Late in joining the tv box experience and just got a Mi Box S for my parents not long ago. In summary, pretty laggy and wifi connection is pretty moderate.

But this first box has made me interested in getting 1 for myself, may not be Xiaomi. That's why I'd like the feedback from the community here.

I've friends telling me about EVPAD. And I've had friends who tell me about MiniX.

EVPAD 3 max vs MiniX u9-h - what's the difference? and, which is better?

My primary use will be own movies and apps such as iflix, netflix, also probably in future; Hao / myiptv (I don't really watch much tv tongue.gif)

Used to own minix u9h, very satisfied with it except its not netflix certified. Figured that using it only for streaming is a bit of a waste.

Bought a Mibox S then. Sure it's not as snappier as u9h, but have no issue running 4k netflix youtube etc. Highly recommend this box if ur main usage is streaming only. icon_rolleyes.gif

That's what I thought too. Next year I will move into my own place and plan to buy a 4K TV to enjoy 4K contents. I'm a lazy bum, so won't be doing any downloads. Gotta straight stream 4K shows via Netflix and YouTube, I'm also interested in MiBox as it's Netflix certified and pretty affordable. Since it's not rooted, I will assume it can run Astro Go and UniFi TV app.

Now comes the dilemma, my Minix u1 works perfectly but like you said except it's not Netflix certified. I'm wondering if I should buy a smart TV to run 4K Netflix and YouTube while maintaining the Minix for other purposes. Or just buy a normal 4K TV and Mibox but gotta abandon my Minix. Sigh. sad.gif

If for 4K Netflix and YouTube only, I suggest you straight buy 4K HDR smart TV. It is unnecessary change your current TV box.

By the way, now 99.99% 4K HDR TV came with support of Netflix and YouTube in 4K. This thing is already a standard for all new release 4K HDR TV since last year or last two years.

Yeah, because I only watch these two stuffs in 4k. I'm not sure what else out there that has 4k streaming stuff, let's say free legal ones. laugh.gif I only subscribe to Netflix UHD now as I share with three friends. tongue.gif

Sorry to OT a bit, I'm a newbie in TVs, so did you mean I don't even need a Smart TV to run these two apps? Wah, I'm so outdated. If that's the case, I should just buy a normal 4K HDR TV and maintain the Minix U1, correct? This is the best option for me and can save some bucks for better audio. thumbup.gif

Hi. Most new 4K HDR (kindly get with HDR support model) is smart TV. They is very less normal 4K TV for those branded TV.

Below is common OS bundle for 4K HDR TV. As long it is within following OS, then it fulfill your requirement.

- Sony (Google Android TV) - Not all model
- Sharp (Google Android TV) - Not all model
- Samsung (Tizen)
- LG (WebOS)
- Panasonic (MyHomeScreen)

My smart tv already has netflix & youtube 4k but I still bought the mibox, so only 1 remote to be used instead of changing tv mode & remote everytime u need to change app. Astro go works fine, not sure about unifi tv. Using minix neo a3 as my airmouse with mibox.

Wait for the flash deals in lazada, got my mibox for ~RM220 only shipped from china.

No need to think much.. Buy a truly smart UHD HDR TV and you won't need to switch for Netflix and YouTube 4K.. Use the TV for that and everything else on the Minix. Though by then, it's advisable to upgrade to the Neo U9-H or similar box that handles UHD and HDR content better. The Neo U1 doesn't... It's just excellent for 1080p.

I would disagree.. If one's smart tv already does YouTube and Netflix in 4K + HDR, there really is no more actual benefits getting the MiBox as opposed to much better specced and performing devices.

Thanks for the information! Now I got it and will go for Smart TV + Minix U1 route. May upgrade to U9-H if I can find a superb deal by then, otherwise my usual streaming is only 1080p by the way. Only Netflix and YouTube will have 4K, in my case.

Yeah.. It's pretty much what I do. YouTube, Netflix, and a bunch of other can't speak tv apps..use TV apps.. You only have to switch on the TV and their UI tend to be better looking or easier to navigate. At least in my experience with Samsung's TVs. Use external box for Kodi, AOTG, Crunchyroll, etc.. I'm almost done with my hands on/review of the Beelink GT-King. Been using it as a daily driver to get a real feel for it..

I have abandoned Kodi for quite some time, I don't think any worthy add-on these days?

No la. Actually memang next year one, just that everyone expects by end of the year to be completed. It may or not may happen, regardless I can only move in next year.

Just saying I don't like arrogant people and try to challenge me. biggrin.gif

I agree to disagree..my intention was to use only one device & one remote for all my streaming needs..u'll find it useful when ur two year old son is screaming to watch youtube/netflix while u're watching iptv and yet u have to find ur other missing TV remote to change hdmi mode yada yada yada then ur folks visit ur home and find it difficult having to use two remotes etc.

To each his own I guess biggrin.gif

I see.. I still use Kodi for Quasar and local file playback. Though I agree, it's getting harder to find the good stuff. Or I'm just being lazy, due to having gone the premium route.

I know the feels, I'm still using a 1080p TV and seeing better 4K HDR TVs being sold way cheaper than I bought mine hurts. But I too don't see the logic in changing now, when I'll be moving to what may be a more permanent location still undercon. So just waiting till it's done, then reno and upgrade equipments in one shot. If I buy now, still itchy fingers to buy then too cuz of course, there'll be better tech, possibly cheaper too. Hoping OLED TVs get cheaper and the known bugs get worked out.

With Samsung, no need to go switching HDMI modes..I think LG too?. Just push a single button, a menu with pinned apps slide up, choose YouTube and it launches immediately. All these while the previous image kept playing in the background. Also, kids younger than 2 can be trained to be patient and ask politely to watch TV.. No phones or tablets either. It's a luxury, not a given right. Trust me, I already know this. Though I can understand how if they are already a certain way, it's hard to dial it back down or take away as they'll expect it. As for folks visiting, it's easier for them to just operate the TV apps, being Netflix or YouTube or iptv. Yes, my iptv app is a TV app and not on an external device. Comes with EPG, VOD and everything.. Similar to As***. So you see in my case, it's the exact opposite. I'm pretty much the only one who operates the Neo U1 biggrin.gif. Yup, agree to disagree. Just saying I wouldn't advise future folks whom already have or plan to purchase a decent smart TV, to also get the MiBox just for the same or even subpar Netflix and YouTube experience.
