Hi guys, saw on the frontpage that minix u9h is one of the better boxes.
Just curious how well does it perform? Will it lag as it only has 2gb ram?

Planning to use it to install astrogo, hypptv and other apps like netflix,iflix.

Would the minix be the best I can get? Or is there other options?

for normal use as u said those apps, it wont lag.
i never use netflix before, so cant comment on that, but it got the right DRM for the netflix and i read on review , you can watch netflix HD on it.

astro go - cant find on google play store but u can sideload it, working perfect for me
the rest like unifiTV, iflix also working fine.

i never use other china boxes before and im using minix u8-h since 2014, until i upgrade to u9-h last few months.
use it with minix A2 Lite air mouse, its the best experience u can get.

for me, its the best box with firmware support although it quite slow on release, mybe due to few staff@developer working on it.

custom rom also got, last week i flashed it with Android TV os based, but got some minor bugs, well cant blame since its custom rom.

the only cons about minix is the price, mybe due to they hv lots of licence on it, those DRMs, widevine, dolby digital etc


if u want cheaper, mybe can go with mi box

hi all, I have read the first page....I am using MECOOL M8S Pro L. I somehow have problem with AOTG app....each time I try open the app it crash.

I have tried app from multiple different sources and the version of the app is 8.2.1.

I also tried installing Chrome browser (I heard AOTG use chrome for login) but still it crash each time. Anyone using the same box can share your experience?

Firmware version? Yours like the one I reviewed or guym's? Search for our posts.. AOTG works on either. Plus I didn't have to install the Chrome browser either. Can't remember if it shipped with it as default though.

7.1.2.....this firmware version comes with the box. I check for update and there is no update available. I will try search for your post later.

That's the Android OS version.. Not the fw version I seek. Should be in the about section in settings.

Yours is a later fw than the one I tested and should perform better.. Try muncheno's advice as above. But first if you don't have much to lose? Factory reset first and install latest AOTG apk first to see if it'll work.

Thanks, I’ll try factory reset first. Is there any guide to install the magisk “for dummy”? I tried google n found the guide in xda forum but I’m not sure still.

Still finding my 1st android box. Down to x92 3/32 and mecool m8s pro l 3/32 after do some home work. X92 pricier by rm62, but both hardware is identical.
Planned for light usage such ad netflix hd only, AOTG, some tvseries, and sports.

General guide here, you need to have custom recovery before could use magisk.

1) Get TWRP custom recovery for your box, which you have option to run from your box or bootup via sdcard.

To boot up from your box:
Depends on your box come rooted or not the detail steps could varies here.

If your box NOT rooted, try to read more about this first before experiment with it:
XDA recovery cmd via ADB and other customization
There is a sub writeup about flashing recovery. This will work provided you have the right recovery.img ready for your box.

Note:
Almost each box willng have their own specific TWRP custom recovery for each OS version and chipset. While some box can share becoz their partition and Nand memory chip are the same or some twrp created for general.

The Xda recovery method via adb actually have been developed into opensource freeware by the same developer, under the link below, look for Armlogic Flash tool (I recommended this approach in most cases)

The flasher tool, will able get the current recovery from your box and modify into twrp recovery and put back into the box.
It worked for most boxes but some boxes known to fail due limited space in partition and required to modify partition.
I believe meecool should not be a problem, i only read Vims khadas have issue with this method.

In order to work, you need get TWRP img (recovery.img) ready for your box.

To boot recovery SDcard
If you already got the correct twrp recovery.img file for your box. Note that in android 7.x some box doesnot work with this.
You need to rename it as recovery.img
And put in the root directory of the SD memory card.
Power off your box.
Use a pin to press and hold on to reset button while powering up your box. (You need to know where is reset button, some box hide it inside).
You need to hold until you see the TWRP boot page showup, this may take 15-30 or 45 sec depend on the box you have.
If it doesnot work, it either bootup normal ignore your action or hang at boot up logo. In anycase reboot your box will do and try again. You may did it at wrong timing.

2) To flash magisk is relatively peanut, once your have TWRP.
Google magisk and read on xda itself.
Typically if your box not rooted, just flash the magisk.zip file and reboot. Then install magisk manager apk file.

If box rooted, then you can try look for unsu.zip to unroot or in supersu apk there option to unroot. It depends on your luck here, after unroot try magisk step above.
Note: on some box unroot may coz ur box to soft brick, make sure have backup.

Then principal idea of magisk as i could understand, it actual backup your boot img somewhere and create a duplicate of it with rooting modification. Then the manager app takeover to report to your app it is rooted or not depends or your setting.

Additional note, magisk only work with android 5.0 and above.

Yep.. Try that first.. Unfortunately depending on how you look at it.. With custom flashing anything.. It's always better to not just know but fully understand what you are about to flash, its risks, the possible outcomes and also means to recover your device to a usable state, incase of a soft brick. IMO, while it's relatively easy (for folks like moi) to mess around.. Do not begin unless you understand the procedure and always double check you've got the right file and md5 matches. Else, you break it and your money gone. i've done countless flashes and mods across many devices and have only lost one to a hard brick.. A HTC Desire HD.. long ago..Device never recovered..Just dead. So from my experience, 99% success rate.

While I can't speak for the X92, i do know that the Mecool is able to handle your needs.. Especially Netflix @ FHD 1080p. The TV series and sports part, depends on the app and service, almost all boxes can handle such.. Just a matter of PQ and performance.

I try factory reset for the 1st time. Can open the AOTG and when I click login, it launches the pre-installed TV App (Kodi rebrand). I think somehow it try to launch the TV App as browser to login. After all the auto-update done, my AOTG can't open anymore, keep crashing no matter what. Tried uninstalling all updates, no luck.

Then I factory reset for 2nd time. This time I go in Google Play Store and disable auto update right away. Uninstalled the TV App, installed Chrome. This time AOTG login correctly launch chrome for the login applet. However, when I am inside the AOTG app, non of the channel or video loads.....it just keep trying to and trying with the circle spinning indefinitely. meanwhile I try on my iPhone using the same internet connection, all video load instantly in AOTG app right away. I guess I have to try the MAGISK method to hide the root from AOTG. Wish me good luck!
