Hi sifus,

Regarding our folding bike brake and shifter cables on a dahon vitesse:

1) Is it feasible to usemore budget ones like brakco or others, instead of jagwire, without sacrificing much smoothness

2) How many rolls or length are needed for 2 brakes and 1 rear derailleur only

3) What about those yarn braided cables kind..soft feeling ones..are those mainly for looks?

Appreciate some input on this...thx

Yeah Ken,

Seeking some user experience and feedback on the brake/shift cables, wanna exploit lower cost alternatives, as i have no experience in this cables. Jagwires seem very expensive (some affordable , some expensive) and wonder if i actually needed to spend so much on these cables without loosing too much in smoothness. My Dahon seem to come with Jagwires, probably lower entry level cables..

Wow, you are picky with your brake cable. I change my chap ayam cable annually. What you said I really don't bother.

i buy the cheap jagwire for all of my bike. how long didnt remember coz never measure. i got 1 bike using teflon wire, really smooth when pairing with jagwire housing.

got soo many bike, make me to save money and using stock cable with jagwire housing. other than that, i always check my brake after ride. and untill now, never change my brake pad either coz never worn that much. until cleaning and oiling the brake component to ensure in good condition.

Ken,

Haha...actually i am being picky for the color more..but wanna explore cheaper ones which still perform resonably well..

Azam,

The cheaper Jagwires u mentioned, are those in plastic packaging in a roll, instead of some costly ones in a box form? I survey shops and most i see are jagwires in box and very pricy.

i buy loose one.my local shop measure how long i want, then cut it for me. some shop do carry big box jagwire as they sell by loose. no other accessories included. the drawback is only got black color and no color option to choose 😅

another cheaper solution is the plastic pakage. but still u need two set to accomodate the measurement of fd and rd on folding bike. the plasticbundle came with 2m shifter cable, 2m brake cable and some small parts.

the box are premium one and folding bike cant buy that one either coz the same length problem (fd and rd). the box bundle also came with 2m shifter cable, 2m brake cable and some small parts.

for both plastic and box package, the brake housing no problem coz the short routing of front and rear brake.

normal bike got internal cable routing and no fold parts. so the wire are kept in fix length. folding bike need extra long coz the foldable parts.

if u insist to buy either plastic or box package, u need to buy 2 sets of it and u would have extra brake housing cable.

never try ali express. use google translate for buying from taobao. u tought i know mandarin and im malay?nowdays google is your friend maaa..

i will definetely pick shimano crank over the litepro, or at least fsa. like ken said before, litepro is still cap ayam. resale value are sucks!only foldie owners know litepro brand..

if i were u, i'll find old shimano crank. the 5 arms one, and find 130bcd. u can later add on litepro chainring if u wanna go for it. at least, its a good investment over litepro
the rt is lighter than onka, but the rolling smoothness, onka wins. i had onka and still keeping it. i had bought many rt wheelset and experience using it for a while.rt is 24mm and onka is 30mm profile.

30mm is good for all rounder rim, either climbing or flat road.. dont go for high profile like me,.. i buy the highprofile wheelset coz it looks nice.. aero spoke does help u in rolling and wind resistance.
*
Finally gotten my litepro crankset...looks wise thumbs up, weight plus bb, almost 0.5kg lighter overall compared to all needed stuff for my old square taper cranksset. However, drive train got noisier when pedalling harder..Hopefully its just new chainring not wear in yet with existing old chain.
