Not logging in is possible with all devices, get only the free free ones.

It is logging in yhat cant be done with many devices.

Androidtv, can for sure.

As said, i think your problem is a missing browser, experienced it before.

If u chrome or brave installed, u will be able to log in.

Oh let me try later. Wait can we install chrome on the shield? Is there in the store or side apk?

If it is not preinstalled and i think it is not, not in playstore... u get from pc, sideload it.

A browser is required to complete astrogo installation such that it remembers your id and pw - log in just once.

And... if u still get a portrait and not landscape UI, u won't be able to allow phone access which is also required.

In that case, u go to settings, apps, astrogo app, permissiins, give it.

also, as astrogo is not an androidtv approved app, it does not appear at the home UI after installation.

you need to manually find it in settings, apps, open it from there.

or u install from playstore a sideload launcher; with this app, all other apps can be found and opened.

This astrogo app is troublesome for many boxes, won't work at all for some.

It is not like that but just the usual simple installation for boxes that have compatible firmware.

another shield user has said the same (read back 1-2 pages).

despite using adaptive lock/landscape.

i do not know if this is peculiar to shield.

anyway, good at least got it working!

old boxes... no chance.

even new ones.. some can, some cannot.

some say it's root vs unroot.

my exp - that is irrelevant.

a matter of firmware supporting it fully, partially or none.

Fuh all the steps are really cumbersome, I changed the keyboard back to leanback, boom astrogo crashed. Cant even start. There's another alternative keyboard built in that can be used. Gbord also works.

anyways

Lol cannot even use remote to ON the unit after you off it, and the OFF button doest exist has to go through menu and its hidden in ABOUT. bangwall.gif

1. yes, the stock keyboard is the reason why astrogo crash on android tv.
since u r on Oreo u can use the gboard but for Nougat there is no other option, so need to use Leankey as alternative keyboard.

2. Shield is built as always ON device especially for Media/Plex server which to be access anytime or anywhere. Thats y there is no power off option on quick setting except for Shield 2015.
Of course Shield is not perfect but the best so far. smile.gif

btw, new firmware SE 7.1 update coming soon with sideload app support and oreo bugs fix.

p/s: do avoid installing ES Explorer on Shield

You should thanks Nvidia Shield give you power off function.

They is no power off function in my 2 TV Box - Mi Box and Apple TV 4K.

Wonder whose idea TV Box should be always on and in standby mode when not watching.
I prefer power off when not using, what for standby it.

I never let any of my Electrical devices in standby mode (except fridge), I always off it when not using.

I prefer On / Off with remote like my Apple TV

or my MXPro 4K that uses TV usb port to power up. OFF the TV the box will be power Off too.

Apple TV remote is not on off, it is on and standby. It never actual off the Apple TV.

Mi Box also can on and standby using remote just same as Apple TV but not actual off it also.

Both device is only On and Standby and no way to proper off it.

Now I Standby it and later switch off the power but I doubt this is proper off.

That's not the point, my point is 1st time i encounter an instruction for consumer product that you have to unplug the cable to off and plug it again to ON.

Anyone using USB Hub on Nvidia Shield TV 2017? Ugreen or Orico USD3.0 with 4 USB ports (without power) working well? Read in Nvidia forum that some may interrupt the bluetooth function. Appreciate someone can provide feedback.

Because you choose Power Off. When Power off it is totally turn off the device where impossible the remote can turn it on.
That the reason you need to go unplug the cable (where you from, why need unplug, I know certain country don't have on off switch button in power plug but definitely not in Malaysia). In Malaysia we just need to turn off the power plug switch.

If you choose standby then is different story, all electrical devices only able to wake up by remote when in standby mode (Not power off mode).

most STB box, like unifi tv, astro all running with standby/wake up when u press on/off button on remote. because the power consumption maybe to small and faster to show the display.
