Which industries are the chill ones?  unsure.gif

I would say it depends on management culture of the company or your team.

Used to work as engineer with a US tech company in SG and got chance to work in 3 out of 4 different product divisions in SG:
- Division A: beyond 8 hrs a day is neither rare nor frequent.
- Division B: beyond 8 hrs a day is rare.
- Division C: pretty often we worked 10-11 hrs for two to three days randomly, out of the 5 days/week, so can't tell which day we will be free after office hour. sweat.gif We had a joke in the division, we don't have the concept of peak season/month, instead each year we have three months of non-peak season when we seldom work after office hour.

From my conversations with those managers, their views about employee working hours are quite different among themselves.

ain’t that great? Save a lot on travelling time and cost. A lot of office work in sg 9-5 is on paper only, most stay back till 7, 8 or 9pm. At least for 12hrs shift, cabut on time, MOM doesn’t allow workers to work >12hrs/day.

Ofcoz its great. Habis shift, nobody will bother you. Bcoz u already handover to next shift.

The best part is, only 7 days morning and 7 days night. U just need to see the bosses around 5 days per month, during weekday morning shift.

2. Does MOM come to check where you live, and make sure that you stay there for at least 6 months (HDB) or 3 months (private apartment)?
This probably does not happen often, but I did have ppl from MOM knocked on my door before, asking if certain ppl still living here or not. Then they asked me to pass a message to the landlord to update some details on who the current residents are.

i) flight not tiring, used to do it weekly for years. uni time before airasia expensive but papa pay. airasia is not expensive. now not sure. can see many familiar faces taking the same flight weekly so you not alone.
I guess this really depends on where you're flying to. for me, flying to KCH, still ok. Airport there accessible somewhat. Flying to KL, I hated this, as it's such a hassle to get to KLIA/2 to PJ and back.

But SG Airport accessibility is quite convenient. I used to take first flight in the morning on a Monday, and go right to office after landing.

Hey guys, i just received a job in the semiconductor industry not production side. I will have a call with hr on monday, what do you guys think is a fair offer? Im a freshie btw. Hoping for something above 4k. And do u guys know if i can apply for work permit before degree confernment with a university letter?
*
the actual conferment at the convocation is just ceremonial. As long as you have a letter from the university stating that you have fulfilled the requirements to get the degree, you're good to go.

But this may depend on the employer as well. I did hear a case from somebody I know that his sister was paid like minimum wage until she actually received that piece of paper from her university. however this is the only case that I have heard of though.

Thanks for going through the many posts and provide a reply on this. Much appreciated. I probably may have been a bit too paranoid on this, as there doesn't seem to be much discussion on this, and landlords doesn't seem too concerned on his either.
