the SIM, in my understanding, is about identifying your subscription to the network. itself is not about selecting which network or band it wants to attach itself to - that's the job of device.
i think prosibu here talks about what happen when we lock ban. both of you are actually is, but from different perspective.
locking band to lte only does means sim are not 3g capable (at the time of lock) are which comes to your point, "when you lock band, you prevent the DEVICE from switching" similarly means sim cannot handover 4g to 3g when need arise.

Good morning Bro. I see it from a different point of view. I strong believe that prosibu knows what he is talking about from his past contributions in regards to the DiGi network.
The other way around, I couldn't quite understand what he was saying.
He might know about Digi network but he has zero knowledge on Volte.
VOLTE = 4g
I lock my network to 4g.
In theory Volte it should work if I lock band to 4g. I don't blame you because you are not engineer. But to believe a forumer blindly is asking for people to shoot you. But since you are so nice to everyone, I will give it a rest.

so chill guys.
Again why need to switch to 3g for Volte? That defeat the purpose of Volte. Why can't you guys talk in more sensible and logical way?

I hear you, Bro. I openly admit that I am not a telco network engineer, but it would be good to further enhance my personal knowledge regarding this matter, since I am also a user.

Whether 3G can be accessed or not has absolutely no bearing on whether VoLTE is available.
@prosibu's post has been a non-sequitur. His explanation didn't say anything about @gogo2's situation.
actually not sure if u all faced this, but sometimes my volte icon disappears after a while even though I'm on 4g. had to airplane mode it to get back the volte. at the same spot.

High-five! 👐
I thought I was the only one or few experiencing this issue and the method you used is exactly how I used to get the VoLTE back on. Glad to know I am not the only one affected.

summary:
if your device AND network can make/receive 4G's VoLTE calls, then great. locking permanent to 4G - or not - is your option.
BUT, if your device OR network does not support VoLTE, AND, you expect to have voice capability, do not prevent the device from stepping down to 3G/2G.

which is why I don't lock it to 4g only even though the phone is capable.
Same happened to me during CNY this year in hometown. Have you complained?
Yup. No feedback yet. Its been 2 3 weeks like this... what bothers me is that 3g is not available at all.. the signal just poof.. even worse than 4g... Lucky my home not affected like this..

Nope. Our device supported Volte. But after locking, it does not support Volte. Comprendre? Is it so hard to understand?
