Time to claim money back from jibgor No FM now

This year can claim 2500 for lifestyle.

Question to /k tax experts
1. I subscribe to Digi Infinite 150. This is considered internet claim?
2. I got 2 subscription both under my hometown address. 1 streamyx 1 digi infinite. Can claim for both?

EDIT:
Clarified with my accountant friend who went for LHDN training.
LHDN clarified that e-newspaper not applicable.
Mobile data plan applicable.

But amount to be claim should exclude GST

Also, this was shared below.
http://new.digi.com.my/notification/lifestyle-tax-relief
*Tax relief above is applicable for your Digi bill, the purchase of smartphones and tablets under the 2017 budget

Lifestyle tax relief:
(i) Purchase of books journals, magazines, printed newspaper and other similar publications (except banned reading materials) for self, spouse or child;
(ii) Purchase of a personal computer, smartphone or tablet for self, spouse or child;
(iii) Purchase of sports equipment for any sports activity as defined under the Sports Development Act 1997 (excluding motorized two-wheel bicycles) and gym memberships for self, spouse or child; and
(iv) Payment of monthly bill for internet subscription

As long as it's a paid monthly internet subscription, you can claim it.

The Unifi bill is segmented now. You have to take away the HyppTv portion and the phone call portion (if you have).
And the special discount listed in the Unifi bill has to be taken out too.
Just the internet portion, not much to claim.

When inkamtek audit ppl tax filing, they usually go for these kind of relief claims because they expect ppl don't keep the receipts.

Time to claim money back from jibgor.

This year can claim 2500 for lifestyle.
Question to /k tax experts
1. I subscribe to Digi Infinite 150. This is considered internet claim?
2. I got 2 subscription both under my hometown address. 1 streamyx 1 digi infinite. Can claim for both?
*
I just submit my tax, that 2.5k is legit for internet subscription that under your name, so yes, if you have 2 lines,
the Lifestyle includes
> Computer \ Laptop, Smartphone, Tablet for individual use
> Books and magazine
> Internet
> Sport Equipment, Gym membership

You can combine all above as 1 figure then put it in

The safest way is to refer to your actual bill, see if there's breakdown that clearly indicate internet and just claim that portion (if there's other component to the package).

Guys I got a question.

Last year I bought a new laptop (RM3,300) and a new phone (RM999), but lifestyle tax is max RM2,500 only, so I can only put RM2,500 only in the box?

Thanks!

As long as not exceed 2.5k total should be OK. But lets be honest: PC/Books/Internet/Gym/Sports Equipment so many can easily reach 2.5k lah, tak payah touch sampai 3 Mobiles also can.

if you give money to your parent, you can deduct from your income tax as well. but its RM3,000 for both parents. if your brother/sister want to claim you have to split among them la.
QUOTE
Tax Relief for Parental Care

The government is proposing to help individuals undertaking care of elderly and/or infirm parents by means of a new tax relief:

MYR 1,500 for a mother; and
MYR 1,500 for a father.
The relief will be available as a tax deduction for individual resident taxpayers caring for their qualifying parents.  This relief can be shared with other siblings provided that the total relief claimed does not exceed MYR 1,500 for a mother and MYR 1,500 for a father.

To claim this relief, the taxpayer must satisfy all the following conditions:

The taxpayer does not claim expenses related to the medical treatment and care of parents.
The parents are the legitimate natural parents and foster parents in accordance with the law (subject to a maximum of two persons).
The parents are aged 60 years and above.
The parents are tax residents in Malaysia in the current year of assessment.
The parents have an annual income not exceeding MYR 24,000 per annum for each parent.
This is planned to be effective from 1 January 2016 to 31 December 2020.

other relief, you spend to be entitled. those you spent, is gone.

on PRS relief, you save and you get to claim incentive (relief). so what you save is still yours and earning interests for your future.

Nah. When you owe them money (by some means or another), they chase you like along. But when come to refund money, they do their own sweet time "investigating" and ask you for this document, that document.... then after years of "investigation", somehow send letter say "we don't owe you any money".

the 1st one means they must be paying tax as well right? while the 2nd one states their annual income must not exceed rm25k per person...and yet i thought those who earns less than rm25k per year are not taxable?

or am i missing something?
*
The 1st mean devide among you sibling if you got sumbang ibu bapa, lets say u got 4 sibling include you then jz declare 4 in the column, system will devide automatically. your kakak abang will hv to declare the same (4) in that column, else will easily get audit

2nd, It means 25k income and below is tax relief, but u still need to declare, else they will come back to you after 30yrs then denda kao kao, few cases dy, even they chase on dead ppl n their kids cucu cicit need to pay for him

Just input the info, it is not hard to fill in though smile.gif

If you don’t have any income from 1 Jan 2017 to 31 Dec 2017, then yes, put in 0.

If you lost your job somewhere in 2017, just put in what income you made from the dates above.

since it is a join-income. So, I suppose the bill can can from either of you..

i see it like, you total up your income + your wife income, then, when doing tax relief deduction, you also total up all the bills from you and from your wife..

Tax residents is just a term they use, don't have to be actually paying tax.

Just need to be in the country for a specific minimum amount of days to be a tax resident.

You will easily get probed. You need to fill up the ic no of your parents, they can find out if someone exceed the 3k limit per parents

I dont know if pensions is tax free but your parent taxable income must be 24k and below. Usually those who eligible for br1m is having income below 24k. Br1m is managed by lhdn

IRB should be able to detect this since you need to input parents IC and also that of your siblings. Your sibling would also fill in the parents IC in their own filing. Better tell your siblings to to do it right and claim the correct amount, to avoid being targeted by IRB and end up being tax audit and come out with more tax problems. The tiny claim is not worth the risk.

For hired help maybe can get receipt but in this case bank transfer receipt would be enough. Plus this is 3000 per parent, if parent have 5 child have to split to 5. Deswai i think lhdn a bit lenient on this.

Let's say you made some extra contribution outside of salary to EPF. that is included in the rebate.

"Yuran penghantaran anak 6 tahun dan ke bawah ke taman asuhan kanak-kanak / tadika yang berdaftar : Terhad 1,000"

If I have a 4 year old, and the total fee comes to RM2K, I should be able to claim RM1K and my wife can claim another RM1K right?

Please say yes.

Anyone intend to claim mobile fee for internet (lifestyle)? I thought the mobile plan itemized bill will have breakdown between call and data fees but seems it doesn't, so only fixed home internet package can claim but mobile plan even with data cannot? hmm.gif

Want to ask, if I work in 2 company over the year before joining current company whereby:
a. 1 company work for 3 weeks, paid by cheque, no epf/socso deduction, pay RM800
b. 1 company work for 1.5 month, first month have epf/socso deduction pay RM1000 (before deduction), 0.5 month no deduction, pay RM500

How do I do filing?
Is it current company annual pay (as per EA form by HR)+800+1000+500? Or need deduct epf/socso in case b.?

Thank you for the help.

Happened to me last year as it has cross the threshold. Just send an email to LHDN mentioning the issue with EA as prove of income over threshold. They will then let you to proceed with the submission.

Mobile plan still ambiguous. You better call lhdn.

Unifi, you need to be account holder name/billing name to claim.

for internet subscription, does monthly telco mobile data (umobile, celcom, etc) eligible for tax relief?
if so, how to count since it is bundled up together

Reply as below.

Need to clarify on the tax exemption below
Parent
Limited 1,500 for only one mother
Limited 1,500 for only one father

So if me and my brother wants to claim this, as we both contribute to our parents
So each of us can only claim 1500 for both? Or both of us can claim 3000?
Need help!

3000/2 = 1500 per person. Meaning u claim 750 mother 750 father. Sibling claim also 750 mother 750 father.

Given that your parents are both over 60 years old.

This was posted a few pages back.

Hi. I have already completed e-Filing (e-BE), and I have paid the income tax via Public Bank's income tax payment mode.

Should I expect any income tax payment confirmation from LHDN, such as email or something?

Official response from LHDN about Internet subscription is that GST cannot be included in the Lifestyle tax relief. Any doubts, you can write to them.

or you want to apply for 2500 even when you haven't spend that much?

One whole year of unifi payment easily reach the amount, and if u paid online, all bill + payment record already in soft copy. Meaning no need to protect hard copy receipt already....

If I have to pay tax for : RM5000

And zakat's calculation shows that I only have to pay: RM1500

But I ends up paying Lembaga Zakat for RM5000

Do I fill up in the e-filing for zakat rebate as RM1500 or RM5000?

You can put rm5000 into the efilling. They don't care your zakat calculation correct or not.

zakat will just offset the tax...so tax to pay = 0

Sorry to quote myself.

After I did some homework about this, for retrenchment benefit, only above 10K per year, the excess is taxable.

OK, I'm sure most will know that, but how to fill up the efilling?

If your Retrenchment Benefit is not more than 10K per year, You Dont declare it in the Efilling. Because its not taxable.

But for those that have more than 10K per year, the excess need to incl inside the basic salary and that will be taxable.
This one cannot lie one as LHDN will know all the figures since most company will submit the CP22A form.

When fillling up the efilling, ur income shouldn't include the non taxable excess. look at the EA form and you will see that the amount is excluded. just follow the "Jumlah" in Part C of the EA form.

The non taxable retrenchment benefit will be listed in Part F.

Retrenchment benefit bukan ada prosedur lain ke? Your ex company kena inform kat lhdn pasal retrenchment benefit. There is certain clause yg yg boleh waived atau min tax pay.
Better check with lhdn sebab my friend previously has the same isue.

EDIT:
Clarified with my accountant friend who went for LHDN training.
LHDN clarified that e-newspaper not applicable.
Mobile data plan applicable.

But amount to be claim should exclude GST
Also, this was shared below.

One quick question,
last year I signed up for maxis zerolution, which means 158 + iPhone monthly instalment.

Can I use total monthly amount 300++ instead of 158 for tax relief?

Wanna ask, in the case of parents with 3 adult offspring.
1. If only one person files ITR (other 2 do not need to pay income tax) , he can claim all the RM3000 relief, or only RM1000 regardless?

2. If all 3 file ITR, the max relief each can file is RM1k or depends on "negotiation" among the 3 siblings? Like, RM2000, RM800, RM200 respectively?

serious question.

full-time salaried. if i drive uber part-time, do i need to include into income tax?

i haven't tabulate, but assume it's less than 5K for now. haven't minus out fuel, etc yet.

1. for such amount, is it considered purely for BE form? or have to use B form?

2. if B form, is the same tax rate applied on total of salary+profit, or different rate for salary and for profit?

1. yes, and no income
2. if the children are not on talking terms, what happens if the third child claims RM1000 and the first and second children claim RM1500 each as they usually did in the past (both assume the third child does not claim)? Total claim would be RM4000 confused.gif

Defuk. Go talk la, your own siblings.

If still insist not to talk, be safe and claim only 1k for yourself. But you're dead anyway if the other child claim all 3k for himself.

When you enter in system, there is only field to put "how many people are claiming", example 3 child. U can't put any amount. System will auto-divide 3000/3=1000

When LHDN checks u and siblings claim more on your parents quota, pay penalty la.

tongue.gif every family has its own problem, right?

I understand you know about the auto-divide. So, if the third child puts 3 children claiming and the relief becomes Rm1000, and the two older siblings put 2 person claiming, that means they are overclaiming, and not the third child, right?

You can go ahead call LHDN cos im not sure how they pick who will kena penalty. Or every child will kena to be fair. I'm leaning on this one. All kena.

Yes, but you need to minus the cost of doing business - fuel, car loan, maintenance fees etc.

If the amount is more than 0, use the B form. Tax rate is your income + part time profit.

Oops, sorry. I don’t think fuel, maintenance etc is tax deductible for Grab drivers. To be safe, contact Grab to find out which cost of doing business is tax deductible for drivers that are declaring income tax - fuel, road tax, insurance, maintenance, mobile data etc.

Please correct me if I am wrong. As driving Grab is not considered doing a business, can one claim the expenses like fuel and maintenance - and car loan? The logic is, regular wage earners do not get to claim the transportation cost of going to work.

Yes, you can only claim up to RM299 if you indeed overpaid your taxes - govt won’t pay you more since you only paid LHDN that amount laugh.gif however, if your company underpays your PCB, you might have to pay LHDN more money.

Internet subscription - amount must be excluding GST. Since you’re using since May 2017, then you can only claim from May-Dec (8x147). You can also claim handphone purchase, handphone internet bill, books etc under the lifestyle tax.

Edit: there is no place to upload the proof online. You have to keep the receipts. Take pictures of the receipts to be safe as thermal paper receipts nowadays don’t last longer than a year - they can audit you as far back as 7 years ago

i worked for 2 years already. company gave me ea form and pcb. it shows there in pcb rm299 was deducted from my salary for last year.

so does that mean i can only claim up to rm299 ?

i have internet subscription maxis fiber. rm 147 since may 2017. how can i claim them?

i went google but still confused.

i have efiling account. but still confused what i should do. and where can i upload the online bill as proof?

Go LHDN download the guide book and printed BE form. Then just go thru each entry of the BE form. I always do this using it as a rough worksheet. Anything you don’t understand, refer to the Guide Book. After you fill out everything, you will know what you get or need to pay.

Once you are satisfied with your BE form, do the e-filing. Just key in the entries, same thing as in your printed BE form. No need upload anything but keep all receipts

Ok just found this for you guys doing grab. Yea, it’s confirmed deductible smile.gif not car loan though...

But as usual, receipts are needed - physical receipts or pictures of the said receipts.

It's quite unfair for Grab drivers to be able to deduct fuel for tax. Other people also use fuel for work, but can't claim. And there should be a cap to Grab's fuel claim... Some of them may be a part timer but only using 30% of fuel for grab 70% his own leisure

It’s their nature of business. It’s similar to a company, they need to deduct cost of producing a product, then sell the product for profit.

Grab and Uber drivers drive their cars for business, so they should be able to deduct fuel, toll and maintenance from their revenue to get their profit.

How they derive what % of their fuel, I’m not sure how LHDN will calculate - I guess they will use a standard km/l used by the vehicles. If the drivers are stupid, they would agressively put in cost of fuel, and leave very little, or no profit left after driving. Sure kena audit kaw-kaw by LHDN and need to pay 100% penalty for cheating tongue.gif

I mean, why do Grab/Uber if very little/no profit right?

I do hope they calculate kaw kaw to ensure no abuse from Grab and Uber drivers. Knowing malaysians, this will definitely happen to most of the drivers.

Same as normal businesses lah.
My friend collect receipts from me so that he can file that under expenses to pay less taxes for his business.

Some property flippers form companies and buy houses under companies. Everything is expensed under the company's name

Nothing new.

Take pictures of the receipts to be safe as thermal paper receipts nowadays don’t last longer than a year - they can audit you as far back as 7 years ago

if you subscribed to any life insurance and you pay for it via other means (bank transfer, cash, credit card every month) then you are able to claim it there.

Your insurance provider will provide you with a broken down statement that specifies how much you paid for:

a. life insurance (claimable up to rm6000)
b. medical insurance (claimable up to rm3000)

both are different kind of insurance that you can claim.

Please note that several pages back, somebody posted that mobile plan is applicable. But ONLY the $ amount paid for data, calls/others not included.

Since all mobiles are bundles up, this is still 50-50.

For me gym membership alone burst the 2.5k quota already, no point adding my S8 and book purchases.

Simple.. if you dont have a proof, you don't claim. Postpaid can claim because it got monthly bill. Prepaid, show what? Your top up purchase receipt? Even that receipt also don't describe whether it's internet or voice payment..

It’s not. The maintenance was for the upgrade of cimbclicks. Slowly wait for your return lol.

Guys, i have a question.

In my e-Be form, the amount for my LEBIHAN BAYARAN TAHUN TAKSIRAN 2017 (YEAR OF ASSESSMENT 2017 TAX PAID IN EXCESS) is different than the one in E-LEJAR (RINGKASAN BAKI MENGIKUT JENIS LEJAR).

Which would be my actual amount refunded?

Thanking you guys in advance. smile.gif

Yes Negative, I submitted on the 9th March 2018.

My ringkasan baki is much lesser than my lebihan bayaran. Anyone knows why this is the case?
