- good for video player since im using DS video( synology NAS) + mx player
- able to play Astro on-the-go, unifi TV
- sometimes use chrome for browsing

is nvidia shield can do all those as mentioned? also, since this shield dont hv physical keyboard ( my minix got air mouse with keyboard), u guys will using the D-pad remote to enter the input ? by selecting character on the display ?

You need to be a prime member to get the deal - So minus $12.99 for membership (if you used up trial).

Huh? So high latency @ 200ms++? Is your wireless router okay? Even my Intel based TV Box can stream at 10ms.
*
oh, i didnt know need to be member.

this is geforce now streaming, not gamestream.
all the servers at US. so think 200ms should be fair.

i dont think ur intel based box can access geforce now?

yes, im on unifi 50mbps. no issue if gamestream, only if on geforce, latency quite high

True, as already an owner of Minix UH-9, is there any reason to get the NSTV? I only like their slick interface, but other than that... I won't be using it for games.
*
i hv both devices.
now i only using nvidia shield because i can play lots of free games. biggrin.gif . not boring as ps4
pro
- can play lots of games( gamestream + geforce now= games streaming), local android games
- slick interface
- streaming experience also seem nice
- now running on android oreo, hate the new interface btw, prefer old leanback interface

cons
- dont hv keyboard like minix air mouse
- astro go apps didnt work( sideload), not sure why, later need to check as i also seldom watch
- iflix also didnt detect that im on unifi, so i should get free susbcription. ( iflix is native android TV apps)
- chrome also didnt hv on google play store, need to sideload, hard to use with remote or controller, so i plug in wireless mouse for now. thinking to plug in wireless keyboard also, easier to type.
- NSTV quite expensive, double the price of the minix u9-h, but i think for its services , codec, DRM etcs and premium with the game controller, i think it justified.

so, if u didnt use it for games, better just stick with minix U9-h

The dilemma is the NSTV now cost the same as the Minix lol
Can you use the Minix airmouse with the NSTV?
But yea, won't be using it for games for sure.
*
if NSTV that came with the promo price waived the shipping fee and other fee, then it might be best deal.
yes, can use.
for me, if u want to have best Android TV experience, then its NSTV. for pure android, then its minix

Anything special about Shield Controller? Worth $40 extra compare to basic package?
*
if u play games, then it for sure needed.
and always-on mic on the controller might be good if u like those feature like google Home.

i seldom use the remote, since i do most of the things with controller, the only time when u want to use remote if u want to control it using 1 hand. since controller u need to hold with 2 hand.

*
u can play the games, but still got noticeble lags.
since all the servers is in US. latency around 100-300ms
im playing on unifi 50mbps.

Have u tried FortNite or PubG?  Playable or just too laggy to even get a jiken dinner haha

But shield players will be at disadvantage tho given that you'll be fighting against PC players with keyboard and mouse. Still good for casual gaming.

Can't wait for my unit to arrive next week
*
never tried since PUBG if i remember u need to purchase rite ?

u can connect keyboard n mouse to play with it btw biggrin.gif altho i never tried it before.

i only play some old games on geforcenow like motogp14, sonic, batman, etc.
once running, it will auto set resolution to just 720p only, mybe because of my internet speed (i on unifi 50mbps, but when access to US server, might became slower )

i will try with keyboard + mouse plus those games if free and i will update here later

So just got my box and installed netflix and iflix. Just wondering, what else you guys use? What about local channels etc? Tried Astro on the go and it crashes sweat.gif
The unifi play  tv app also doesn't work well with the box.

Looking for something to watch live TV etc to replace astro. Thanks!
*
im use it mostly for watch streaming movie from my own movie server and games

for astro-go, wat i did last time is install google keyboard and google chrome. after that u can open the apps, enter the login id, then can watch already.

unifi play apps also seem ok , no issue except it show on potrait instead of landscape. both astro-go and unifi tv. tried few orientation apps, didnt work. so i just ignore it since the potrait is on the menu, once streaming, it will show landscape.

Thanks for the reply! Did you replace the android TV launcher with some other launcher?

Can you link me to the unifi play apk that you're using? Might be that the one I'm using isn't suitable. How do you navigate the app btw? Using the remote seems unintuitive sweat.gif can't see where I'm pressing.
*
no, im using stock oreo launcher.
for me its ok, except waste lots of space cos not apps support the 'channel'

i install the unifi apps on my phone, backup it using es file explorer, it will backup as .apk. then use that apk to sideload on ur shield. can navigate using mouse cursor via right stick controller.

Android app such as Iflix, njoi now, playtv@unifi work in this Nvidia Shield 2017? Currently using Minix Neo U1. Time to do some research.
*
iflix is native android tv apps. install from google play.so far ok

astro go, playtv unifi also ok, need side load but i have problem with screen orientation on the menu, but once the content played, its in landscape, only menu on potrait. so far tried few orientation apps didnt work.

im on latest android oreo.

there was a user in this thread (maybe u already read)... he couldn't even get astrogo to work.

maybe something not straight about the firmware... astrogo, orientation app works fine on my sharp androidtv.
*
yes, im talking about nvidia shield. each devices hv diff firmware by each manufacturer, so each apps hv diff experience.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but how to sideload Unifi TV apps into shield ?
*
same as other apps.

find the .apk files on internet or backup from ur phone.
put into nvidia shield using pendrive, run it on shield then it will install it.

Guys, I plan to get NVIDIA® SHIELD™ TV Pro but not many seller in Malaysia. It cost around USD300 which is not a small amount.

Appreciate if someone give some comment or feedback as this is my first time getting such devices.

Is it worth it to buy through Amazon for my new apartment and pair it with TIME broadband ?
*
pro version dont sell any more
got problem with sleep issue on HDD and slow boot etc.

for me, better take normal 2017 is enough, as the price diff can buy u external SSD 120GB, which much cheaper and larger size and much faster read/write than normal HDD.

like mine, i just use 128gb usb3.0 pendrive and set it as internal storage to store games purpose. so far no issue. if u dont games, the internal 16gb is enough for streaming apps.

i think, if u dont hv time for gaming, its good for streaming( netflix, chromecast etc). but of cos to pricy for just streaming device since u can get mi box for that.
but since u hv budget, why not.

yes, if u hv time or unifi much better cos u need those high speed to stream 4k content. ( if ur tv support 4k), else 1080 still require at least 10mbps speed for good buffering

You should thanks Nvidia Shield give you power off function.

They is no power off function in my 2 TV Box - Mi Box and Apple TV 4K.

Wonder whose idea TV Box should be always on and in standby mode when not watching.
I prefer power off when not using, what for standby it.

I never let any of my Electrical devices in standby mode (except fridge), I always off it when not using.
*
most STB box, like unifi tv, astro all running with standby/wake up when u press on/off button on remote. because the power consumption maybe to small and faster to show the display.

Anyone using USB Hub on Nvidia Shield TV 2017? Ugreen or Orico  USD3.0 with  4 USB ports (without power) working well? Read in Nvidia forum that some may interrupt the bluetooth function. Appreciate someone can provide feedback.
*
im using ugreen usb 3 hub for keyboard n mouse. so far ok. didnt notice any lag on remote.

previously when i put mouse receiver at the back usb port, got inteference and mouse lagging.

now its working ok. but i seldom use it btw the keyboard n mouse. last time connect to try the gamestream only.

i used minix before. new u9-h has IR remote where u can u can power ON using IR remote, then only it boot up the android OS.
plug in power, press on button on IR remote, then it boot up.
for power off, u also can use IR remote on/off button to totally shutdown. ( depend on ur config, u can select sleep instead of power off)

old model like x8-h dont hv this feature, , plug in power, then need to press power on button on the side of the box to boot, since it need android os to boot up 1st, then only able to received the IR.
then if u press on/off button again, it just go to sleep.

for me, nvidia sheild is running android after all. every1 hate waiting for the OS to boot up like windows.
they like press on, then the screen show up.. like how those people like Mac laptops.

but i understand , not every1 have same thinking or requirement.
