Hood and trunk is padded as well. However, i think your friend isnt wrong, persona is noisy when reving even at 3k range, compare to myvi or bezza, the CVT noise is very apparent whenever you try to overtake. my car is around 1.3 years old, i think is not as quiet as when new, very likely due to that silverstone tyre wearing down.
