, zoom out and rotate the screen while viewing pictures. Not sure whether anything has been done to the Cube launcher though.

The Touchflo implementation on the Kaiser is only the "smartscroll". No cube, no imaging stuff...

Hi dzi921,

yea... I didn't like the feel of the keyboard too. Too rubbery.

There's a guy from xda-developers who manage to get the 3D cube into the Ttyn II (not the flash edition), but it's not so responsive due to the difference nature of our touch screen. For those of you who are adventurous, go get the cab and try it.

If the random freeze you talking about is the reconnection to WIFI upon screen switched on, then yes (given that you switched WIFI on). Other than that, my Kaiser is quite stable.

Maybe you can elaborate more on the freeze u encountered.

First posting.....

Cheesey , after heavy usage, like serfing the net, internt radio etc, my tytn ii does experience temporarily freeze like you describe. Maybe memory problem.

Since you are a maxis user, you know how to access the maxis mobile portal where you can watch tv (like CNN) etc?

Another thing. I use GPSgate, QuickGPS etc still very difficult to fix and slow refreshing rate.

Talking about casing, i found this more practical. At least can answer phone without opening the leather casing. Not sure how it can accomodate the sliding mechanism though. But it looks feasible.

I just discovered 1 problems. The text message I send have wrong timestamp. Let say I send an sms on 4.30pm, when my friends received it, it shows 4.15pm. It show 4.30pm on my phone, but 4.15 on my friends phone. I verify with 2 people, so it is not the problem of their phone. Hmmm.....

new* I tried to send a sms to my own phone, the time show correctly.

Wounder what is the problem....

go to program, system info and check the current program memory. Without any program open, mine is already taken up by as much as 35 percent. Opening up GPS, Resco radio, it will be down by 50% . Would anyone have any idea whether WM6 suffers from memory leaks, like the P990i?

Well, I think this is due to the loading of launchers, task managers and drivers at startup. And, cheesey, tweaks CAN cause ur device to crash. Tweaking is hazardous if u dunno what is does. Can even cause physical issues (screen not sensitive, speaker burst)

Try to use the device as it is without any tweaking or software installed. See if the problem still occur

Guys,

First few days were wonderful except for the missing Favourite icon in Todays. After a hard reset, the icon reappear and things were okay for a while.

Now my TyTN II started to have this random temporary freeze, when opening or closing or scrolling application just became extremely slowwww.
I only have Mapking installed ever since the first hard reset.

I could not replicate the temporary freezing issue. It has occured while I'm typing an sms and a notification of prior sms successfully sent appear. It has also occured when I enabled Flight mode in comm manager, or switching from potrait to landscape mode. Even if I dont have anything running in Today, the problem can still occur. It looked as though WM6 is struggling for memory or the display trying to refresh the screen but when I checked task manager & memory, all appeared to be okay.

On occasion also, when I'm typing sms, suddenly the subsequent letters appeared blank.

Feel like doing another hard reset to see whether the problem reoccurs, but do you all have any suggestion ? Is this a sim card issue, cause I am still using the old 64k Celcom postpaid sim.

regards.

Okay, I manage to recreate the problem on most occasions when I was performing these tasks.

- Typing SMS using keyboard (with stylus) and while doing that you get a notification of the previous sms sent, click dismiss, then the temporary freeze will occur.

Is this a normal behaviour ?

I think i have my sms sent notification disabled, but to double check, how do you disable it again ?

I dont get 100sms per day, but I think so long if you get 2 or 3 sms immediately one after another, the problem may occur.

I am not a pro WM5 or 6 user having used Nokia/Symbian before, so I just want to know from anyone out there whether this is normal or abnormal.

I have my sms notification disabled but didn't face the freezing problem except for once where the startup suddenly become very very slow but it didn't hang. I reset it and everything back to normal, it happened just once.

Tenable,

you have to setup your GPS to com 4 with baudrate 4800 too if you haven't done so.

Then, look for GPS status monitor (or whatever they call it) in Mapking, launch it to see whether it sees any satelite or not. Initially, it will start with a few red dots on the globe image. Of course, make sure you are under open skies like what kerazul mentioned, it's the rule of thumb.

tenable,

Make sure you get a fix, that's it. As of the usage, you should refer to the Mapking user manual which is downloadable from their website.

good enough for navigation use, but if you want it for geocaching, sports related tracking, then maybe not.

Okay first thing first
when you first start mapkingR12, like you say, you will see the map with KLCC as the central point. You can plan your journey in various ways. One easy way is to click on the magnifying icon below, search for the start address, or POI (point of interest, such as the shopping centre, the Curve) Input your address or POI (remember to click options address, all POI etc just above the virtual keyboard) Press GO and the map with the Curve will appear. Use your stylus and press on the place, in this case the Curve. A broken circular ring would appear together with the Menu. Clikc on <start point>. There is your starting point. Do the same for Destination and midway point (this is the point where u want to pass between start and destination) if you so wish. You can then click on the blue car icon at the bottom, just next to the heart icon.. It will summarize your route, do a simulation if you so wish and you can aslo choose various option, like shortest route, highway preferred etc. delete and cahnge your stating point etc

After you have done that Press start GPS icon at the bottom. A map will appear and GPS will begin to loacate your position. At this point, click on any point on the map and you will see another menu and one of the icons is the GPS status. Click on this and you will see statellite bars and wait till it acquires a fixed position. Once it does that, click on the screen to return to the menu and click once again to return to the map of navigation. Then your current position should be indicated by the map and you are ready to roll.

I am also new to mapkingR12. Can anyone offer a better way?

devil98,

I was on Mapking 2007 but after substituting it for the patched Mapking R12, it is perfect. Get a fix within a minute in appropriate location and can even get it inside my single-storey house. The refresg rate is close to one second.

I really depends wat u want to use it for. If for basic urban navigation, built in is ok as u don't have to clutter up ur car with separate devices. But if accuracy and refresh rate is important for u, get an external

Hi fiftyone,

I don't think the screen shut off thing constitutes as a problem as there are actually many devices (which include treos) which have this implementation. It is to conserve power as well as prevent accidental screen-presses during phone calls.

The more pressing issues is the sudden lag in the system for a few seconds that a few users have noticed.

Hi terencetoo,

y is ur speakerphone not working? When u press n hold the green call button during a phonecall it doesn't activate? Regarding the quickgps, I believe u can still connect without updating the data but it will take a LOT longer to get a fix. The quick GPS data costs next to nothing to download. I'd just dl it.

To those who are trying to get GPS to work, it takes time for the GPS to get a fix (find your location). Some reported to wait for more than 10mins for the initial fix, especially under bad weather.

Whats the cost for 6gb microSDHC?

BTW, Just got mine yesterday. having some dificulty in GPS and also window Live messenger.

GPS:
I am a new to GPS. My tytn II installed with Mapking R12 but it seems like cant lock to the satelit. I tried to search GPS satelit and port com 4 actually found one. When i try to navigate(let said to Mid Valley), it cant lock to the satelit(i think), because it cant detect my current location and the start point, start some where in ampang KL. The GPS status shown ? with green color.

window Live messenger:
How to create account with it? how come i cant add account?

Sorry Cheesey, I don't think rain and cloud has any significant effect to the GPS, I have a few experience of using GPS in heavy rain. I have no problem to get the GPS lock from a cold start. The only thing I notice which affect the GPS functionality is the high rised buildings, trees, or anything which block the view of the sky.

BTW, I have theory backup tongue.gif

Can you explain more about this "Cell antenna"? What brand is it? Where you stick this antenna on your pda? Any picture?
I found out that the mapking R12 is more difficult to log into the satelite compare to the mapking 2007. When I purchase the tytnII, the sale guys install the mapking 2007 for me. When I found out the 10sec delay interval, I uninstal it and load the mapking R12. But it take longer time to log into the satelite.

Hi again, Cheesy

Oh, I'm not talking about the antenna. I'm talking about the effect of rain and cloud.

I never doubt that the atenna will help improve the signal strength. smile.gif

BTW, I always want to know how many channel the GPSOne of qualcomm support. With the help of antenna, can you please check how many satellite signal you can capture. hehe, Thanks first.

I have seen maximun of 12 satellites on my devices, but it keep jumping from 6-12. Inside my room, 4-5 should be considered very good result d. Normally struggle to get a fix, unless I sit near the windows.

I'm just curious of the GPS performance, practically who need GPS inside the house... haha.

Added: BTW, just realised that the antenna booster you meantioned is the one you show in the link. I thought you are talking about the external GPS antenna which connect to the port behind.

*
Here at my house like i mention before cant get lock and only can get about 2-3 weak signal. After using this booster i can get about 8-12 signal. Maybe whoever having gps reception problem can try this and confirm it. This booster just about rm5-rm30 worth to try.

Hi,

Just tested out camera on the HTC TyTN II.
Seems to be a bit laggy (i.e., the refresh rate was quite bad) when compared to the HTC Touch (and any other phone cameras)

Is this the norm ?

Thx

It is not that other thing are using the processing power, it is the camera itself. It forced to enter night mode when it detect the light is low, and I think it is a bit too sensitive!!! The only time I think it works flawlessly is using it outdoor!!! Even with the flourescent light, it will still enter night mode.

hiikung, this are some scenario of my battey usage:

About 10 SMS, 20-30 minutes voice call each day, no wifi, no 3G (may be a few second just to update weather/MMS), I'll have about 20% battery left on the second day. 20% is not enough for the next day use, so I'll drain the battey and recharge it.

I tried GPS continuously for 1 hour+, with no call/sms/anything in between, it consume about 20% of battery.

Once, I have 25% at the morning, still can hold until I'm went home at the evening, with 7% left. Similar to laptop, the last 10-15% last longer, especially the last 3-5% (The battery use the same material after all).

I had been in a place where it is the boundary of HSDPA and 3G coverage. I have things to do and keep walk in and out of that area, and it drain my battery a lot. My phone status must be keep changing in between H and G.

Lots of mixed usage. Call, 3G, Video Call, Movie, Music, Camera, install application (I turned on "do not charge the battery when connected to the PC"), GPS, etc... explore the whole phone, try everything. It last about 9 hours, from full to empty and it was the first use after the overnight first charge. That was my second day with it.

yeah the camera was like too sensitive.... when it exposed suddunly to bring light or normal light in dark place it sometimes tend to stuck/lag/hang for a while before they try to reduce it to an ideal mode.... its almost like the camera have a auto ISO adjustment with initial 1600 then too bring and try to adjust to 800 or 400 lol

the camera juz simply need some time to adjust itself... sth like a sleeping man juz woke up suddenly saw the sun striaght to it eyes lol!!!

overall im still not so satify with tytn2.... but i still can live with it so far... lolx

The mapking r12 need sometime to log to satelite. That is why take longer time compare mapking 2007. For navigation, the mapking 2007 will have some delay to update your position. So maybe you will miss a juntion if you travelling fast.
Both software can be use if you just want to find a place. (strandstill) Pros n con.

Can i install both mapking 2007 & R12 & switch when the other fail to capture signal.. it wont clash the system rite..
My mapking 2007 failed on me again today..the whole day i've been trying to capture satelite signal and it just wont happen. Mapking 2007 is not like for u to use 1 month then u can't get the signal rite..
Btw, will the phone signal affect the capturing rate for satelite signal? like when your phone signal is weak then is harder to get the satelite signal..if to get Cell Atenna is to boost up the phone signal rite, wouldn't that means it also boosting the radiation too.. but if that can help up with the gps signal..i might consider

Try to limit heavy multitasking & reset once in awhile to free up the RAM

Don't frequently drain your lithium battery. It does not work like nickel cadmium or nickel metal hydride type, where discharge is necessary. The more frequent your lithium battery near to 0%, the shorter the battery life will be.

Find the MPAking card that comes with your TYTN. There is a registration number there and go to the website, follow the instruction to get the registration code. you can register one map for free. I have both Mapking and Mapking R12 installed. Somehow, nowadays, difficult to get a lock.

Don't be so happy first. Later you will encounter alot problem depend your knowledge and expereince. When you install more software into it, you will see the problem coming out. Try to get used to the hang/freeze thing.

of course it is puny...look at the size of P900 and compare it with the kaiser tongue.gif ...
anyway, just got mine 3 weeks back.
so far, ok la. freezing thingy happen quite common with PDA, not to mention PDAPhone...even my previous Axim X51v got freezing once a while...and that one with 624Mhz proc...
i've tried the GPS using Mapking...as mentioned in some of the review on the net...the qualcom chip is not that good...consider acceptable la...it's not sensitive enuff...so when u r moving too slow, the 'arrow' kinda not accurate...battery wise, mmm...need to always bring the usb cable even thou direct charging is better...just to make sure ur battery didnt dried out on u when u need it the most...
anyway, the rule of thumb using PDA/PDAPhone...just like ur4m3shi said...install only what u need...if u want to install so much...get a LaptopPhone or DesktopPhone tongue.gif tongue.gif

The patched mapking is good, your Kaiser will be more sensitive and accurate. I tried Garmin QUE and although the map is good, the sensitivity is terrible. Now I just installed Garmin Mobile XT, need more time to test its usability. Unlike Que, you dont need to have GPS Proxy running wink.gif

Guys, i kinda need ur advice. Am thinking of getting the Kaiser but was wondering about the gps map given in the package.

1.How good is the GPS in terms of speed in tracking sats?
2. How accurate is the maps provided by Mapking?
3. I understand that i have a choice of either the KL map Or peninsula map. Is the Peninsula map just a map of our highway or is it detailed in the cities as well?
4. How would u rate the performance of this PPC?

Really grateful with your experienced inputs.

MadMan,

Yea, I got the Garmin MXT running on my Kaiser with built-in GPS. Good thing is that it doesnt require GPS Proxy. But one of the cons is that you can't set the GPS ID. PM if you wanna know how coz it involves some workaround & cracking. I don't think its appropriate to describe it here.

jmunchar,

1. From my experience handling GPS on Kaiser, it doesnt really take that long to get a fix on the GPS. I once beat my friend getting a fix on our GPS, he's using external GMXT GPSr. The cons having internal GPS is that your GPS built-in antenna need to be under the windscreen. So in daytime, its kinda hard to see the Kaiser PDA screen (as it is very dimmed & reflective). If you have an external GPSr, you can just put the receiver on the dashboard and your PDA elsewhere. Kinda hard to explain but I think you get the idea.

2. Map provided by MapKing is quite good. If you buy Kaiser, pls download the patched version for Kaiser, as the one provided in the CD have some issue with Kaiser.

3. The Peninsular Map contains the other cities as well. But don't expect it to be as detail as KL Map.

4. A very subjective question. Depends on who you're asking. Overall, I like my Kaiser.

To add on the Peninsula Map costs much more than the KL map. Since we can only register one, then it's wise to choose the Peninsula map.

Anyone managed to log into free Airzed Wifi at Coffee Bean?
I never get to the login screen, it just hangs before giving me a DNS lookup timeout

daceman,

IMHO, the latest GMXT really beats Mapking 2007. Glad to know that I am not the only 1 running it on kaiser. biggrin.gif

For the R12 version, there's a map for East Malaysia. There's no separate map for each state. You have to depend on the Peninsular Map.

Don't worry too much on it, you can use Garmin on your Kaiser.

Yea, the route is way better than Mapking. And the overall it is huge leap from garmin QUE. But the recalculation is too slow. I think it's not with the software, guess the Qualcomm chipset is not sensitive enough to work with Garmin.

well .. here goes .. hope u can understand my explaination .. not really good at teaching ppl ...

i assume u havent touch any settings at external gps ... if u havent then good ... let it be ... open mapking program (i assume u use r12) ... after it loads .. go to tools ... then more ... then go to options ... down there got GPS tab ... open it ... for mine ... i select by user ...the settings there are com4 ... 57600 baudrate .. and gps signal .. normal ... then push the button search gps .. it will search in a minute or so .. then it will tell u whether it can detect the gps or not ... if it says gps found then good ... just ok to exit ...now i assume ur at the main window of the mapking program .... down there there should be a "gps" button with a picture of a satellite .. tap there and now the screen chance edi ... tap at the top side of the screen and it will bring u out to the menu ... normally i will tap at the GPS status to view the current status .. here is the pain part .. u have to wait to lock to a satellite .. not sure how long .. depends on ur location n so ... after it lock then u can use edi la ... well .. hope u can understand n good luck ...

For faster GPS connection, try this. Download the quick GPS data whenever is possible. Either wifi or sync. It has 6days validation. After that the data is expire. It will help you a bit.
For your information, the malsing website have a latest malaysia map. (October map) All east and west malaysia and singapore avaible for download. But the singapore map, you need the code to unlock the 3days trial.

Most probally no offer or just a standard offer. Cause it still new and hot selling now. So not necessary to boost up the sale now. Maybe I m wrong. Try your luck.

Got my TyTN II last week, RM3150 for PDA + 2GB + Bluetooth + Car Charger + Screen Protector. Not the best deal, but I wasn't really shopping around much. So far it's been excellent; can't find anything bad to say about it smile.gif

What you guys say about PDAs is correct... once you go PDA, you never go back (my last phone is an N70). Had a good laugh comparing it to my friend's brand new N95 8GB... was going on and on about how powerful it was; then I fired up Skyforce Reloaded and then PocketSNES and he quickly quieted down, LOL.

Quick question for you sifus here... anyone with a TyTN II or similar manage to log on to the Maxis WAP Portal? I followed all the directions to set it up but the website refuses to load... I still have three subscribed Maxis TV channels, darn it sad.gif

I think his problem is "couldn't access the Maxis wap page", not "cannot access to the internet".

I have this problem too. Whenever I try to open Maxis wap, I'll be redirected to www.maxis.com.my.

BTW, does PocketIE support wap (wml) page? Guess nope. haha

The 8gb SDHC micro sd is coming in. It has been tested to work on TYTNII. I m passioning now for waiting this memory card.
Those who have difficulty log on to gps can try out this " antenna booster". It recommended by cheesey forumer a few pages behind. I try it out yesterday and it work. The signal is stronger now and it log on faster. Even it increase one bar for the phone signal. Before that I ve weak signal for phone and no gps signal in my home. Now I can log on gps in my home with a good phone signal. For kiasu, I stick in two in my TYTNII. He....

Added on November 29, 2007, 11:54 amGuys, did you findout there is one function in mapking call photo navigation. Quite usefull but didn't state in manual how to use this photo navigation. It is a photo taken by you with a location info in it. So when you choose the picture, it will find the location for you and navigate.
To use it, go in to the photo navigation with gps log on. Don't close the mapking, press the windows button and launch the camera. Choose the picture gps mode and shoot the building or whatever location. Than close the camera and go back to mapking. The picture should be inside the photo navigation and in the POI folder. Just touch the photo when you want to navigate it.

you guys claimed that your tytnii GPS can lock satellite signal fast. I tried...using Mobile XT and after 1/2 hour....still cant lock....there are signals...but cant lock.

Why???

Sometimes it lock damn fast...just like Turn on then within 10-20 secs.. can, but sometimes..it takes me more than 1/2 hour.

BTW, today's no rain....damn hot and the sun can burn your S up

Did u update the QuickGPS? That will help in locating the sats. Plus, try to be in a clear location. If u r in a covered location, you may face difficulties.

Well, why don't u try driving around town and switch on your GPS. Put in on your dashboard and start your stopwatch. Initially, it would take longer than usual. Once you managed to get a fix, it should take a minute or two the next time (even after you close the app).

However, based on my experience, if you soft reset your Kaiser, you're back to square one.

Of course it won't!!! You didn't connect it to any part of the circuit board, and it doesn't require any external power to work. Basically it just orientate the signal to the antenna so that the antenna can get better signal concentration.

It won't help you boost from very low signal to full bar, that's impossible, but one bar boosted is true.

TyTN II have phone and GPS antenna on the top, WLAN and bluetooth antenna on the bottom, may be you needs 2 for total effect.

jmunchar,

No problem. If you are talking about Malsingmaps 2.14 (November version), yes, there are flaws, but nothing to do with kaiser, it's the map itself.

Please read the Wiki in malsingmaps, especially the newbies section.
If you are new, then 2.14 is out of your reach, you need contribution to get unlock code else your garmin can't open it, the instructions are clearly written in the forum.

As of now, use their June map which is not lock. 2.14 has routing problem on certain coordinate, can't remember exactly. I am using 2.13.

I learn all the way from the Wiki in malsingmaps, no problem unless you are lazy to follow the steps. rclxms.gif

Lucky bro didn't said it will explode. rclxms.gif Anyway it did boost the gps signal. I can now log on faster compare last time which take few minute. For phone signal is just one bar. should be ok wah. I still left one pcs. don't no want to sell it or not.

You can also try Freshgear shop. Although they sell at the same price (3,288) they give u extra 1-year warranty, and of course, the same freebies. I just happened to be one of their customer.

I guess it depend on the person. Some like alot freebie and cheaper. Some just ok with Std package. But I guess freebie and cheaper is the main attraction.
