yesterday nite try my new received Nvidia Shield 2017 16GB, after setup, only installed Kodi Krypton 17.6 and Quasar add on. Use Seagate External Hard Drive (Portable Backup Plus Slim USB 3.0) 2GB (NTFS format) as External Storage, when i set Quasar download path to any folder, error stating cannot write, after i check the forum, just find out only can be put into the external Hard Drive Android folder in the Data Subfolder for Kodi. i already set that and allow me to save into Quasar setting. But when i want to download the movie into that path using Quasar, initially the download speed higher and after a while, it keep droppimg until less than 10Kbps (sometimes the download will automatically dissapear). try to download less than 5GB movie, more than 5 GB movie and 80-90 GB movie, all the same. NOt the problem of the movie size or seeds/peers. Plug my Seagate external hard drive to my laptop, try to copy bluray movie from my laptop to the drive, can copy, so my drive is OK. fyi, i did not format my Seagate External Hard Drive as internal storage, still maintain it as external storage. try to format the seagate as internal storage, the problem still the same, download speed will keep dropping until less than 10KN (every time, the download % still maintain at 0% only). anyone know what the problems?

my previous Ubox Android 5.0, yes can save to any path or folder i want in my micro SD card. but this Nvidia shield (Android TV NOugat 7.0) quite restricted. maybe still novice, try to find more info in others forum. i already try to restart the shield few times, still the same. i will try to find more info how to set the path to any path in nvidia shield. on the same times, will try tonight to save it to internal storage (remain 11GB from 16GB).try whether
can download small size movie or not. bought this seagate 2TB, want to try at my ubox, just find out my ubox only support up to 1 TB external storage only. sianz......if really also cannot, worst case just download movie from my laptop to seagate external hard drive using uTorrent, and the play it at Nvidia shield...
anyway what you mean by exit kodi in full and go back in? bcoz i already restarted my nvidia shield few times....

for ubox, it can detected the drive, but when i use quasar to download the movie into that drive, after a while, download speed keep lowering and after that download windows dissapear. then i check the ubox forum external hard drive restriction, it state until 1 TB only. so i also do not understand it, why can detected the drive but cannot write data to that drive.

checking the nvidia shield forum, a lot of ppl complaining of nvidia shield restricted the write access to external hard drive...only on specific folder only...try to find more info whether got workaround on this issue or not...but the problem is, i also try format the my seagate so that it become part of the internal storage in nvidia shield, also quasar cannot download into it...really pening kepala...do not know what format my hard drive was after nvidia shield format, initially NTFS, after nvidia shield format to become internal storage, do not know what format, might be the format not compatible with quasar download...now little bit sianz, if know so many technical issue, might just follow bro AVFan bought Q10 with SATA HD

Don't know about the external drive restriction, but for the standard 16gb Shield, the storage can be increased via USB flash drive or SSD. So far even the 10-11gb is good enough for normal use coz I don't download movies through Kodi and I have less than 10 purchased games. Maybe there is some workaround for the Quasar issue?

Totally frustrated with nvidia shield that i jist bought,problem with the external storage and quasar. Using quasar to download into internal storage, everythings fine, but when set path to external storage,cannot download with speeing decrease problem until below 10k, path mist set inside kodi subfolder in android folder (android tv restriction,each app must only can write to own app folder in android folder). So last try,format and merge my external storage into internal storage (android 7.0 feature, format external become adoptable storage). Try quasar, first movie download, successfully, download second movie speed reducing problem appear again, try to delete torrent from quasar,cannot and kodi/quasar hang..then shutdown nvidia shield and restart again, damn kodi cannot open, totally hang, not only kodi cannot open, all the external app i install manually from playslore also hang (es file explorer, vlc player, mx player). Try again factory reset and set external storage to become adoptable storage,same sympton, can download first movie,sexond cannot and corrupt other app as well. Tey again with kodi installed after i merge the external storage,also same problem (try both kodi install first then format external storage OR install kodi first into internal storage and then format and merge external storage)...
Really frustrating and wanna give up liao, anyone interested on nvidia shield 2017 basic mode 16gb (without game controller) that i bought from amazon, can pm me. My purpose jist purely for quasar so i cannot resolve it,want to give up and eiher buy himedia q10 pro or nvidia shield pro 500gb

anyone manage to install and running RSS player in Nvidia Shield TV 2017. Not found in Playstore but manage to download apk (https://apkpure.com/rss-player/pis.android.rss.rssplayer) and installed it. But not manage to open the app and nvidia shield will mention it stopped working.

Anyone can give some idea why my AOTG 8.1.93 version can't install properly in Nvidia Shield TV which is Android version 7.0? Anyone with other box in Android 7.0 OS install AOTG without issue? I have installed successful once, after exit can never open without crash. Even I clear cache, uninstall and reinstall also doesn't help. I try other 2 previous version of AOTG also the same, please share if you have any idea what's happening.

Guys is anyone getting issues with steaming iptv using shield? I notice with freeflix and mobdro the stream always stops after 5 to 10 minutes, and hdstreamz didn't work at all. Is it better to get an Android box for these? Because they work ok on my Samsung in the same WiFi network at home without any freezing, thoughts?

So just got my box and installed netflix and iflix. Just wondering, what else you guys use? What about local channels etc? Tried Astro on the go and it crashes
The unifi play  tv app also doesn't work well with the box.

iflix is native android tv apps. install from google play.so far ok

astro go, playtv unifi also ok, need side load but i have problem with screen orientation on the menu, but once the content played, its in landscape, only menu on potrait. so far tried few orientation apps didnt work.

Let me clarify before you jump into conclusion.

I'm asking for advise if because I this is my first time using an android box. In the past, I don't do so. I always go for mainstream and was being suggested why not try a cheaper alternative.

Secondly, price is not the main issue but more on compatibility to use in Malaysia. Sometime, electronic gadgets get lock down just like phones. Not many post on this matter.

I might buy the box for the sake of getting without much use out of it.

I know most ppl here use it for streaming or maybe even gaming but I don't have time for that.

So I cant ans your qst too .. For the time being just display it in living room, play with it by on and off.
