Cambodia reluctant to repay US war debt

cry.gif

Cambodia is insisting that the US should drop a nearly 50-year old war debt.

Hun Sen, the prime minister, says the debt was incurred mostly because of extensive US bombing campaign in Cambodia in the 1960s and 70s.

But the US says Cambodia is in a position to repay it.

Al Jazeera’s Florence Looi reports from Kampong Cham province in Cambodia.

Denmark chooses CAESAR

News Nathan Gain 15th March 2017

2017 has begun well for Nexter Systems which has just signed a second export contract for its CAESAR 155mm self-propelled cannon in the space of a month. Following on the heels of an Indonesian order for 18 additional systems, Denmark will procure 15 CAESARs to replace the 32 M109A3 Paladins in service since 1965. “It is an historic day for the army. Our firepower is back,” Major General Hans Christian Mathiesen, Chief of Staff of the Danish Army, said yesterday.

This contract, whose value was not disclosed, also includes an option for the delivery of six additional systems.

It is actually a double victory for the French systems integrator, as this is also the first export contract for the new “high intensity” version of CAESAR unveiled in September 2015 at DSEI in London.

The variant selected by Denmark is based on an 8×8 Tatra T-815 chassis allowing for a higher load, necessary because its capacity to transport ammunition is practically doubled (30 shells instead of 18 6×6 version). It also offers better protection for the crew, thanks to an armoured cabin offering level 2A or 2B protection. The system can be equipped with a 12.7mm remotely operated turret, an anti-IED system and additional fuel tanks. Weighing in at 30 tonnes, this variant is air-transportable by A400M.

Once in service with the 1st Danish Army Artillery Battalion, these 15 CAESARs will represent the bulk of the country’s strike force as Denmark decided in 2008 to get rid of its 12 M270A1 Multiple rocket launcher systems.

Nexter and its CAESAR, were facing off in the final phase of this competition, launched by Denmark in November 2015, against Elbit Systems offering its ATMOS, and Korea’s Hanwa Techwin with its K9 Thunder.

Someone shot down a $200 drone with a $3M Patriot missile

"That quadcopter that cost 200 bucks from Amazon.com did not stand a chance against a Patriot," said US Army General David Perkins.

We've heard about people shooting down drones buzzing over their property, but this takes things to a whole new level: A store-bought quadcopter drone has been shot down by a Patriot surface-to-air missile.

"That quadcopter that cost 200 bucks from Amazon.com did not stand a chance against a Patriot," said Gen. David G. Perkins, commander of the US Army Training and Doctrine Command, in a speech posted to YouTube on Monday by the US Army and first reported by the BBC.

The missile wasn't fired by the US, but by someone Perkins described as an ally "dealing with an adversary," suggesting it wasn't a test.

Patriot missiles are radar-guided missiles designed to shoot down other missiles, meaning they're suited to small, fast-moving targets like drones. However, Perkins explained that while the Patriot made short work of the quadcopter, it wasn't a very economically sound way of dealing with malicious drones. A single Patriot missile can cost around $3.4 million (roughly £2.7 million or AU$4.4 million).

Describing small unmanned aerial vehicles as a commander's problem rather than an air defense problem, Perkins suggested alternative methods for tackling enemy drones such as electronic warfare and cyber measures. You can see Perkins' talk below, with the relevant section starting about 14 minutes in.

The loiter in demos is because the real thing is too fast and violent, involves much more explosive s

Btw,the no side sweep is a US SOF thing.involves much more syncing between the team.It looks odd when done in such a slow manner

K21 Infantry Fighting Vehicle from Hanwha Defense Systems.

A replacement for the South Korean K200-series infantry fighting vehicles, formerly designated as K300 or XK21 KNIFV (Korea Next-generation Infantry Fighting Vehicle), is currently called the K21. The initial production was set for 2008, with the Republic of Korea Army planning to field approximately 466 units. It is designed to effectively defeat other IFVs as heavily armed and armored as the BMP-3.

The Puma Infantry Fighting Vehicle - Overview and Opinion

The new Puma infantry fighting vehicle was jointly developed by Krauss-Maffei Wegmann and Rheinmetall in Germany to replace the ageing Marder 1 IFVs, that are now over 30 years old. Five pre-production vehicles were delivered in 2004. This new infantry fighting vehicle successfully passed numerous trials and tests. First production Puma IFVs were delivered to the German army in 2015. About 350 of these machines will be delivered. Initially it was planned to purchase 405 new IFVs. However later this number was reduced due to limited funding. Currently it is the largest German army procurement programe. The Puma will gradually replace the Marder IFV.

The Puma is the most protected IFV currently available. It has a welded armor hull with add-on modular armor. It has an option of three various protection levels to suit operational needs. Weight of the vehicle vary from 29.4 to 43 tons accordingly to a protection level.

The base model has a front and flank protection against 30-mm rounds, while vehicle has an all-round protection against 14.5-mm machine gun fire. The most protected variant can be considered as a heavy IFV. Additional armor modules can be fitted, increasing Puma's weight to 43 tons. Furthermore in this configuration it it is even heavier than the T-72 main battle tank. It seems that the most protected variant of the Puma withstands 120- and 125-mm projectiles over the front arc. Vehicle also withstands mine blasts equivalent to 10 kg of TNT. The Puma IFV also features an advanced threat warning system. NBC protection and automatic fire suppressions systems are fitted as standard.

Vehicle is armed with a remotely operated weapon station. It includes a dual-fed Mauser 30-mm cannon. This cannon is already used on the Austrian Ulan and Spanish Pizarro IFVs. It has an effective range of fire of 3 km. The Puma will be armed with an ATGW launcher, however its type is still unknown. Secondary armament consists of a 5.56-mm machine gun and a 76-mm grenade launcher for a close-range defense.
The Puma infantry fighting vehicle has a crew of three, while it can accommodate up to eight infantrymen in the rear compartment. Passengers enter and leave the vehicle via rear power-operated ramp. Vehicle is fitted with an air conditioning.

Vehicle is powered by MTU 892 turbocharged diesel engine, developing a whooping 1 073 horsepower. It is worth mentioning that some of the latest main battle tanks haven't got that much power. This IFV is not amphibious.

could be cn-225 tongue.gif

anyway, I've ride A400M and C-130, and A400M is far more comfortable, quieter, and spacious compared to the old Hercs.

So, preferably, go for A400M, much more comfortable for long distance travel
