For those facing the bsod problem, did u guys contact illegear about the problem already? Not sure need to send back the laptop for checking or not now, worry that it might just be driver issue which can be fix easily.

Did u tried memtest?

Will try when I got a thumbdrive to do so, have you?

I am hoping it is fixable remotely or via updates, not convenient to send back to Illegear for me at the moment.

---

When updating the BIOS though at the last step when updating the OEM Service thing, I have a lot of UAC prompts while doing that, don't know if that's normal or not

Hi guys,

Recently we have two ONYX users reported BSOD (driver IRQL not less or equal, page fault in nonpage area etc) to us, one of them got his fix by updating windows/drivers, another one was fixed by reformatting windows.

It doesn't seem to be caused by the latest BIOS because we have used this bios for all new ONYX orders.

You can try to update the drivers/windows first, or reformat, steps as below:

1. Backup your important data first from your laptop
2. Locate one 8GB pendrive for usage
3. Using another computer, download the Windows 10 Installation Media from here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/software-download/windows10
4. The tool will mount the Windows 10 ISO into the USB drive to make it bootable
5. Boot your laptop from the USB to enter into the recovery environment

If you are unsure how to do the reformat, you can backup your data and send your system to illegear, we can help to identify the root cause of BSOD and reformat if necessary.

Hi Prince,

What drivers need to be updated? And is there any link to the (updated?) drivers? I am already on Windows 1803.

Same here.. BSOD CRITICAL_PROSES_DIED on battery power. Windows failed to create crash dump and directly went to BIOS mode and I noticed my NVME SSD not listed in NVME controller section. Its look like it failed to detect boot drive in NVME SSD and thats why it directly went to BIOS. I have to completely power off my laptop to boot into windows.

Dear users,

Should the issue is related to the NVMe SSD, we can perform a replacement or a firmware update for the SSD to rectify this phenomenon.

Kindly email us the serial number of your laptop to support@illegear.com and we shall assist regarding this issue. The serial number can be found at the bottom of your laptop and it will look like either ILG850XXXXL or GK5CN6Z218XXXXXXX.

After another BSOD, used the WhoCrashed software for some details:

Any idea what driver needs to be updated? Cannot find more info on 'hardware.sys'

Thanks.

I think the links are broken, at least from my end. Very curious to see the skins!

I don't know if it's a good time to ask this after seeing all the reviews

Is it still recommended to purchase Onyx? I really like the design as well as the specs, but the bsod and screen leaking problem kept persisting in this laptop (as seen in this thread)

I actually have no BSOD issues nor bleed that is objectively "bad", but yeah more or less its a lottery - same as it is with any other brand.

TBH, the only real probable "deal-breaker" with the Onyx is the keyboard, as its pretty subjective. For me, I hate that it sometimes double-registers when I don't give it a firm punch, but otherwise I'm okay with it - sound and all.

try it now? saw the bug on mobile earlier too. after loading up the links it seems better now.

Nope. they can pretty much do the stickers for anything (in theory) just need to give them measurements and they will quote accordingly.

I did the measurements for my onyx (basically i became the guinea pig) so this supplier has the exact measurements for the onyx and can reproduce the stickers to fit your onyx too. designs are customisable.

Thanks for the quick reply

Hi Illegear, just want to know if there are known issues besides the bsod, screen bleed and the keyboard problems with the users? And if you can answer, how often does these problems occur to the new Illegear Onyx devices (number of affected coffeelake devices out of the number of coffeelake devices you have sold)

There are a couple of BSOD cases are caused by the old firmware of the 240GB M.2 NVMe SSD, the SSD with this version of firmware has random detection issue. We have gotten a few RMA because of this firmware and to prevent the detection issues from happening again, we provide free upgrade to 256GB Samsung NVMe M.2 SSD for the affected users.

New 240GB M.2 NVMe SSD will be installed with latest firmware .
