What's HUC? Is it possible to work in the KLCC office as consultant etc, without going offshore?

Hello there, need some help here

I just accept offer from Petronas to work in one its OPU. Will have my PIPE starting on 3rd Sept and finish 16 Sept. Will need to report duty on 17th Sept.

May I know, will Petronas take care of my transport and accomodation to go to that OPU and stay for the first few days. I ask this because the place is very new to me and dont have any relatives there. And time given between end of PIPE program and reporting duty is relatively short. If everything is being taken care of, so there is no need to worry la.. icon_question.gif  icon_question.gif

And tq for those who reply my question before, I have been offered pstn of exec(process eng). For those who is still waiting for offer letter, u will get it after u do medical check up.
*
1. Arrange ur own transport
2. Normally they allow u to stay at hotel for 3 days for u to settle down. Theres a petronas quarters in kerteh call rantau laut.u can check with ur hr how to stay there.

Welcome to kerteh

Thank you all for kind the kind reply.. I will do the thing suggested to me.

1. Call HR about the accomodation ( although there is one kind fellow who is also going to same place as me already tell me about it )~ just to confirm thumbup.gif
2. Get own transport ( borrow from family) sweat.gif
3. The only thing that worry me now is how to ask for 1 day leave as I will have my convocation day on 22nd of september ( 1st week also want ponteng sweat.gif sweat.gif sweat.gif )

Hello Guys;

I am new to the forum and i would really like to get your support.

I have received a good offer from Petronas Malaysia to work for 3 years; i would like to get more exposure about the following:

- Living expenses in Malaysia (i will be with my wife and 3 kinds).
- Possibility of progressing in the company
- career development and training courses.
- Work load and how this fit with the life style balance.

Any information on the above mention topics will be highly appreciated.

Hi khaledagwa,

1. Before i can answer your 1st question, may i know where are you from? so that i can compare your country and malaysia's cost of living.

2. I believe you have been offered for a contract position. Unfortunate to say there are almost no career progression for contract staff. You will stuck in that position until the end of your contract. Unless you manage to get a better offer, otherwise you will stay at your position as long as the company require your service OR you can move to other department/Unit in the company that can give you a better offer. sweat.gif

Same goes to training. At the moment PETRONAS only provides training to permanent staff only. Reason being is that the company don't want to spend money on contract staff which later they can easily move to other company.

3. Work load wise i would say depending on your position. Ppl involves in project seems to have more hectic work load due to the nature of the project. As for my personal experience, I would say I'm enjoying a work life balance icon_rolleyes.gif

QUOTE(chibimoon @ Apr 23 2012, 11:26 PM)
Hi everyone,

I am a newbie in this forum. I was wondering if anyone can be so kind as to give me some insight about the Finance department at Petronas.  smile.gif

I am having my SI with Petronas this Wednesday for the position in their Finance department. I'm a fresh grad who just finished my ACCA examinations. I have a degree in Accounting and Finance from one of the leading universities in the UK. I'm also an ACCA Affiliate with only 4months of work experience so far  cry.gif

I have tried my best to find some information on the Finance department  at Petronas on this forum and on Google as a whole but to no avail.  icon_question.gif

I got through to the Petronas SI as Petronas advertised to students currently in the UK that they're coming for the recruitment process. As I am a non-Petronas scholar, I wonder if the selection process would be any different than their own scholars.

I would be really grateful if anyone can provide some insight about the Finance department, the pay and benefit schemes for the Finance staff as whole, etc. smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif

p.s : Sorry for the long post!

I went for Petronas interview for the finance executive position yesterday.

1st round: Chit-chat session (I was confident and was prepared for the interview. There were two panels both are senior finance executive with over 20 years of working experience with Petronas. They were nice and humble I was comfortable with the session although at first I was trembling at my voice lool rclxub.gif . They asked me standard questions like my background, education, sports, working experience, bla bla bla. And then when the finance HOD(head of department) came in, and they asked me 'why do you want to work with petronas?' . I noticed the look he gave to their HOD and I was like sweat.gif . I was thinking, what's with the expression? Thank God I was prepared for that question, did some research, and presented my points clearly. In the middle of the session the HOD left. Everything else went well and at the end I asked them what they like most about working with petronas? Both of them look at each other and don't even smile. I knew there's something wrong but hey they stayed for more than 20 years so there must be good reasons too. They didn't answer that question. And I asked them what are their least favourite thing of working with petronas and again they look at each other with a higher degree of negative face expression. I thought it was an inappropriate question and opologized but they said it's fine. They told me the least favourite thing is the stress. And their way of easing it is by sharing their situation with other colleagues. )

And then I went for lunch! I was starving (didn't take my breakfast) tongue.gif When I get home and relaxing I received a phone call from petronas and he asked me about accounting stuffs. I didn't know that there's gonna be a phone technical interview rclxub.gif TOTALLY NOT PREPARED with all the questions.

2nd round: Phone interview (The HOD called me at the same day and asked me about double-entry, tax and corporate finance related questions. I passed double-entry. I failed at tax questions. And I was ok at corporate finance. Geez I was like icon_question.gif !! My brain has been relaxing so much and I was totally not ready with it. And in addition, the HOD told me 'heyyy I left school 16 years ago and I can still remember this stuff! You just left few months!'. What's with the yelling shocking.gif. But I don't blame him for blaming me he's the boss. But I'm concerned with the 'type' he is. And then he asked me about general questions such as who is petronas CEO? what is the height of KLCC? and do you watch F1? I know who's the CEO but I dont know KLCC's height and I dont know anything about F1. And then I told him everything I know about Petronas and at the end manage to impress him with my last answers blush.gif At the end of the conversation, he told me he'll discuss with the others again whether to pass me or not and told me to wait within 2 weeks. And his last words were 'If you didn't get the phone call, you know you have been bluffing enough. hahahahaha.' Wow. Again I was shocked because that's rude language. I sense that if I ever get to work with him that's gonna be a great opportunity but at the same time I'll have to bear with all the inner sickness cool.gif

This morning he called me again asking about my MUET. I don't have that and only tell him about my IELTS result. I thought he already throw my application into the garbage bin yesterday whistling.gif

I think my chance of getting to the next stage is 50-50. Anyhow I'll just prepare myself with all the CASE STUDY and ROLE PLAYING. Knowledge is a gain[COLOR=green] thumbup.gif .

Hey thanks for sharing your interview experience. Are you an experienced worker? i'm a fresh graduate majoring in non technical major. I will be attending their SI this Thursday, the HR personnel informed me that I was shortlisted for SI, not like yours; the chit chat session. I wonder if the chit chat session is included in my SI tomorrow.. perhaps i should figure out how tall is KLCC :-D

Hey buttercup313 I'm a fresh graduate in accounting and finance. SI is my next stage if i pass the chit-chat and phone sessions. The panels said SI (Case study + role playing + CBI) is going to be 'strict'. I translate it as 'very tough' tongue.gif . I think you should contact the HR again whether there's chit-chat session or not. Yea you should prepare yourself with petronas info. You can get the points from their annual reports, facebook, twitter etc. smile.gif You still have time to prepare. I practiced in front of the mirror and drank lots of water lol drool.gif
