Hisham: We can take on N. Korea
![]() KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has enough allies to fight North Korea if the situation demands it, says Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Tun Hussein (pic). Speaking to reporters at the Parliament lobby on Monday, he said Malaysia has its own advantages and would be able to move forward in a situation such as war with North Korea. “We can’t fight a country like North Korea on our own, which focuses so much on its defence assets. “But we have our advantages which would allow us to move forward … don’t think we are only dependant on our own assets. “That said however, it’s better if we don’t go there," he said. Hishamuddin cited as an example the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, in which 26 countries stepped forward to help with search and rescue operations. “That is our advantage, so don’t worry so much about the assets in our country,” he said. He added that the death of Kim Jong-nam at Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA2) was not as big as many other ongoing international issues. “You need to look at this with a fair viewpoint,” he said. ![]() Jong-nam’s murder has put both countries at loggerheads. Malaysia has expelled North Korea’s ambassador and has recalled its own ambassador from Pyongyang. North Korea has also barred Malaysian citizens from leaving the country, with nine Malaysians still stranded there, while Malaysia has responded with a similar ban on North Koreans here. China's Xi pushes advanced technology for military
BEIJING: China's military needs to promote technological innovation as the "key" to its upgrading and modernisation, President Xi Jinping told military delegates to the annual meeting of parliament. Xi is overseeing a sweeping modernisation of the country's armed forces, the largest in the world, including stealth jet, anti-satellite missiles and advanced submarines, seeking to project power far from its shores. ![]() Science and technology innovation is the "key to military upgrading", Xi told military delegates, state news agency Xinhua said late on Sunday. "Efforts should be made to provide greater science and technology support for the People's Liberation Army," the report paraphrased Xi as saying. "We must have a greater sense of urgency to push for science and technology innovation and advancement with greater determination and efforts." There needs to be improved military and civilian cooperation in training high-quality military personnel, he added. ![]() "Efforts to improve the training system of military personnel should also be strengthened to foster a large number of high-quality military talent." Military reforms have proven controversial though, with Xi saying in 2015 that 300,000 people would be cut from the military's ranks. There have been protests in recent months by demobilised soldiers complaining of a lack of support. ![]() The military is also reeling from a concerted crackdown on deep-seat corruption, part of Xi's broader war against graft in China. Xi told the military delegates that "crushing momentum in fighting corruption has been realised". (Reporting by Ben Blanchard; Editing by Michael Perry) - Reuters ![]() |

QUOTE(TechSuper @ Mar 13 2017, 02:42 PM) A29 all day long. no restrictions, no nothing. only that smart munitions for A29 mostly come from Murica. The new little bird helicopter will be much more better. The Army got it right on the purchase but they need more from what is coming. For light attack they have the Hawk 208 which was the replacement for A4 skyhawk. Damp I love those TUDM skyhawk much more nicer than SG's. |

QUOTE(lordy @ Mar 12 2017, 10:41 AM) Discuss before, seems using Combat-UAV much cheaper and much more long time surveillance like example 10-16 hrs。 C-UAV like Wing Loong cost usd 2-3 million per-set, A29 cost 15 mil. we can get 5 set of it。 enough to monitor semporna /sandakan water, and cost much cheaper to operation。 |

Japan to send largest warship to South China Sea
http://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/category/...outh-china-sea/ TOKYO: Japan plans to dispatch its largest warship on a three-month tour through the South China Sea beginning in May, three sources said, in its biggest show of naval force in the region since World War Two. China claims almost all the disputed waters and its growing military presence has fueled concern in Japan and the West, with the United States holding regular air and naval patrols to ensure freedom of navigation. The Izumo helicopter carrier, commissioned only two years ago, will make stops in Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Indonesia and Sri Lanka before joining the Malabar joint naval exercise with Indian and US naval vessels in the Indian Ocean in July. It will return to Japan in August, the sources said. “The aim is to test the capability of the Izumo by sending it out on an extended mission,” said one of the sources who have knowledge of the plan. “It will train with the US Navy in the South China Sea,” he added, asking not to be identified because he is not authorized to talk to the media. A spokesman for Japan’s Maritime Self Defense Force declined to comment. Taiwan, Malaysia, Vietnam, the Philippines and Brunei also claim parts of the sea which has rich fishing grounds, oil and gas deposits and through which around $5 trillion of global sea-borne trade passes each year. Japan does not have any claim to the waters, but has a separate maritime dispute with China in the East China Sea. Japan wants to invite Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, who has pushed ties with China in recent months as he has criticized the old alliance with the United States, to visit the Izumo when it visits Subic Bay, about 100 km (62 miles) west of Manila, another of the sources said. Japan’s flag-flying operation comes as the United States under President Donald Trump appears to be taking a tougher line with China. Washington has criticized China’s construction of man-made islands and a build-up of military facilities that it worries could be used to restrict free movement. Beijing in January said it had “irrefutable” sovereignty over the disputed islands after the White House vowed to defend “international territories”. The 249 meter-long (816.93 ft) Izumo is as large as Japan’s World War Two-era carriers and can operate up to nine helicopters. It resembles the amphibious assault carriers used by US Marines, but lacks their well deck for launching landing craft and other vessels. Japan in recent years, particularly under Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, has been stretching the limits of its post-war, pacifist constitution. It has designated the Izumo as a destroyer because the constitution forbids the acquisition of offensive weapons. The vessel, nonetheless, allows Japan to project military power well beyond its territory. Based in Yokosuka, near to Tokyo, which is also home to the US Seventh Fleet’s carrier, the Ronald Reagan, the Izumo’s primary mission is anti-submarine warfare. |
