You are wrong. The tech allowance will be absorbed into you basic salary. So after 1 year (assuming there is no increment), RM4800 (basic salary including the incorporated tech allowance) + RM 480 (10% EM allowance) = RM5280.

No need to listen to some say, hear say or whatever say. It is after one year in service. Cheers.

So my brother who is coming back from the US as a geophysicist will make RM5000 after one year ... sweet.

If you read the previous post, I don't believe so.

Tier 1 : Geologist/Geophysicist, Reservoir/Petroleum Engineers, Drilling Engineers (Basically SKG09 & SKG10)
Tier 2: Mechanical engineering etc
Tier 3: All others such as HRs/Finance etc.

If like that, I am in tier 3...huhu

After all, technical people are more important to an O&G company. They decide where to drill the well and whatnot. PETRONAS is not an accounting firm or a financial institution.

Even u r in tier 3, still better than other industry. Starting salary for fresh grad is 4k. Not many company offer that kind of salary for starting. Petronas is oil n gas company, that' s why petronas pay more to technical people especially in tier 1. If it is the same, many staff will resign and move other oil n gas company. Even now, people still leave the company.

I am also still figuring this out. From what i know, there is increment about 1-2k from e1 to e2 and more for e2 to e3. E4 and above will get special allowance like car about 1.5k and other allowances. Plus u r entitled first class business travel for E4 and above.

That are the perks when u r promoted. It takes time and often time longer than expected. it is expected to 3-5 years to be e2 and so on. But i meet people are staying in e1 more than 7 years. It is also based on your ACD, where u have to meet certain technical competency critirea in order to be promoted. If u can close all the gap faster in ACD, u get promoted faster.

For me, i see that it is challenging for me to meet all the requirement. I have to find my own time to learn. So it is rezeki.... if u work where all your jobscopes are in ACD is very good. U get promoted faster.

How about in my case where i was offered around rm 5000++ starting salary in a skg10 group. Will I be entitled for the tech allowance after a year service with petronas?

But now drilling is not skg10 anymore. It is move to skg25. I heard it is going to be tier 0 which is above tier which going to get the highest increment compared to all.

Yup. Drilling is now in all new skg25.

Now I'm jealous at my frens who got drilling. I thought reservoir got higher allowance

Getting promoted is not easy as many people think. But now, HR is going to revised promotion garde from 7 grades to 14 grades to ease people to be promoted. Last time you need to achieve 80% of ACD to be E2. With new scale, 50% you can move the next grade.

So, where is skg25? tier?

I wished...if that is possible. Getting hardship allowances (1600 monthly) and offshore allowance (85 per day).

Hmm..I am still wondering, what does drilling engineer do?

I see that most (if not all) of drilling works are done by services companies and drilling contractors. Starting from spudding a well, drilling, wireline, casing, cementing and completion are all done by services company. Even drilling monitoring is done by mudlogging company. Setting TD for a well is decided by geologists. Drilling fluid and solid control are maintained and monitored by mud engineer. Drilling (building, drop and maintain angle) a well technically done directional driller. All dirty and hard works like making up BHA, tripping in/out DP..by rig crews

I don't think fresh grad drilling engineer can be company/night man. They are not competent enough to manage a drilling rig. Becoming a company man requires many years of offshore experiences mainly on drilling operations.
