One is “Maybankard 2 Amex Gold”, the other is “Maybank Visa Card”

have you gotten any basic card before September that you may have forgotten? or left unactivated? etc

better get CS to explain the odd amount and purpose of it.

Maybankard 2 comes in a pair of 1 Amex + 1 Visa or Mastercard.

Tip: If you don't need the visa card, you don't need to activate it or you may just cancel it, although they came as a pair.

Yes, direct at branch. Thought post SST, maybank 2 cards will always come in pair, if cancel both also kena cancel, cannot cancel only one, no?

Can, from the day they imposed the rm25 tax, i straight away cancel the other unused card. They cant ignore our request to cancel the other card, unless they are willing to pay that rm25 for us, in the form of loyalty or whatever they want to call it.

That was in 2018.. Now it seems no longer possible.

I think I did it early of this year, just called the cs to cancel, and they straightaway cancel it without asking any questions.

Just to update was I was told by CS when I called to cancel the Visa card. It seems any 1 card can be cancelled based on "member since" date is before September 2018.
I did asked in the event I want to upgrade to platinum, the CS said, must call CS to specifically request for card upgrade and they process the application to upgrade the amex card only thus the "member since date" will be the same. If MBB issued the 2nd card (despite cancelled earlier), need to call back CS to cancel that card.

So far this is what I was told la so wondering if anybody can confirm this? 

Yes, lucky for us. However, ys_2k mentioned he was able to cancel it too. Maybe it is just an isolated case or MBB has started to be lenient about it. Not sure.
