Three Malaysians arrested with fake credit cards at Bangkok mall

BANGKOK: Three Malaysians were arrested at a Bangkok shopping mall in Pratunam on Monday while allegedly using fake credit cards, police said on Tuesday (Feb 27).

They were captured by security officers in Platinum Shopping Mall at the Pratunam Intersection at the request of the owner of the 8 Street shop, where they allegedly used the fake cards at 5.30pm on Monday.

I wonder how did the police know those are fake cards? hmm.gif

Hi. i dont know if this is suitable thread but i need help/explanation from anyone that understand this kind of situation.

recently, i made a balance transfer from hsbc credit card to maybank credit card.

the balance transfer was successful. my hsbc credit card showed zero balance.

then, i went to hsbc to terminate my credit card. however, i was unsuccessful because it appears that my EPP plan on hsbc credit card still show over 1k in remaining balance.

the customer rep at the bank said i need to settle the balance of EPP plan, then i can terminate the card. while the customer rep on the phone said to call back after 5 working days to cancel the card. they also mention about retail balance, im unsure what that means.

so im confused now. does my balance transfer from hsbc to maybank means nothing? and now i still have to settle all balance on the EPP plan of hsbc card?

or should i just wait for 5 working days, call the cust rep on the phone and see how it goes?

if anyone can explain all this, i really appreciate it. thanks!

you need to do early settlement for the EPP. it's recorded in the system, but not charged to statement yet.

BT is just "payment on behalf" by Maybank. it doesnt know you have active EPP ongoing.

Early settlement - does that mean i need to use my own cash and pay to hsbc?

And my BT doesnt count for anything? I mean, if maybank had paid off my balance at hsbc, hsbc still wants me to settle epp with cash?

Sorry that i ask a lot. Never face this issue before.

i've said earlier, BT amount paid to your cc. the EPP is not in the cc, it's being reserved in the system. you dont see the full EPP amount, right?

since you BT, your hsbc card would have -ve amount (excess), right? This will remain -ve amount as long as no new spending.

once you do early settlement from EPP, the +ve amount will be offset by the excess amount (from BT), right?

the only possible reason you worried if you already used up (spending) the excess amount coming from BT.

my simple view laugh.gif

No Outstanding = RM 0
EPP RM1,200 = RM100 monthly (balance: RM1,100 reserved in the system)
Outstanding = RM 100
Balance Transfer (MBB) = RM -1,200 (payment from maybank)
Outstanding = RM -1,100 (BT RM1,200 - RM100 previous outanding)
{assuming no new spending, your cc should have -ve amount (excess)}
EPP Early Settlement = RM1,100 (bank released the reserved EPP balance amount)
Outstsanding = RM 0

I havent used the hsbc card for a long time. Only keep it active to pay the epp previously.

So lets say i pay for early settlement and cancel my hsbc card, would hsbc reimburse me the BT from maybank.

The payment for maybnk BT has just started in Feb 2018. Fyi, my maybank BT is being paid in installment for 12 months. Does this cause the issue at hsbc?

call hsbc, ask to use the amount still in your cc to early settle the EPP
then proceed with cancellation

Oh my even surcharge? GG. So I’ll assume most store that offer 0% installment can do Maybank since they are the biggest bank here?

Hmm Citibank can do pay first and call later 0% easy payment plan? Or usually those pay and call later have interest for installment hmm 🤔

you cannot just ASSUME maybank is everywhere. it's up to merchant's preference.

for Citibank, call and ask them. find from website. most post-purchase conversio to instalment will have certain % fee. READ from each card/bank's features.
