oh that is good.

haih, the thing i hate about this router is, when you change a setting, it has to REBOOT and it takes 3-5 mins !!  bangwall.gif
*
Hmm? The beta firmware only takes 2 minutes plus/minus 15 seconds to fully boot. confused.gif

For hardcore torrenting better get an enterprise-grade router.

LOL, since when is torrenting considered an enterprise endeavour?

Disabling NAT Boost will increase CPU usage, no?
*
Yes, correct.

Mikrotik RB750GL with and without "NAT boost"

speedtest.tm.com.my 100mbps
ROS 6.41, 400MHz, default config + vlan500 + pppoe
CPU: 25-30% - Fasttrack On
CPU: 75-80% - Fasttrack Off

I disable NAT boost in Archer c1200. Just found out that my old laptop has only 100mbps LAN , not gigabyte. No difference in ethernet speed with it enabled/disabled.

CPU usage seems to hover around 40-50% after disabling NAT boost.  When enabled, it was about 60-70%.

So far day 3 using Archer c1200. My review so far

The things I like
1.  5G wifi connection - significant boost to newer device
2.  seems more stable to handle more clients
3.  wifi signal is much stronger

The things i don't like
1.  Extremely long boot up time - 3 mins !!!
2.  Cannot view real-time CPU/ RAM usage
*
I agree. The wireless signal seems to be stronger. I solve my 5GHz wireless problem via rebooting the router. The router seems to handle heavy usage such as torrenting and downloading files via idm. It has been 3 days im using the router without rebooting and the router works well. Since it is just a beta firmware, perhaps, we can hope for the actual firmware that will be released soon.

Technically, NAT Boost reduces CPU usage.

Theoretically yes
but in practically NO

For torrent part = It allows direct peer to peer connectivity without port forwarding.
For the future = IPv4 is running out, I heard some of lower unifi package (especially 10Mbps) will be NAT-ed soon ~.~
hmm.gif
Double check router IPv6 settings again. Refer to screenshot posted few thread ago. Just to be sure.

Then reboot the router manually.
It will take around 5 - 10 minutes for router to allocate IPv6 address to your devices after pppoe is connected. (Because default AdvValidLifetime* of RADVD is 300 seconds)
*
IPV6 in our ISP Malaysia still under testing, not ready yet, still infant stage
if you use IPV6 you may face problems in term of internet connectivity
Yes IPv4 is running out, but not in Malaysia yet.

Hmm? Fixed 5ghz by simple reboot? Well, if it works....no comment. rclxms.gif
Mine auto-reboot after heavy torrent session after 52 hours or so. Pretty good considering my torrent total connections.

For unifi slow speed of 100Mbps..... maybe it is better to disable NAT Boost in your case. But with TIME 500Mbps.......one gotta leave it on.

IPv4 already ran out in Malaysia. TM already giving out private IP range to streamyx users since year 2012. (At first, 384kbps users, then 512kbps users, next 1Mbps users.....recently 8Mbps users)
We don't have much choice other than IPv6, too bad majority of home CCTV etc don't support IPv6 sad.gif

I've attached ext hdd to my router and the cpu load seems to be normal below 50%. rclxms.gif Good thing is, the router didn't hang, download using idm smoot af, website load quite responsive, the time taken to reboot is less (around 2 minutes) compared with previous firmware which is good, less heat no need cooling fan, wireless cun habis, media sharing awesome. hopefully after they did whitebox & blackbox testing to the firmware, they will release a better one for the consumer based on the result obtained from the testing.

I think slowly we will be IPV6 ready. It is like migration from http to https, takes a few years but eventually widely adopted.

I have complaint 3 times to TM on my unifi wifi issue. They have changed the modem and router. The problem still persist. technician last visit said he change the channel to 11 with 20mhz on 2.4Ghz. Disable 5Ghz.

The wifi still on off. Sometimes internet connected but no internet.
Is this the source of the problem --->TP link AC1200 router.

Any recommendation for better router?

Today I called again the tm helpdesk. ask me on/off modem/router. Refuse to listen to the complaint. Just act like robot. I fxx him and send a complaint email to tm. Really piss

just upgraded to 100mbps.

speedtest local server yes is up to 100 mbps dl/50 mbps ul.

but US and europe server i see is between 30-50 mbps. is sufficient for me for netflix. though what are others on the 100mbps getting for US/europe servers? hmm.gif

didn't test torrent yet, but then again i don't torrent much anyway, but based on the speedtest should be around those speeds.

as for latency local is 3MS thumbup.gif

to US server is the normal 200-250ms o well... still better than those ADSL times 600-1000ms shakehead.gif

games like counter strike, better off playing locally because too latency sensitive. if mmorpg is playable.

See....I knew something is good with the beta firmware, the connection latency seem to be lower with beta firmware compared to previous version.

Hopefully TP-Link will release official firmware soon after testing + quality assurance are done. rclxm9.gif

True....in some areas, TM Exchanges totally screw up IPv6 routing. doh.gif One get IPv6 address, but there is no connectivity.

If you dare....update to the beta firmware according to your router HW version. Do it on your own risk......don't blame me if thing goes south. icon_idea.gif

C1200 hardware specification is quite good, only official stable firmware kinda...... cry.gif

My advise is to read smallnetbuilder for their tips for buying router. Don't overspend because some of the features are just marketing fluff that don't add much value for you

https://www.smallnetbuilder.com/basics/wire...er-2017-edition

https://www.smallnetbuilder.com/wireless/wi...-t-need-mu-mimo

keep it simple
- wired routing (performance, check benchmark)
- wireless (check the performance benchmark, and only get the necessary features that will actually help. snb advises what kinds of performance you can expect based on your networking setup)
- price, pay for whats within your budget. get the best router for that price
- get a router that supports good firmware. i like RT merlin so i got an asus router that he maintains (which also has other asus goodies like qos, nat acceleration, security features better than other brands). Other good alternatives are routers that use Pfsense (also has good features and security). I only recommend either one of these 2 only.

Finally got rid of my dependence on IPv6 and remedied the root cause. Previously, if IPv6 is not working properly my Outlook 2016 will be very slow
updating/syncing with the exchange server due to this issue.

Running the "Prefer IPv4 over IPv6 in prefix policies" has fixed it...

it is obvious that this tplink ac1200 has issues - it is by far the dominant thing being discussed in this and at least 2 other threads.

i used it for 24 hours, was fine for my purposes, did not notice any disconnection or auto-reboot.

but i changed it to an asus, been problem free and max performance since.

my fren's been using it for 4 days now - all ok.

most likely a case of hardware quality control, imo.

tm/unifi is not known for supplying the most reliable high quality hardware!!
