Today cleared kastam at 4am and now shipping status according to tracking email. Should arrive today.

Mine initially supposed to get SIRIM but then DHL officer (her name was mimi) said she will help to appeal first then only let me know if still tak lepas. End up now good already. She said media streaming box usually no need but kastam acting kiasu at times.

Wise as long as you are willing to pay the total amount and potential tax for reg upon arrival in Malaysia.. The last one may or may not happen..

just read the whole thread, die liao cannot use myiptv lol, i thought wanna use this to replace my mibox 3 1 haha
*
Myiptv is not the only ehem iptv provider service.. There are other providers and some really good ones that have their own Kodi addon..complete with EPG, VOD etc.. Kodi works great on the Shield.. So.. as the good book says, Seek and ye shall find.. whistling.gif

Guys, I plan to get NVIDIA® SHIELD™ TV Pro but not many seller in Malaysia. It cost around USD300 which is not a small amount.

Appreciate if someone give some comment or feedback as this is my first time getting such devices.

Is it worth it to buy through Amazon for my new apartment and pair it with TIME broadband ?

Read a couple pages back to determine if it's for you.. Don't be lazy.. Read 2 or 3 pages also, you'll know.. As for price.. It's the Rolls-Royce of boxes, so you know what they say.. If you are concerned about the price, then it's not for you. biggrin.gif

I still doing research on either get Nvidia Shield TV  or Nvidia Shield TV Pro since not much difference besides the size of the machine and Pro got additiona 500mb harddisk. My concern is use on Recommended USB Flash Drives (cheaper than built in pro version) for Nvidia Shield TV . Will the flash drive will effect the performance of this machine? Any user can comment on this since the Basic version only have 16gb.
*
Basically, if you'll require additional storage and one that's native to the OS? For games, media, apps, etc.. Especially as a single good game like Asphalt can grow to almost 2GB easy. Also for p2p streaming of large media files.. Then sure go for the Pro version. Else, the standard one is just fine. There's a feature where one can expand the internal memory by having the OS merge a USB disk with the primary storage. This too will work, except you'd have to buy a really good usb3.0 flash drive to get better read and write speeds.

Let me clarify before you jump into conclusion.

I'm asking for advise if because I this is my first time using an android box. In the past, I don't do so. I always go for mainstream and was being suggested why not try a cheaper alternative.

Secondly, price is not the main issue but more on compatibility to use in Malaysia. Sometime, electronic gadgets get lock down just like phones. Not many post on this matter.

rclxms.gif
*
Your first question was to ask if it's worth buying from Amazon... Already discussed in the thread.. Last few pages.
*Reviews and feedback? Again, it's been discussed. Plus I already hinted about it being the best there out there.
*Price? Main issue or not. Irrelevant. You will either cough it up or move on to a cheaper box.
*Compatibility to use in Malaysia? You'd know this if you read even a few pages. Or even browsed anywhere else the Nvidia Shield is talked about.

I'm sorry, but this doesn't clarify anything. It also doesn't suddenly make my previous advice to you any less relevant. So again, read the previous posts and gather knowledge freely given and available. Even more important you read since you say this is your first time. First rule of noobness, is to ALWAYS do some reading on the device first and ask specific questions that SHOW you've actually done some research and are interested. None here is your paid personal assistant that keeps track of your life choices and wants.. doh.gif

I dont know why the word "stupid" appear but isn't it funny that usually stupid ppl comment in a stupid forum particularly on a stupid product ?
*
Of course you wouldn't know.. You see, stupid people who think they are clever, will still insist on their "smarts" even though they are stuck in the hole they themselves created. So now, not only is the box stupid, but people in the forum are and even the forum is stupid too? laugh.gif laugh.gif Son, see the screenshot below. It's only been a few hours and you've already forgotten things you've said.. Oh wait, most of your posts are neither constructive or beneficial to the thread. In fact, they are all over the place.. doh.gif As before.. Enjoy whatever you've been ingesting that impairs your cognitive functions.. Ciao!

Maybe the sentence is not clear in word .. I dont mean the box looks stupid. It is  to me because regardless what box one choose to have also have their own "stupid" issues (cons)
*
Okay.jpg.. Makes more sense. I'm gonna ignore the other post you made about this being a stupid forum bla bla.. You might want to not waltz in a thread, not having the whole picture and begin dissing on members. Anyways, no matter how beasty the box is, there is still no perfect box. Same with cars, houses, boats, etc. It's all about options and making the best of what one has. For now, the Shield is the best and has been since its release and that says something about its devs. So up to you to either buy it or find something else more in line with your usage.

Interesting price offer. Though based off a few reviews, I'm not entirely convinced it's a sure thing. I reckon you could go ahead.

You should thanks Nvidia Shield give you power off function.

They is no power off function in my 2 TV Box - Mi Box and Apple TV 4K.

Wonder whose idea TV Box should be always on and in standby mode when not watching.
I prefer power off when not using, what for standby it.

I never let any of my Electrical devices in standby mode (except fridge), I always off it when not using.
*
QUOTE(Andrewtst @ Sep 3 2018, 11:46 AM)
Because you choose Power Off. When Power off it is totally turn off the device where impossible the remote can turn it on.
That the reason you need to go unplug the cable (where you from, why need unplug, I know certain country don't have on off switch button in power plug but definitely not in Malaysia). In Malaysia we just need to turn off the power plug switch.

If you choose standby then is different story, all electrical devices only able to wake up by remote when in standby mode (Not power off mode).
*
QUOTE(sonypshomer @ Sep 3 2018, 12:45 PM)
Im not confused, i just said this is the first time i encounter an instruction that ask you to ON/OFF by plugin / out cable for consumer product.

Do you understand or not?
*
Relax me Hermanos... This is my experience with Minix boxes.. Cuz you see, dem got users top of dem minds.. With Minix, using the power button is easy. Point at box.. Press and hold to bring up the power menu from anywhere or any action on screen.. You'll be met with 3 options.. Standby, Shutdown (for good), and Reboot. Select and done! Alternatively, just press once to enter standby and press again to wake up from stand-by/sleep mode. Best is that, even while it's shutdown. One can still power it up (perform cold boot) by either pressing the power button on the box's side or pointing the remote and pressing the power button once.. No need to touch plug here and there. Just setup, tuck the box in its corner and forget it's there. All done from the remote.. rclxs0.gif

Kidding.. Nvidia Shield is still the greatest.. notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

i used minix before. new u9-h has IR remote where u can u can power ON using IR remote, then only it boot up the android OS.
plug in power, press on button on IR remote, then it boot up.
for power off, u also can use IR remote on/off button to totally shutdown. ( depend on ur config, u can select sleep instead of power off)

old model like x8-h dont hv this feature, , plug in power, then need to press power on button on the side of the box to boot, since it need android os to boot up 1st, then only able to received the IR.
then if u press on/off button again, it just go to sleep.
for me, nvidia sheild is running android after all. every1 hate waiting for the OS to boot up like windows.
they like press on, then the screen show up.. like how those people like Mac laptops.

but i understand , not every1 have same thinking or requirement.
*
Yep, you used a very old model which can't be used as a reference point today or even 3 years ago. Since then and their subsequent boxes like the Neo U1 and Neo U9-H, they've learnt a fair bit, gained tech prowess and included such easy to use functions. I still use em cuz I don't need the full powers and or limitations of the Nvidia Shield just yet. When I do require such performance, I hope a 3rd more powerful and user friendly Nvidia Shield is released and or more bugs ironed out.. biggrin.gif

Yes, we all have different thinking or requirements, that doesn't mean (as pointed out by sonypshomer) that simple tweaks and tools that would greatly ease customer usage and satisfaction, should be avoided. Just as on a desktop PC, you can't say that always unplugging the power without properly shutting down won't leave negative effects on the Nvidia Shield. It does and in the long run may prove unhealthy to it and shorten it's life span.

Correct me if I am wrong, as long as the box accepts input via remote. It's still consumes power, hence in standby mode.

Minix shutdown still consumes power how little it may be
*
You are not entirely wrong. But it's standby to cold boot and not standby to wake mode.. Those are very distinct differences. So whatever power consumed is very insignificant because at that point, it's only powering the IR Receiver and nothing else, no usb ports, SD card, etc..not even the led light in front of the box.. Nothing else. A major advantage of this is that the box actually and safely shuts down the hard drive, ram etc.. Thereby guaranteeing that there won't be memory loss or corruption, etc as a result of repeated power off while in sleep mode. Other advantages include easy off, sleep or reboot modes.. All from the comfort of one's sofa.

is UNIFI set top box using separate line or speed connection ?
i mean if i'm install unifi APK to Nvidia and using from Nvidia will it affect and take some of my UNIFI speed limit ..?

or

should i just watch UNIFI Hyptv to in origin UNIFI set top box..?

My objective is to minimize hardware in my living room. i just wanna use 1 that can access evrything
*
Use your STB to watch UnifiTV. Pros..
*Significantly better PQ than the apk will ever give.. regardles of device and internet speed it's run on.
*UnifiTV has a dedicated minimum 20Mbps connection. This is on top of your subscribed package and as such doesn't bite into your package speeds at all.
*Easier remote control, EPG, Program reminder, VOD, etc.

So yes, I'd say it's worth it to use it for UnifiTV purposes. Unless you sub to some other premium and much better IPTV service for your Shield.

Bro, thanks for sharing and based on the above certified boxes, only Nvidia and Mibox S can be considered. I have check on Amazon and they have latest offer whereby only USD139.99 for the Shield with remote which looks tempting. However still quite divided as was thinking to upgrade my current 3 years old LED TV to Sharp LC60UA6800X or just grab the high-end Android box.

From your personal point of view, which would you opt to if you are being given above choices?
*
Depends on what you current tv is and if it's pq is acceptable. As explained.. You can't ask to choose between buying a new TV or a media box. ALWAYS go for a great TV first, before considering and external player. Work both into your budget.. But TV's pq and performance is most important.. IMO.

Bro, here's my answer.

.. what exp u have with androids... androidtv, androidbox, android phone, android tablet..?
I'm just a social user on the android phone and have purchase some of the android boxes (include modified my hypp tv box to the ahem version from outside vendor). However I'm not a pro on this techie thingy as occasionally I found those boxes especially China made will have some issues after a while (no WIFI connection or apps stopped working, probably I have accidentally updated certain OS).

.. what r u looking for in an "android"?
Freedom to install apps especially for movies streaming (I'm not into much gaming).

.. what video and audio expectations?
My expectations are on low side as I just need HD streaming for movies. No special requirements on video or audio input/output as I do not owned any high-end entertainment set although I do not rule out may purchase a bundled speaker entertainment set to boost the movie experience in the near future.
*
I suggest you go watch a couple videos of what the Nvidia Shield TV Box is and what it stands for within the media players community. Your above needs don't tally with the typical Shield user. IMO, you will do just fine with a cheaper but still decent box.

Just bought Apple TV 4K for streaming 4k Dolby Atmos contents on my server on my home theather system via plex but this ATV 4K has audio output limitation to PCM and don’t support Dolby Atmos. I have also been converting my BDMV and iso files to mkv so it can be play on plex tru ATV which somehow reduce the quality. It plays 4K content fine just the audio problem that annoys me as always says multi channel in PCM mode.

Come across this Nvidia Shield 4K so would like forum members comment first before buying else end up like my ATV. Does it have any other shortcomings for true home theater use?

I also have been using xiaomi box 3S which works great but limitation is it doesn’t have Ethernet port. Was wondering anyone here use a USB to Ethernet adaptor?

Given I own both 3S and ATV 4K, do u think this nvidia shield is a good buy?
*
Sell both boxes... Buy the Shield.. Slap Kodi on it.. Ditch Plex.. Go raw with Kodi..

How do I do this please and will it fix the issue with Plex streaming buffer and time out? I have shield, installed Kodi, have a laptop full of movies, what do I do next?
*
Ditch Plex, use native network sharing protocols. Get a good fast router if you don't already, this is a must and more importantly, use a fast Ethernet cable throughout. This is just the general idea, for more specific steps, kindly watch a couple relevant YouTube videos on how to share files between your PC and the Shield and or any other supporting device. As long as there aren't any bottlenecks, should be smooth streaming.
