Some will say that Manga has taken over comics but quite a few of us still have collections of Americans comics and buying it. Nonetheless, the purpose of this thread is to list out your comics and wish list and I will provide a good online site to do that.

Finally, I'm sure most of you have hundreds or maybe thousand of comics and getting fed up to track the prices for every single one of them.

While getting a Comics database is not free from the internet, I giving you a website which is free to register and list out your comics. It even has online price check. I cannot guarantee it's the best for you but it is free.

I used to collect comics. Mostly Marvel. But due to the rising cost of comics I had to stop.

Still keep some X-Men and Uncanny X-Men around.

Did Planetary stopped running? I really enjoyed the story about a twisted version of the FF, LOL!

Yeah, good times indeed.

I used to collect a lot of comics, but I have now switched to graphic novels and tpb to save time and a bit of money.

For comics I have the infinity gauntlet series, house of m series, a few of the civil war, squadron supreme and various story arcs across the marvel universe.

For DC, not so much but I do have the Jim Lee drawn Superman, Supergirl and errr oh yeah..I cant believe its not the Justice League.

Just recently went on a TPB binge and got myself, Secret War, Secret Wars, Runaway Vol 1 -6 as well as BKV's Pride of Baghdad.

The only DC I have is the Kingdom Come TPB. Alex Ross's art are AWESOME!!!!

For people who still haven't got this book, get it NAO!!!!!!!

Yeah I also have Kingdom Come and I am looking for him to complete his Justice series soon.

ahh... my old hobby. i'm "the Reader".

of my head, my favorites are stormwatch (the ellis story arc), ghostrider (when salvador was drawing), age of apocalypse story arc, etc.

nowadays, i enjoy reading "wira tunggal phoenix" the jilid version and some other HK komiks. more action & style, and no need pretend to write a story to hook the readership. hk komiks also dont have gimmicks (special covers & aniversary issues) nor crossovers

Yeah! I have the his entire run of the Stormwatch series. Awesome stuff. The continuing The Authority series is another great series.

i'm a retired average-joe. but still keep my collection as mint as possible. some collection list:
spawn, spiderman(during the clone saga), batman(knightend saga), creech(the 1st 4 only), some misc issue(like ghost rider,venom and x-men) and a few one shot crossovers. i love to read them again from time to time.

i have to say, reading these kind of comics have better benefit than reading those manggas. at least english comics improved your english .

Most of us retired from comics because of the rising prices or maybe we've grown out of it. A lot of the comic's specialty shops close down after the comic boom in the late 90's. Nowadays, one simple comic's book cost about RM12 and I'm sure a hardcore reader will not only buy one book.

Furthermore, the influx of manga books and those HK translated comics worsen the situation for American and English comics to survive.

I still treasure all those comics I bought during that comic boom era. In my humble opinion, story like Onslaught, AoA or Kingdom Come is still the best compared to stories that come out now.

I've completed my Have and Wish list. It's not that many. I have about 300+ and wish about 50 more to complete my collection.

Thank you every one for your input. Now, if only I knew how to upload those lists here in this forum, I will post it as soon as possible.

If you get the American translated manga's, they will improve your English as well.

oooh , i'm a mixture of 3) 6) and 9) ... i remember making money out of x-23's 1st appearance , so i'm definitely an opportunist. but then, it takes more than just a noob to accurately predict what will sell out and what won't . although , i'm pretty sure that anything to do with the main characters sells. Unfortunately, Marvel seems to have pushed Wolverine too far , and i'm actually a bit sick of him now ...

I thought Runaways is already up to Vol 6 or something.

Just read Civil War TPB and also the Avengers Disassembled (lol i know its been ages).

Im kinda part timer to the reader.

well, i had read few of them, Kingdom Come, Gauntlet of Infinite, Earth X, Universe X (i miss out some volume), Dark Knight Return, Batman: No Mans Land (2 volume only), Battle Chaser (quit it since it failed to be comic as well as manga).

Yikes Runaway HC? You must be a big fan.

with good reason , i guess. Runaways IS a good comic. I was reading (pre Civil War) Runaways , New Avengers , Exiles(which is getting boring with the same old stories) , and the Young Avengers .

as compared to the sucky Astonishing X-Men , which seems to be draggy and boring. In fact, most if not all of the X titles seem to be getting worse. The worst, of course , is the rehashed Wolverine Origins series. A son? wtf

part of the reason, being of course, Quesada's focus on TPBs and 6 book arcs. Of course, that's what brought Marvel out of bankruptcy, so you can't blame them.

EDIT: so hey, since you're all comic book readers, you must have at some point in life gotten poisoned by Heroclix ?

I have seen it. I dint really like the character design which was why I finally opted to start VS System.

Sad to say, the game is dying although it has been the best Marvel/DC game I have played.

I used to collect a lot of comics, Marvel, DC, Image, Etc.

But now stop already, like many of you since the price is so high these days.
Have lots of complete sets like spawn, spiderman, batman, superman, X-men.
Thinking of selling them to someone who really takes care of comics.

As my room is running out of space, too cramped with boxes of comics and toys. Basically my room is like a store room already

sometimes i ordered HC from Amazon coz i found out that most of the cover from Kino & Amazon are totally different
for example Runaways, for TPB, at Kino, they're selling it in small TPB
but from Amazon, they're selling in normal size of TPB
so, might as well i buy it from amazon in HC for US market

Heh I read The Ultimates. The Ultimate storyline is way better than the normal universe. Although I loved Civil War.

Why don't you try buying from Comics Mart in Mid Valley? They have tons of TPBs

Actually, i prefer HC, better & got lots of freebies inside like sketches, notes bla bla bla n one thing for sure, the pages is bigger than comics or TPB
BUT if i can not wait the HC, i will buy the TPB version like The New Avengers, Vol 1-4 now

Hey... Maybe if you guys got some spare time and list out your collection on the website I provided on the first post... I finished mine and after a while the site generates a price increase of 33.7% in my collection. Hehehe.... Cool!! !

Furthermore, you can even generate a 1st appearance of a new character in any comic book report but it is not too detail as the information comes from the members itself.

I understand that most of you are talking about the current storyline and I'm totally at lost with it as I'm retired from buying the new ones but still hugging as tight as I can to the old collection I have.

The price is not only reason I stopped purchasing comics. There was a point in time that drawing in the comics becoming too cartoonish or more manga like which I really do not like so hence the retirement.

I started the hobby a couple of years back. Still collecting but most TPB.

Leinil Francis Yu is one of my fav artist
BUT too bad for him coz he's normally paired with bad writer
so far i bought his artwork in Superman: Birthright written by Mark Waid
lucky for him coz the story is great, i like the storyline done by Mark Waid

others of my fav artist is, Stuart Immonen of Ultimate X-Men
his artwork is superb & lucky for him coz he's paired with BM Bendis, BK Vaughan AND;
Bryan Hitch of The Ultimates, his artwork with Mark Millar story is superbly done
too bad Marvel not interested in doing movie about The Ultimates
IF u read The Ultimates, the panels itself showed exactly what's should appear in a movie
read the book like u watching the film all along

ultimate x-men ? don't get me wrong , i like his work , but all the characters look the same. i'll dig up a few issues and show you what i mean. Professor X , Wolverine and Cyclops look like brothers. I didn't know the X-gene caused everyone to look alike , unlike the "blue" gene in cable/deadpool

i'm not totally digging for artwork but the storyline for sure
just check it out the story written by BM Bendis & BK Vaughan
it's nice & kinda catchy with the storyline like that

my fav writers; Mark Millar, Brian Michael Bendis, Brian K Vaughan, Mark Waid, Alan Moore, Bill Willingham, Brian Azzarello & Warren Ellis

Artwork is something you can look everywhere
BUT comics with great writtings come from great writers

For example, look at Lienil Francis Yu, great artist with superb work
BUT when he's paired with lousy writers, the artwork can't support it
try look at Y: The Last Man
the artwork isn't that great BUT the storyline is catchy n fun to read

sorry , but i replied that in regards to the fact that Immonen was one of your fave artists.

of course there are 2 types of comics i buy. the ones with great storylines , and the ones with great artwork. very rarely do these two mesh.

oh , another fave series was Batman Hush. but the arc immediately after that was sooo dodgy.

IMO, So far Immonen paired with good writer...

I used to be an avid fan so i end buying hundreds (literally) of comics and end up not finished reading some of em. Kingdom Come is just a masterpiece, who thought Spiderman and Batman can be good friends, eh? Try DV8, Gen 13 the first series (2nd if you count the mini-series) and Batman- A long Halloween mini series is still few of the best imho

If u like Alex Ross (best painter in the world, no contest there), try US mini-series. Good story line, and beautiful pictures and u heard about that X mini-series?Earth, Universe and Paradise? really want to know the stories but I stoped buying comics then (thank you GF )

Waid (Kingdom Come) Bendis and Ellis (good work with Hitch on the Authority series AND DV8+Gen13 ) is a good story teller but unfortunately I am more into pretty pictures so if it got good pictures, I will end up buying the comics and reading em.

Just finished Dabel Brothers' excellent adaptation of George RR Martin's The Hedge Knight.

The adaptation of the text is very true to the original and almost nothing is missed. The art is good, but it could've been much better. It's too much like most of the superhero comic books, I wanted something more fantasy-esque. The story obviously wasn't the problem anyway, since it was already great in novella form.

It's GRRM but in a comic book format.

Maybe there would be a Anita Blake fan commenting on the comic ?

anyway, used to be a hardcore comics collector in my heydays, now reduced to occasional buyer/collector, mainly from places like Kino, etc. used to have Punisher, X-Men, Batman, and even have the revamp versions of X-Men under McFarlane. I think I bought about 10 issues before finally calling it a day, and I think I still have them stashed somewhere!

main point here is that I just had my hands on the Civil War TPB, and wow! blown away! really intense, not a load of cosmic mumbo-jumbo that needs re-reading every now and then (case-in-point: Earth X, Universe X, etc + Infinite Crisis) and am looking forward to the next one to be out in TPB, namely the current Capt A series.

all of them are in very good condition, with seals (not airtight) and a hard cover placed behind the comic itself.

You are collecting the early comics mostly from Valiant.

It was a huge interest at one time then fizzles out as fast as the Image bru-haha in the early days.

Maybe the Deathmate would be saleable.

If you havent already picked up any of Brubaker's run, you might be interested in the omnibus that Marvel is releasing in September.

I never fond of Marvel's superheroes comics, even though I have ghost rider and punisher. I usually buy graphic novels mostly from DC or Vertigo, like Preacher, Fable or even Kingdom Come. I also recommend Watchmen. And I can say that I am more into non-superhero type of comic.

Well that depends on your point of view.

If you try to collect all the run thru conventional comic - it gonna costs you a bomb since few of the "HOT" issue costs more. Furthermore, some of the issue you will not possible to get it.

Omnibus is kinda inexpensive and complete issues. I remember there is a Grant Morrison run on New X-Men, about 36+ issues in New X-Men Omnibus which costs around RM300+.

Cheap or expensive? Anyway you will get full series.

Sell it here in lowyat.net of course... You'll never know until you've tried it. If you tried it before still not successful... well... Maybe it's not time yet for you and the comics to be parted...

Err... jchj kinda reminds me not to support sales thread outside the garage thread. Beside... the admins would much prefer creating those thread in there. But... I do not know what they would answer if we were to create a link here directing to the garage sales...

No doubt the cost is always an issue but since the ringgit is going strong now... I thinks it's time the publishers lower their cover price...

I just got the first 4 volumes of Stephen King's The Dark Tower. Super in love with it. I am a big fan of the Dark Tower series and it was pleasure to see it as a comic. I am actually surprised Marvel is the publisher. I really do not like superheroes comic.

do you guys get your comics from DCP ? what do you think the effect is , compared to say music piracy? they call it digital comics preservation , and i for one agree with some of the points , but after downloading comics do you still fork out money to buy the TPB?

assuming some of you actually download comics , seeing they can't be carried around and read in buses, cars, trains, toilets ...

purchased 2 of KLP's comics at Popular Book at IOI Mall
not bad with a stroke of international style but in BM
KLP's Chronos Prophecy in English come with small size of RM25 per piece, 100 pages plus
since i bring not enuff money, bought Fetus in Fetu & Eden Factor
it cost me RM7.90 per piece

Are marvel comics circa 94 -96 (mostly x-men etc including signed and ltd editions) and image comics (early gen 13) worth anything? I've got boxes sitting at home gathering dust...

Has anyone read X-Men First Class by Jeff Parker?

Just finished it, what a great read! I haven't read something that's this much fun in years, and I really like the fact that it's the original X-Men in the starring roles - and Scott & Jean are written the best that I've seen in quite a long time.

Glad could find an active comic thread out here in good ol LYN! actually i was hoping you guys could help me out, I was wondering if we could compile a list of the comic shops in Klang valley or even Malaysia. Wonder where u guys in penang buy ur comics from? Don't tell me everyone buys it from Ebay? anyway...i just started collecting comics about 2 years ago, and i have about 70% of the whole civil war colection..yes..im one of the suckers who enjoy collecting the thin comics(waddaya call em?)...seldom buy TPB or even HC..hahaha
Anyway, the shop i go to is Comics Corner in SS15. The malay guy there is kinda knowledgeable but they seem to always run out fo the good popular comics..serves me right for going there once a month..haha. Iwas hoping to source my comics from other shops..the one in mid valley seldom stock up the thin comics(gee, i really dunno wats it called) and they take a long time to order stuff. SO guys, hope u can help out a buddy here and provide some good reliable comics shop address!

Back then it was owned by a chinese dude (i think he was called Jason if my memory fails me not) and his fiancee. You'll sometimes see his sister (quite hot, or maybe it was just the teenage hormones) and mother there too. The best part was that they'll allow you to be there when they unpacked the goodies from overseas so you'll pretty much get first pick!

You buy comic from penang in Gurney plaza, there's a comic shop called neo mart

has anyone read The Walking Dead , and Fables ? those are two recommended titles to pick up!
