Say if you have 100,000 to invest. Currently 50,000 is already spread out into the intended portfolio, the remaining 50,000 you wanna topup slowly into the portfolio every month or when opportunity arise.

Is it better to park it in CMF2 or is it better just to put everything in bond such as AHSBF and intra/inter switch it monthly and when opportunity arise?

I understand that there will be platform fee for AHSBF but it comes with a higher return than CMF2. Maybe when the opportunity arise when you wanna do quick topup, intra/inter switch of AHSBF will be slower than CMF2?

Or should I just spread out the remaining 50,000 into the portfolio straight away cos time is money?

Pardon me if it is a dumb question biggrin.gif

Neither Is 'Better' Than The Other
In all fairness, nobody can say for certain whether LSI or DCA is the better investment method. The reason is that adopting both methods in a different period would give different results depending on the prevailing market conditions.
For example, if you made a lump sum investment right when the FBM KLCI bottomed out in end March 2009, there's no way that the DCA method could give you better annualised returns. In a nutshell, it all boils down to market timing and whether you can catch the market's peaks and trenches.

i would say, depends on your intended periodic top up value or % of your this RM 50k.....park the periodic value money in CMF but put the others in AHSBF.....when you had used up the CMF, sold some units of AHSBF and fill up your CMF.

"Or should I just spread out the remaining 50,000 into the portfolio straight away cos time is money?"
depending on the timing and the funds involves......who know how it will goes and for how long the situation would last....

i would first complete buying or fulfill the intended % quota into the portfolio planned regions/sector/country that has the most FSM's Star rating or lowest PE valuation
then do DCA into the portfolio planned regions/sector/country that has the least FSM's Star rating or highest PE valuation.

if you don't have time and unsure as to what to do, and as you mentioned....."time is money",...then go buy "Managed portfolio"......let the FSM people do the timing, allocation. review and rebalancing for you at a 0.5%pa price.......or just RM500 pa for your RM100 000 money.

May has always been considered the seasonal slump of markets.
Hence the popular saying "Sell in May and go away".

Do You Sell In May And Go Away?

There is an old adage that gets a lot of attention at this time of the year - "Sell in May and Go Away".
This strategy typically means for investors to sell their equities in May and get back into the stock market in November so as to avoid the volatile period from May to October.
In this week's Idea of the Week, we present to investors our findings on why they should stay invested in May and for the long-term.

So this is like studying correlation, as long as there is a correlation, the reason why is left for human to figure out.

That seems to only study the primary indices

Maybe the "Sell in May and Go Away" is more accurate with respect to the more volatile and speculative indices such as the small cap index ?

those that go heavy in that sector would have to source for the data and correlation.

anyway for any more volatile and speculative indices such as the small cap index....any month can be more volatile and speculative than other indices thus May and any other months can be inclusive.....

I think Sell in May and go away is based on the generalization that Q1, you have the strong results of last Q4. Q2 is where demand slow down, and Q3 is where companies ramp up to meet seasonal demand in Q4. So you have a slump during mid year of cycle

Haha, you don't have to convince us. There is no hard truth in anything. It is all situational.
If there is one fixed truth, we'd be all making money by following this fixed way.

You don't believe it but there maybe others who believe it and that's why FSM took the trouble to write the article(s).

And for me I pull it out from the net, it is just an effortless posting.
