Is it just me or Maybank has taken a hard stance on not giving cashback for AMEX transactions that take place on Malaysia weekends but merchant's weekdays?

Based on my past (years ago?) personal experience, a simple call to CS was sufficient to have the cashback honoured on goodwill basis.

However, recently I called CS for similar request, I was advised to capture screenshots of the MAE notification & merchant's email as proof that the transaction took place on Malaysia weekends & have them sent over via email, only to be rejected even after an appeal.

Any recent successful story among you guys?

6) Tracking of the spend is based on transaction dates (Malaysian Time) and the time in which the
transactions are successfully posted in Maybank’s system throughout the usage of the Card. The
Cash Back awarded is based on the transaction date processed by the merchant according to the
local time zone of the origin country where the transaction was made. If the transaction does
not fall on a weekend due to time zone difference, it is not eligible for Cash Back. For the
purposes of this terms and conditions, “spend” means retail spend made by Cardmembers with
their Maybank Credit Card(s) within the validity of the Card as captured by Maybank’s system.

already say its goodwill basis ma, you are in Malaysia, not US/UK. it is only right to follow one time zone.

Thanks, I'm very aware of this T&C. sweat.gif

In case I wasn't being clear in my earlier post, I'm just trying to gauge whether I was just being unlucky to have my email handled by a grouchy Maybank CS or Maybank has indeed dialed down with their "generosity".

Follow one time zone? That wasn't the case though since the bank is following the merchant's time zone instead.

Anyway, that wasn't my issue as explained above. sweat.gif

answer is YES

they purposely added the new clauses into the T&Cs since Sep 2024. treat it as their hard stand (in B&W), without having the "generosity" to manually grant cb.

That explains a lot. Thank you for pointing out the change in the T&C.

better start now or you should already have adjusted your mobile banking apps through your main phone.

BNM already forcing the industry with their security guidelines since 2022.

no matter how you argue with your reasoning, the major theme: financial fraud, is getting more advance and notorious.

// Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) security guidelines for financial fraud focus on improving financial institutions' security, mandating stricter controls, and promoting public awareness.

Key measures include a shift from SMS-based OTPs to more secure authentication, limiting online banking to one device, and having financial institutions collaborate with law enforcement and the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC). Banks must also follow a policy for fair treatment of victims and have processes for reporting and handling fraudulent transactions.  //

by removing SMS-based messaging, it also saved the FI on cost to manage/subscribe SMS services. of course, the cost will be shifted to mobile app's security measures instead.

Thank you very much for your response. Sorry for my late reply.

We are not really Maybank employees, and thus can rely on only sharing our real-life experience in using Maybank CC.

As such, based on experience sharing among us Maybank cardholders here, is it possible that Maybank has discontinued SMS transaction alert?

The Bank Negara and ABM articles do state the migration of SMS which is used for authentication of banking transactions. However, the articles do not mention about the discontinuation of SMS meant for disseminating information.

SMS transaction alert is a SMS meant for disseminating information about credit card transaction to cardholders, and cannot be used to approve online credit card transaction.

Recently, I received a SMS from Maybank, in regards to the Replacement of Shariah Contract for Maybank Islamic Cards.

Moreover, when we install MAE in another handphone, Maybank will send a SMS OTP to us, which is needed to activate Secure2u in MAE in another handphone.

As you said, Maybank will try to reduce the number of SMS sent to customers to reduce the cost. However, Maybank can never fully discontinue sending the SMS to customers, because SMS is still needed to provide information to customers.

adoi, of course they still need sms service for critical use. there is still no perfect, fool-proof, hack-proof direct-to-user messaging solution except sms.

just that any usage-based SMS will be reduced/replaced with app-based solution --- that's what BNM thinks, but it's not ideal and actually creating friction/entry-barrier to select group/type of users (eg poor, senior citizen, oku, etc)

bnm basically shift one issue and cover it up with another. laugh.gif doh.gif

Nice card, and approved immediately
Why can it be approved immediately? It's because I am the existing cardholder?
