Since unifi is providing free upgrade soon, i guess everyone is looking to upgrade their router to get the best possible result.

i recently got my a refurbished unit of ASUS RT-AC68U from taobao for around rm 300. delivery will take around 2 weeks to reach my doorstep.

But you would need a custom firmware for the VLAN tagging or else you would need a VLAN bridging device.

That is okay, but no Malaysian firmware available, and there are lots and lots of dual band routers out there now. If you want go enjoy full speed, you have to pay extra for a decent router.

Just got one from there. Tumpang on peoples purchase. Havent even open it yet. I guess overall on tumpang peoples purchase is so much easier.

he wants a modem router, the ac68u is just a router. So you need to buy a modem separately.

Alternatively if you really want a combined modem router no matter what, the Asus DSL AC52U looks good, or want something cheaper, this D-Link serves your purpose as well. Just search for models with DSL in its name.

Actually his quite right. I'm asking about Mi router 3 because it almost has the same configuration as the asus one.
And secondly I did ask for recomendation for combined modem router.
So when TS answer he answer for my first question but did not answer my second question.
Also thanks for the link. I'll think about it when TM upgrade my package to whatever they have higher than my current one.

Bought Asus RT-AC86U 3 months back from taobao, so far so good. Also bought the TP Link AC3200 PCIe adapter wifi card, i think its capable to support larger internet bandwidth

The Mi Router 3 only has 2 LAN ports, and both LAN and WAN ports are only 10/100, therefore only good up to 100Mbps Unifi. Anything higher requires Gigabit WAN, and LAN if you want the most speed out of your internet.

how much u bought the ac-86u? interface in chinese? new or refurb?

I have few unit of Mi Router 3 to let go. Support Unifi without extra devices. Feel free to pm if you're interested.

RMB899 (around rm500++) brand new, international firmware, just change the language to English in the setting, there are plenty of languages to choose.

Your unit of ASUS RT-AC68U from taobao can use for unifi? Your ISP profile option list have unifi option to choose?

Because i just ask the seller in taobao they reply me dont have unifi option in the ISP profile.

Without that option then we unable to connect UNIFI internet right ?

Asus router in Malaysia damn expensive......tax here tax there. now gov already change, cant they do anything about this?

I think if your router is working fine at the moment just wait la. My router was going kaput so thats why i upgrade. I think tm will upgrade to a better router soon

Nothing to do with Malaysian tax. Asus are selling it significantly cheaper in China to compete with other Chinese brand. They had no chance to compete if they are selling same price as they do worldwide.

Show me the setting here. Do u use custom firmware ?

yea.. but something very weird happen.. my download speed is only 4mbps meanwhile my upload are 48 mbps

Are you on wired or wireless? If you are on wireless and on 2.4GHz band, your 2.4GHz is probably congested or there is an interference. Get a wifi analyzer app on your Android phone or on the computer, I recommend Acrylic Wifi Analyzer. Connect on the 5GHz AC band and see if your download speed is still slow.

wireless.. my other device are working fine.. only my main dekstop have problem with the download speed.. weird

Try to update the driver for your wireless adapter. If that doesn’t work, see if your wireless adapter can go on 5GHz. If you can’t, get a USB wireless adapter that supports AC..

im using TP link T9UH ac1900 USB adaptor

weird.. when i use back my old asus router i get 105mpbs download, 48 on upload lol..

Hmm.... no choice since wanted cheap router from Taobao. Definitely have some cons. If buy from Lazada cheapest I can find is RM899 which is also from China but the seller is giving 3 years 1 to 1 swap. But have to fork out extra RM350.

The router itself supports wireless AC at 1300Mb/s but not a lot of device can attain that speed

How many percentage can it achieve out of it's 1.3gbps if the receiver itself also support up to 1.3gbps since it's wireless.

even a gigabit LAN also wont achieve full 1gbps.

wireless speed are just theoretical. u wont get full speed as advertised.

Both also is new unit. Come with 3 year warranty. Tb one first year 1 to 1 exchange.

In fact, that lazada seller also bought from tb, charge higher price n resell to u.

BTW, I am refer to ac86u.

If u want cheaper price, a refurbished ac68u which cost around Rm300+ also good enough.

From my experience, big improvement not much.

But, ac86u did come with better CPU, more memory, mu-mimo and 4x4 WiFi spatial stream.

If u already got ac68u and it is working well, I would say just stay with it.

I am using official firmware

To check temp, u need to flash to 3rd party firmware like merlin.

But so far I think temp is acceptable since it is cool by two 7cm fan attached to the casing.

official firmware no temp monitoring function ?

Can someone help me please.
I bought the ac68u from taobao (standard one not t-mobile) and im having problem setting it up.
First i connected my pc via ethernet and cant access to the modem at all. I was able to access through Wireless.
And also, unifi gave me the password which i set but still shows no internet.
What should i do??

Update: fixed how to login to modem from pc and everything but still no internet. Do i need to do anything beside username and password?
