QUOTE(Eiraku @ May 12 2018, 05:39 PM) The updated EC/BIOS helps a lot, TBH. Especially due to the fact that you get a BIOS "switch" to tune between quieter + throttled running and loud + unthrottled performance. Heck, even tuned for performance the new EC is pretty quiet at idle. the bios/EC drivers not released yet right? Also, compared to the "silent" rivals (namely the GS65 and the Aero) the GK5CN (even on the current, outdated Oynx EC that I ran the review in) runs slightly cooler, so yeah it's pretty much a give and take situation. Plus don't forget due to the lower heat you can tune the manual fan curves for lower noise and STILL run cooler then the others (on the shipped EC anyway, after the update I don't really think you'll be needing the custom curves). And no, don't drill holes. It's just the fan curves, the unit itself actually runs cooler then its rivals (as I've mentioned before) so it's pretty pointless to drill holes. |

QUOTE(Eiraku @ May 14 2018, 12:44 PM) Well, get good 3M / Orcal vinyl if you're doing it yourself. For me I don't have that option as 3M / Orcal doesn't have translucent CF vinyl. thanks for the tips. yea. translucent wont be my thing. just wanna skin it so its not so obvious and fingerprinty.Otherwise yeah, just work slowly with a squeegee/credit card during aplication to ensure even-ness. Oh and a hair drier on low helps too. BTW, quick note. Translucent anything skins are really a PITA to apply due to the bubbles. Sure screen protectors and the like are enough of a pain to apply but heck, try 15 inches diagonal's worth of metal. But yeah, my own choice of material so my own fault, tough translucent CF is really cool as far as skins go really (it protects and feels awesome and yet you can still see the logo underneath). Normal opaque skins should be a cinch to apply in comparison, as you only really need to worry about even-ness. |

QUOTE(Snappy_Darko @ May 14 2018, 07:41 PM) Sorry, back to the fans again... I can see that there's mesh underneath and also vents around the rear. Where doe the hot air come out? Thinking whether it'll be content running quietly on my lap or in bed on top of soft sheets (as opposed to on a flat surface.. (soz for nit-picky questions the hot air mostly gets pushed out the back vents. the WASD keys are exceptionally cool.. er. dont know about the bottom as ive always got it on my desk atm. will test it later.btw.. ive gotten 4 BSOD's while watching a movie on VLC while on battery power... this is extremely disturbing.. |

QUOTE(jrlogger @ May 15 2018, 09:43 AM) what BSOD error did you get? Sometimes I will have BSODs too, most of the time different errors and it won't restart at the BSOD screen, have to restart self. Never touched the bios yet. No time to see what is the bsod. Just get the error, your computer had an error. Needs to restart. Boop. Then resets. ):I also experienced it even after turning off ThrottleStop, I am starting to think the BSODs are not related to undervolting. |

QUOTE(Prince J @ May 15 2018, 11:43 AM) BSOD can be caused by either software or hardware. We usually test RAM first by using memtest and if the BSOD persists, we will test with another OS. If your machine still gets BSOD after replacing the good RAM and reinstall OS, then it might be due to hardware. is there any way to check the BSOD codes after it flashes on the screen? You may send us the BSOD codes, and we will assist. btw, anyone know where i can get these 90 degree angle usb cables? https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/supe...0205525840.html |

QUOTE(Eiraku @ May 16 2018, 11:52 AM) Errr, close your laptop how? Like closing the lid? That's supposed to put it to sleep automatically unless you've changed the lid down behaviour. didnt mess with the power settings. then opened it up after i put up that post.If you HAVE changed it to "do nothing" when the lid is down, then yeah the battery drain is normal behaviour as your laptop is STILL running as usual even when you close your lid. But if you haven't that just means it's draining while sleeping which is still pretty normal unless it's a ridiculous amount of drain. Only hibernation = quick resume without drain. Sleep still drains a small amount of battery power - small being like 5-10% an hour or something like that. That is, unless I'm mistaken about your situation here, because I'm still not entirely clear about "closing without shutting down/putting to sleep". then i changed it to "shutdown after 30m on battery" thennnn i closed it and put it into my bag. 1 hour later i reach office and open my bag. woah. my pc fans are running. i had furmark open. but its so confusing man. lol this kinda making me miss my mac. |

QUOTE(gunzerdude @ May 17 2018, 03:29 PM) Hey guys, back with some observations, seems like turning off the link state power management in the power profiles did the trick, laptop has been stable since may 9th without any crashes (fingers crossed). links please! On the other hand, due to the sub-optimal port placements, I've purchased a few additional accessories to make my life easier when editing on the go. Right angle USB converters so that the cable doesn't stick directly out to my mouse hand ![]() USB C hub and right angle converter for situations where i need to read SD cards and have multiple drives working. + ![]() All can be found in lazada in case any of you are interested Awesome news for the battery configuration, but I'm abit curious as to why the 1060 is not supported, power draw requirements? |

Anyone else updated their windows? Mine is crashing until it's unusable. Todays report.. reboot and goes straight to bios cause it can't find any hdd attached..
![]() I think I got a lemon... ): Manually restarting it again with the power button gets it into windows again but freezes up and goes into the bios once it crashes again.. Also no memory dump so I have no idea what's going on. This post has been edited by kyLL: May 19 2018, 12:02 PM |

QUOTE(AZIM@ILLEGEAR @ May 19 2018, 02:30 PM) Hi kyLL, this issue could be caused by the latest Windows 10 April 2018 Update actually and it has happened to a few of other users as well. However, the problem was rectified with a Windows rollback. You can also send the machine to us for the procedure and we can perform a full system scan for the hardware while your laptop is here. every day the machine seems more and more unreliable... so hard to work now. ):got my laptop in may.. means the update was preinstalled? QUOTE(Snappy_Darko @ Jul 4 2018, 05:31 PM) try it now? saw the bug on mobile earlier too. after loading up the links it seems better now.QUOTE(Jay Chua CC @ Jul 4 2018, 08:27 PM) Nope. they can pretty much do the stickers for anything (in theory) just need to give them measurements and they will quote accordingly. I did the measurements for my onyx (basically i became the guinea pig) so this supplier has the exact measurements for the onyx and can reproduce the stickers to fit your onyx too. designs are customisable.
