FYI, REAL SNR and SNR Margin should never be confused with each other.

SNR is your actual SNR
SNR Margin is the margin between you current SNR and the minimum SNR your current line needs to be stable.

For example if it says SNR Margin is 6, it means that:
(your minimum SNR margin for you current line) + 6db

lets say your minimum margin is 6dB, so it means:
(6dB) + 6dB = REAL SNR Margin of 12dB

----------------------------------------------------

So lets say, the minimum margin to run 4096kbps is 12dB.
Your modem reports an SNR MARGIN of 8dB, it means 12dB+8dB = 20dB SNR (REAL)

20dB SNR will put you in good with little or no disconnection problems ; )

REAL SNR Classification:
6bB. or below = Bad and will experience no line synchronisation and frequent disconnections
7dB-10dB. = Fair but does not leave much room for variances in conditions.
11dB-20dB. = Good with little or no disconnection problems
20dB-28dB. = Excellent

29dB. or above = Outstanding

shocking.gif so bad...

Recenly I saw some people who has line attenuation at 47db,snr margin at 7db,also enjoy 4Mbps.
Why couldn't I install it????? cry.gif  cry.gif  cry.gif

that's why, my status snr also did not met their requirement, but proceed.

while 2mb combo cost rm130, 4mb cost rm 160 different rm30 you can njoy

im having 218.111 ip and the speed is not stable.
the latency will reach 400+ then drop to 10-20 then back to normal.
the speed also same. 3mb+ drop to 1mb+ then back to normal again then drop again.

may i know why?

From CRM slide i read last week from my friend who were attending tmnet training.

SNR margin is the difference between ur actual SNR and the requirement to maintain the ADSL line,

Actual SNR = 40.
To maintain a 4096kbps require = 38

Ur SNR will be = 2

But the actual Noise Ratio usually fluctuate, hence once the Actual Noise drop below 40 , ur line will be force to resync.

Average attenuation per/km is 13.6dB. IIRC.

And deduct 5SNR per 500kbits. Let say currently u r connected with 1024kb/s with 20 SNR. So u have like 1500kbits more if u consider upgrading. More then that = blinking

Maybe i'll post here the slide after Raya. Or somebody from VADS here care to?

thanks for the informative post by andrew and archonixm

@andrew: what's the required minimum margin to run 1024, 1536, 2048 and 4096?

@archonixm: the slide mention to maintain a 4096 line require 38db? any other info on how much db required to maintain 1024/1536/2048? so that all of us can calculate our actual db.

At the service acceptance form which installer will fill up,it indicates the particular requirements for 4Mbps application:Line attenuation<40db,SNR margin>15.

Currently my port is still at 3Mbps because I'm using the 2M plan. The line attenuation is 43.5db and SNR margin is 28-30db.Because of the bad line attenuation, the installer doesn't upgrade it to 4 Mbps for me. cry.gif cry.gif cry.gif

Hello, I'm currently planning to upgrade my 1mb line to to 4mb line. So far I've heard, I need to fulfill several requirements to be able to subscribe for this package. This is the results I got from my Belkin router.

Noise margin Downstream (dB): 17.0

Attenuation (dB) Downstream: 57.0

Will I be able to subscribe for it?

Thank you.

most likely not because your attenuation is high...
increaseing DSLAM data rate will further increase your attenuation.

best is ask a TM technician to check for you ; )

I don't think the current line quality could even support 2Mbps.The line attenuation in my line is 45.5db where the SNR margin is 17db at 5120Kbps port, but the installer refused to upgrade for me to 4Mbps plan.

Unless the installer is willing to help you troubleshoot the issue on your line or perhaps transfer your port to a closer one,you won't get any upgrade from current line.

I've just upgraded to the 4mb package today (from 1mb package)

According to the Tmnet checklist:

my SNR checking is 24 and Attentunation is 7

I'm using a Linksys WRT310 router and a Linksys AM300 dsl modem.

The green lights that's visible are: power, ethernet and DSL. The internet should light up green but it no longer does that now but yet I'm still able to surf online atm.

Is this normal? How long does it take for the upgrade to take effect?

My connected IP atm is: 60.51.105.174
If this is not the right IP for 4mb users then what kind of IP should I be on?

I'm in the TTDI area. Appreciate any input and help on this.
