I know how you feel, I saved up for months as a student to be able to afford the pre-order and now I can't even get my hands on it. Now I have to save up for a higher amount because my preorder was void and I can't even get a PS4 Slim or something to replace it for the time being because I can't even get my money back. So in essence, spending nearly Rm4K on a Pro.

But I'm just really salty now, cause everywhere pre-order expect March/April. What's even worse even shops famous in Lowyat like Heavy Arm also say price may change. So no guaranteed RM 1799. I don't really know what to do right now.  I feel it is pointless ordering for March/April when price is not even confirmed and locked.

Rm 1K+ for pre-order, all lost due to seller run away cannot fulfill.
Rm 2k+ by the time can get stock and I am able to save up enough money for the Pro.

So value closer to 4K than 3K.

If I'm desperate enough to get a Slim PS4 while saving up then that's another 1K+.

I wonder whats the real reason for the holdup in stocks other than the fact it's less profitable to sell at MYR1800 now due to high USD-MYR. I mean, sooner or later they still need to fulfill those pre-orders at MYR1800 and set the new SRP. It is as if they are waiting USD-MYR to decrease enough for them to remain the MYR1800 SRP.

If I could guess, it's because a lot of stock went to US and Europe for Black Friday/Christmas sales. Second reason could be, they taken the market strategy for Japan for the rest of Asia as they've been hyping up the Slim and the price decrease over there instead of the Pro.

Make sense. Also, I would get slim too if not for my insecurity issues. Its for a stupid reason called "better safe than sorry". In two, three years time I would most probably question myself - why did I get the pro instead of the slim? I had a vita and i regretted buying it. I just hope they wont fuck up final fantasy vii remake and delay it for PS5 like they did XV for PS3. Anyway sorry for your case with that preorder bro, fuck those people. Nope, no difference. Unlike past consoles (or Nintendo's), there is no region lock. So the only difference is warranty. Which in my 25 years of gaming, never had the chance to claim. Even if my console spoil it's always way past warranty period... 

There is one small difference. I just remembered... the X and O could be swapped. Asia regions usually have O as confirm and Western countries have X as confirm. Small adjustment but some might feel is important as well. There's only one game out of like the thousands that have come out with an issue of X/O, it's Trine 2 on the PS3. The US region has different confirm and cancel but the menus for some reason did not swap the buttons so you could not level up. But I think for PS4 all these issues are mitigated by having the controller inputs based on the game and not on system. There's another game that I was streaming that I was complaining about weird button inputs... can't remember what now. Will remember later.

Just remembered... Dishonored 1 on the PS3 didn't change the button prompt from what was shown on screen if you played the R1 game on an SEA console.

It was why I supported the Pro initially. If it meant getting rid of console generations. Like on the PC you can play most if not all the FF and in the future won't have to buy another console to play the next generation of games, just upgrade the specs. But Sony's not confident with allowing developers make use of the extra hardware without patches and by forcing arbitrary rules about enhancements makes me look towards the Xbox side. On the Xbox One I can play all my games from OG Xbox up until the One and Scorpio. But sadly I feel Sony made a number of missteps towards that future so we will have to see how Microsoft handles mid-gen upgrades.
