I got charged 1% when i purchased air ticket from singapore airline. The bank claimed its administrative fee, but administrative fee only applicable for debit card or am i wrong?

When search online, there is a 1% charges when there is conversion involved. When i paid for my ticket it shows in ringgit and I received the sms stating that i paid the exact amount. However when i view it in the statement it is 1% higher than the amount shown in the sms i received.

Not all banks charge 1% Cross Border Fee.
Which bank card you used? Hong Leong Bank, CIMB, Standard Chartered, Bigpay?

Because your dad used a prestigious travel card,
If he used a normal credit card, CIMB would charge 1%.

Update to those interested in Bank Islam Visa Platinum.

Confirmed cb calculation is based on calendar month.

My example:
Last statement: 25/3/2025
26/3 to 9/4 - RM0 spent
10/4 cb for month of March
10/4 to 24/4 - RM375.72 spent
25/4/2025 - statement balance RM375.72
26/4 - 30/4 - RM388.65 spent
1/5 -9/5 - RM599.71 spent

10/5 - cb for month of Apr - RM22.93 = (RM375.72 + 388.65) * 3%

Hi there, looking for a recommendation for credit card.

Annual income : 100k
Existing credit card : Maybank 2 card amex/visa, maybank ikhwan amex, affin duo
Main purpose : Cashback

Currently maxing out all credit card cashbacks
M2Amex - RM 50 (RM 1k spending , 5%)
Maybank Ikhwan Amex - RM 50 (RM 625 spending , 8%)
Affin duo - RM 50 (RM 1666.66 spending , 3%, with statement RM 3050 using BT)

After discovering the wonders of using Spaylater to maximize cashback, have been able to maximize all 3 cashback rewards.

My spendings per month is enough to get max cashback for all 3 cards, but i find that i have extra about RM 500- 1k (Varies every month depending on spending) every month that goes wasted as i cant get anymore cashback.

Can any sifu recommend a card where i can put that extra spending to get cashback?
The spending would be label as online as now i usually put all spendings into Spaylater.

Preferably a card that does not have minimum spending amount to get cashback as may not be able to consistently spend that amount each month eg. RHB Shell (minimum RM 2.5k spending for 5%)

Maybank FCB Barcelona VS

RHB Shell Visa
Top up RM2500 to ShopeePay then use it to pay Duitnow QR merchants or Spaylater.
But for Affin Duo Visa, spend RM1000 enough to get RM30 CB, no need to meet RM3000 monthly statement balance.
You don't have to use RHB-Shell Visa or Affin Duo Visa every month.

Since you have RM 500- 1k (Varies every month depending on spending), why not try apply Bank Islam Visa Platinum

If i top up shopeepay RM 2.5k to pay off spaylater, then it defeats the purpose of using spaylater to use both my Amex cards.
Only reason i use spaylater is so that i can get cashback for my Amex cards as alot of merchants dont accept amex

Affin Duo - what i do right now is my insurance auto debits are all there, total RM 1.7k, then the balance of 1.3k+ i use their 0% Balance transfer to transfer both my amex card to the affin duo card so i can reach RM 3k+ statement. Win-Win situation to maximize cashback without extra spending

Then use RHB Shell Visa to top up ShopeePay RM2500 every 2-3 months. Use ShopeePay to pay Spaylater debt (RM500-1k varying every month).
Eg Month 1 - RM2500, Month 2 - RM0, Month 3 - RM2500, Month 4 - RM0, Month 5 -RM0, Month 6 - RM2500 ...
Just need > 24 transactions to get annual fee waiver (RM195).

Also you can use ShopeePay to pay Duitnow QR merchants (including hawkers and kopitiams), but some Duitnow QR merchants may not allow Spaylater (eg Ecoshop).

iirc, whole thing took close to 1 month. Apparently they tried to contact my company HR via phone to confirm my employment status but nobody picked up.
At the end, I had to request employment confirmation letter via my company HR website, then forwarded that letter to Bank Islam, then Bank Islam confirmed with my HR again via email (there must be better way to do this right? doh.gif )

So it took 3 weeks from the date I submitted application till I receive SMS stating my application was successful. Then close to another week for Bank Islam to send the card to branch for me to collect.

Also cc statement is only available via email now. Can download statement from website and phone app only from July 2025 onwards.

Employment confirmation letter is not the probation confirmation letter, nothing for you to dig back all the way to 15 years ago. sweat.gif
Just get your HR to give you a letter to confirm you are currently working for the company. It is a standard letter that all companies can issue.

Some banks can be quite strict, it is not a standard document.
I had the same issue when I applied for Alliance bank.
