Unfortunately there is still no fix for auto frame-rate and colour-space switching.
*
QUOTE(arslow @ May 25 2018, 11:37 PM)
Auto resolution switch also dont have yet right

I guess we have to move to apple tv 4k for those.....sigh

Then for full kodi experience need to get an amlogic device flashed with libreelec....

One device for all doesnt exist....
*
I think I going to skip then. Haha!

Tomorrow going to check out Apple TV 4K.

Resolution does switch automatically. It's just the frame rate & colour-space that needs to be switched manually.
Apple TV 4K can't even do audio passthrough, so no point getting that.

Overall, the Shield is still better than any other box except for this problem.
*
So every box got their own issue.

Anyway I decide get Apple TV 4K box already, hope I can get at shop. Reason I got done movie purchase at iTunes and their movie price is much cheaper, got 4K HDR movie as well, also I still got Mi Box.

I think you can get at all Apple / Machines stores. Good choice, since you use itunes. Also, since its still relatively new maybe it will get better in the future and fix audio passthrough and its other kinks.
Personally I would never be caught stuck with anything within Apple's locked-down ecosystem. Case in point: Steamlink app was blocked by Apple at the last minute, so it can't stream PC games.
I hope there are more choices but at the moment we are stuck with many imperfect ones.

I already buy and I post at another thread. smile.gif

Apple tv is good for streaming apps like netflix hulu etc.  as res/colourspace/frame rate switch works well for them (not 100% sure if atmos works with netflix or not, as only pcm works for mrmc)

Hence why i said we need amlogic libreelec for others as in kodi as yes, apple tv isn't a good choice for local playback smile.gif

So two devices are needed for max media consumption satisfaction...

For now i will stick with shield 2015 and 1080p ecosystem till hdmi 2.1 chain of devices are available
*
Yup very great on streaming Netflix, Movies iTunes, thanks for the no pre-buffer issue and also the auto switch off color space and frame rate.

QUOTE(jdgobio @ May 30 2018, 02:57 PM)
Yup, there are no perfect boxes available and unfortunately this has been the case since the beginning. I was previously using 2 boxes but I am just using the Shield mostly and my Sony Android TV (for Dolby Vision). Just have to see what new boxes come up in the next year.
*

Yup they is no perfect box, actually they is no perfect thing in this world.

how much would the shield end up costing if you buy from US Amazon website? i mean is the price you pay on the website the total price? or do you need to allow some money for extra taxes? and is this the case for any items you order from amazon us website? or is it depend on price? or type of item you order?
*
You need to paid shipping fees and some tax depends on product.

Just open account and try your self then you get the actual price. Amazon let you do final confirmation before actual charging you, you can know total cost before place the final order confirmation.

Lol cannot even use remote to ON the unit after you off it, and the OFF button doest exist has to go through menu and its hidden in ABOUT.  bangwall.gif

So much for world best android box.  mad.gif  tongue.gif

You should thanks Nvidia Shield give you power off function.

They is no power off function in my 2 TV Box - Mi Box and Apple TV 4K.

Wonder whose idea TV Box should be always on and in standby mode when not watching.
I prefer power off when not using, what for standby it.

I never let any of my Electrical devices in standby mode (except fridge), I always off it when not using.

I prefer On / Off with remote like my Apple TV
or my MXPro 4K that uses TV usb port to power up. OFF the TV the box will be power Off too.
*
Apple TV remote is not on off, it is on and standby. It never actual off the Apple TV.

Mi Box also can on and standby using remote just same as Apple TV but not actual off it also.

Both device is only On and Standby and no way to proper off it.

Now I Standby it and later switch off the power but I doubt this is proper off.

That's not the point, my point is 1st time i encounter an instruction for consumer product that you have to unplug the cable to off and plug it again to ON.
*
Because you choose Power Off. When Power off it is totally turn off the device where impossible the remote can turn it on.
That the reason you need to go unplug the cable (where you from, why need unplug, I know certain country don't have on off switch button in power plug but definitely not in Malaysia). In Malaysia we just need to turn off the power plug switch.

If you choose standby then is different story, all electrical devices only able to wake up by remote when in standby mode (Not power off mode).

most STB box, like unifi tv, astro all running with standby/wake up when u press on/off button on remote. because the power consumption maybe to small and faster to show the display.
*
I know this, is another person sonypshomer confuse on this.

sonypshomer go deep inside the system and choose power off and assume later can power on back by remote control. This definitely cannot because it is totally turn of the devices. When using remote to power off, it actually send standby signal to the device ask for sleep instead of completely turn off the device.

I know sonypshomer confuse the differences of actual power off and power off by remote because sonypshomer said later can turn back the Apple TV after "power off" from Apple TV Remote. This can because it is "power off" to standby mode not completely turn off the device.

Actually, most devices incl tv, avr, boxes come power on/off button on remote for standby... consumes very low power.

Then, there are some devices that have a sub option... u can choose 2 types of standby... one for normal, one for quick startup.
Obviously, quick start means it has not powered down much, consumes more standby power.

Lastly, u can unplug or switch off at power panel.

Your mibox... cannot put on any kind of standby... can only unplug, am i right? Now, that is not standard.
*
I know all those. Standard is standby not totally power off.

My Mi Box can Standby. It is very standard.

I just point out why he purposely go deep inside the Nvidia Shield system to total power off it instead of power button at remote to "power off" it which is actually standby it.

Ok, then i think the issue is...

Some people regard standby, red light, very low power used, as power off.

Some people regard no light, total shut down as power off.

Diff is.... maybe 0.1 watt, maybe cost 20 sen amonth.

A waste of time discussing this trivial matter.

Yaya agree. smile.gif

QUOTE(juzmafia @ Sep 3 2018, 03:13 PM)
On all Shield remote there is no 'power' button but there is shortcut to power menu by long press 'back' button and it will show power option to 'sleep or restart'. The shortcut was removed on latest update(SE 7.0.X) but
it will be back in future update(SE 7.1)

To power off shield:-
On Shield 2015/2017, user need to go to 'setting>about>power off'
On Shield 2015, user have another option where there is power button on Shield device to 'wake/sleep/shutdown'

btw, sleep/standby on Shield will only cut off hdmi signal/output. laugh.gif
*
Thanks for the explanation.

Relax me Hermanos... This is my experience with Minix boxes.. Cuz you see, dem got users top of dem minds.. With Minix, using the power button is easy. Point at box.. Press and hold to bring up the power menu from anywhere or any action on screen.. You'll be met with 3 options.. Standby, Shutdown (for good), and Reboot. Select and done! Alternatively, just press once to enter standby and press again to wake up from stand-by/sleep mode. Best is that, even while it's shutdown. One can still power it up (perform cold boot) by either pressing the power button on the box's side or pointing the remote and pressing the power button once.. No need to touch plug here and there. Just setup, tuck the box in its corner and forget it's there. All done from the remote..  rclxs0.gif

Kidding.. Nvidia Shield is still the greatest..  notworthy.gif  notworthy.gif

Yup, it is the best so far in Android TV Box.

Correct me if I am wrong, as long as the box accepts input via remote. It's still consumes power, hence in standby mode.

Minix shutdown still consumes power how little it may be

Yup absolutely correct.

Oh I didnt know Shield have the same limited access to playstore like MiBox...  hmm.gif

I reckon the MiBox would do with some hardware upgrades... its not such a hot devide if we want to do 4k content..

Mi Box is just a cheap version of Nvidia Shield. Both is same but Nvidia Shield came with very capable and powerful hardware where Mi Box a bit under power.

Glad you like it, I didn't own it yet but I know it will be awesome.
Can't find a valid reason to replace my Apple TV 4K box yet. Haha!

I only recommended Nvidia Shield or Apple TV 4K if budget not an issue. Haha!

If you only use them for streaming then not necessary to replace your Apple TV. Only if you watch local content then it is a good choice with all their lossless audio + DV passthrough.
Few months ago Nvidia said they were in talks with Apple to bring their Apple+ to their Shield, if that happens then there isn't much reason to stick with Apple TV box lol.
*
I mostly use for local content and Apple TV 4K did a brilliant job.

Too many people though Apple is more in stream and strict control on local content.

Frank speak this is not the case, Apple had freaking well support on local content.
I had 3000+ local films and 99% most of my 4K HDR collection is REMUX copy and Apple TV 4K never fail me at all.

It support full lossless track by direct playback all track in multi channel PCM format, this is good as you no need to worried your sound system support or not all the format, you just need to ensure your system support multi channel PCM format. This help for DTS-HD as my Soundbar not support it, but due to Apple auto render to Multi-channel PCM, this make me no worried on DTS-HD track.

Ya you do miss the Atmos because now Apple only support Atmos in DD+ but not Atmos in TrueHD but this is not very huge differences as I had personally compare with original 4K UHD blu-ray which run as Atmos, and frank speak it is not very big differences at all.

That the reason I don't find the need of replace it because Apple TV 4K also support Lossless track pass through as well as nearly all type of HDR passthru, this include HDR10, Dolby Vision and also HLG HDR.

You talk on Dolby Vision passthru for local content? Nearly 100% local content is not Dolby Vision but only HDR10 because Dolby Vision unable to remux out, you need a full 4K UHD blu-ray for Dolby Vision and not much people doing this.

Also I find Dolby Vision is not that big differences as well, thanks to LG's own proprietary HDR solution which process HDR signal dynamically frame by frame using enhanced dynamic tone mapping. This process make the normal HDR and Dolby Vision basically no different. I had compare it as well and I can't notice the different. Dolby Vision in LG OLED Cinema mode do far darker than normal HDR Cinema mode which is not my liking, thanks to LG give alternate option where once you change LG OLED of Dolby Vision to Home Cinema instead of Cinema, it is like exactly LG OLED of HDR in Cinema mode.

Now the only issue is I don't have any device capable to smoothly playback the only 8K HDR film I have, it is a documentary call "Wunderkammer: World of Wonder", probably my next TV Box will be need to support 8K HDR playback. Haha!

I will buy the Nvidia Shield if this TV Box can playback 8K HDR film as currently my Apple TV 4K only manage to playback around 12 mins but then it will crash! Haha! My few years ago Core i7 with Nvidia Geforce GTX-970M laptop is playing the film like 5 fps. My LG C9 direct connect the HDD is unplayable, it said format not support. tongue.gif
